ucap did 9 naira last year targetint at 9 to 12

With this mindset, when UCAP touches N9, are you sure you won’t move the goal post to N8? The market has a way of messing with people’s minds.

Own 1-15 good companies, and continue to water them with periodic investments. This is how you invest and build wealth. Results will not be felt now, but in 10-20 years, your dividends will be huge.

This what I have been trying to decide. Pls what do you think.I bought all my ucap BTW. 90k -#1.20.If it get to #20,should I sell hoping to buy more quantity at lower price not that I need the cash. And how about if it doesn't go lower I will feel bad because of the dividend I have been enjoying. MY target is how to increase my quantity
Personally, if I have this average cost (around N1) then I am never buying more at N15.20. I mainly practice averaging down on quality stocks and rarely average up. I would rather sweep the market for potential stock(s) that could do this again.

Thanks a bunch and God bless you, selfless Lady.

Pls o, I'm tempted to jump into STERLNBANK, which sin did they commit that kept them where they are?
Bless you Pastor Vee.
Happy to receive upgrade from you sir. grin

As for Sterling, it was selling around 1.31 or so, not too long ago. Would have been a good time to jump in.

Maybe the sin committed was paying dividend.....lol. Just joking and also saying based on observation of how high it was selling before they started paying dividend but relegated to 1.50 region when dividend started. Lol don't mind me.

If interested, try and see if it goes below 1.50 and pick.
Sterling paid 0.10k dividend last financial year, maybe they'll throw some goodies this year too.
I Blvd it will move at the right time sha.

There is a quiet member of this thread, he comes around to pick our brains. I have known him since 2006 when we both have an account with the defunct UBA Stockbrokers now known as United Capital Securities.

He is a civil servant (road safety officer) his United Capital shares is almost 1.5 million units, not bad for someone who started investing in the stock market in 2002. Meaning he got a dividend of about N2 million from the company in 2022

Definitely when he is due for retirement in 3 years time he has created extra income for himself that will subsidise his pension

Based on your average cost price, your yield on cost is about 120%.

Use you dividends to increase your holdings.

Sell if you think it is over priced, considering the dividend yield and earning growth of United Capital I think it has a fair value of over N22.

My opinion though
Thanks alot.My FV was #20.That was why I mentioned 20.I am thinking I could play smart one and sell at that and buy back below that my FV again. This is my best performing stock

Why sell a stock bought at 90kobo average cost at N20 and then buy back below N20 again? I don't seem to understand this strategy. What could be the reason to buy back again at that price?

20kobo mopping still ongoing.

jideflash:
oh wow, thats a significant stake in the company, should be expecting further mopping of the shares.
is it individual or institutional?
what are you seeing in the company;
concerns= high P.E., Low ROE, no dividends and still negative retained earning?
plus = growing earnings and good equity value. stock is undervalued compared to book value.

Oga just leave that your Fidelity alone for now.......
Fidelity stayed longer at Circa 3, whatever makes you not to sell that time should make you leave it now.

Look for other non-perfoming stocks in your portfolio to sell........just try and check with the Ogas too before selling.
Try and convert FIDELITY and UCAP to your dividend stocks.

No vex say newbie put mouth for your talk o. smiley

My fair value is #20.I was seeking opinion that if it gets to that I should sell hoping it will come back to 13 which it was for long before it moved. This way iI will have more quantity without adding additional cash from another source. Try to play smart and predict the market, lol

All things being equal United Capital should pay a dividend of N1.70k or more for 2022 financial year

The result will be phenomenal if the dividends are reinvested and one was fully invested in the bear market

The greatest lesson I learnt from this thread was the bear market is the best thing for a true investor. I use to see it before as something that should never happen.

I wish I had this type of awareness 15 years ago. Most of our parents wanted us to get educated in certain careers, but not how to manage and grow the money earned. I lived with my uncle who used to buy stocks in the 90s. He never educated me on it. I went on to work in a bank, where I help people buy shares or even cash their dividend warrants, yet I didn't own 1 share in any coy.

I know it is not too late for me, but I wish I started earlier than now.
my father actually made us learn how to invest.....the shares he bought for everyone many years ago opened my eyes about investing in shares. If oceanic bank was still operational our company would have been getting 4m dividends every year. It still pisses me off anytime I think of that bank.

Popsy did well for you, hope you will or have opened investment accounts for your children.

If well managed the fund would have grown by the time the children are through with NYSC

Before now, I detested TA. I only used FA to buy and sell stocks after calculating all the metrics that goes with it. The limitation of this FA strategy is that it cannot be used to determine entry prices (or exit prices) except you use some highlighted by Benjamin Graham in the Book, The Intelligent investor.

However TA gives some levels of entry prices as prices decline or exits as prices rise depending on the tool you are using (trend line shows this easily)

You can try and read up TA terms on investopedia. Open Google, type investopedia and then space and then

- Understanding basic candles.
You don't need to cram. Just brush through. Overtime you will be revisiting these.
-Daily chart definition, trading strategies
- read about time frames
-read about Technical indicators.
-Read about tends and how to identify trends (bullish, sideways or bearish)

As you open each part to read, at the end of each article, you will see others highlight topics for you to read. Or even while reading, you will see some blue underlined on some terms. You could read them up and still understand it. Don't rush, it took me years and everyday I am still learning.

Then watch YouTube videos about indicators and then choose the type of indicator that will be easy for you to use. I will suggest you start with RSI first, then gradually progress to Bollinger Band, then moving averages and then MACD.

Don't ever open Ichimoku cloud. Because if you do, that could be the end of your TA journey. grin grin Ichimoku needs some kind of Japanese term assimilation and that usually puts people off.

Watch lots of videos on each indicators. There are tons on the Internet.

After these, come back and tell me how you have fared. But always start simple and then gradually progress to harder parts.
