married for 9years when we hardly eat, and till date we have never had a problem that last more than 12 ours. We did not just married till life do us apart, our marriage is till life and eternity. 9 years of marriage without pastor, fried or family members to come and settle us. My wife is the woman any man can have. I have the most wonderful family a man can think of

.

I have known my wife for over 10 years now and been in 7 prior failed relationships and these are the things I have learned:
1. The unresolved portions of your past will haunt you if you want a stable married life. Don't do today whatever your husband or wife in the future will not tolerate in the marriage because whatever you do today will tomorrow become a habit that will follow you into your marriage. Don't be the fool that says I will quit pimping, smoking weed or gangbanging when I get married. You won't.
2. Marriage is based on a contract agreed upon by both parties. If you are marrying for money inform your spouse about it. If you are marrying because of big ass inform your spouse about it. The contract of my marriage is based on the Christian faith and my wife agreed to it. So we hold each other accountable based on our Christian faith. Don't be the fool that plunges into a marriage without clearly specifying your dos and don'ts.
3. The choice of your partner and the rules of engagement in your marriage determines its longevity. As a Christian I believe that there is a woman crafted by Jesus to be a fitting helper of a man of purpose. Your purpose as a man decides your direction and the direction of your family while your wife, of all the suitable candidates, will be one that shares the same purpose as you and is a fitting helper. This is my rule for starting a marriage. To sustain my marriage, I have one rule of engagement: "Husbands love your wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it and wives submit to your husbands as unto the LORD". Don't be the purposeless, aimless and directionless fool that chooses a spouse based on transient features that will fizzle away in no time.
4. Your partner is your teacher, your curriculum and your examination. Your partner is human, with strengths and flaws. If you chose right, you will choose a partner whose asset/liability mix matches your asset/liability mix such that the marriage results in at least a net zero surplus. Meaning at the minimum, your liabilities find solutions in your spouse' assets. This requires that you learn your spouse and leverage your spouse to convert your liabilities into assets all the while adhering to your rules of engagement in point 3. Don't be the fool that does not know his/her spouse else you may not be able to tell when your darling angel has morphed into a paranoid psychopath.
5. Accept that you cannot account for all marital variables. No matter how careful you are, no matter how tactical you are, no matter how knowledgeable you are, you will never be able to account for all the variables in life that have detrimental implications for your marriage. So prepare your mind for the unforeseen and decide on your exit strategy but as for me I fall back on my matchmaker, Jesus Christ. Don't be the fool that is unprepared for a surprise. Marriage is full of unexpected surprises.

Couples with thriving marriages, please share your story. Do it for the people who have lost hope in having one
You forgot to define "thriving marriage". I mean Osinachi's marriage was thriving until the point that it cost her her life. So, explain what you mean abeg so we understand what exactly you are asking us of. undecided

Marriage is sweet! This is how it works, make sure you marry someone you love genuinely. Then build your marriage upon trust and commit it to God's hand.

I'm not married yet and actually not thinking of it. Marriage is an institution that is build on trust, peace, understanding, love, harmony, contributive approaches, support, patience and faith. When a marriage lack all these and either sides have tried to mend it, let it go and focus more on your ups.

Marriage is never perfect and it's never easy too.

All I have to say here are my experiences in my marriage. I have been married for five years now with two kids, Girl and boy. What works for me in my home may not work for you.

1. Tolerance is the first thing every man should have in marriage. You see women, your wife, they can dare you to a fault. Especially when your wife knows that you can't physically assault her based on your personal decision not to lay your hands on her, she will push you to the wall. How do I overcome that temptation, I walk out or I pretend as if I'm not hearing her nags by paying 100% attention to my phone.
2. SEX: This is an issue that most women use as a bargaining chip or power over a man especially when she believes you are 100% faithful to her. HOWEVER, if she understands that you get side chick, she will to an extent understand that she doesn't have the monopoly of denying you that. I'm such a man that I'm soft hearted. If I want to deny her money which is my own bargaining power when she denies me sex, I think about how I will feel to see her starved or deny her what she can put to look good, I just give.
3. It's not always good to hand over your finances to a woman to manage. NA LIE, every woman is selfish. If she's not selfish to using the money for her personal needs, she sends it to her family. I no de give my wife wetin I no say if she no gimme account well of how she spent it e go vex me well.

.... To be contd

I totally disagree with u.

Don't use your situation to think others are passing through the same thing u are going through. In fact, the problem with most Nigerians is that, during courtships, most intending couples don't discuss matters that are of concern to their future.

They often don't prepare for the future and that is why, many are in dire need of financial and moral uplifting in their marriage.

In China,an average Chinese don't ever talk about marriage except they are able to acquire an apartment where he and his wife would live, but here in Nigeria, immediately a guy makes 5million naira he runs to marry and spend virtually all that he had acquired just to impress everyone.

That is why u see most marriage crashing on a daily basis.

Another reason is,most men marry liabilities and come back to regret ever making that mistake. I am not perfect, but I remembered asking my wife her financial role if we get married and what we would be investing our money into as time goes on. I also remembered, she once told me,that she would like me to take charge of whatever investment we shall be putting our money in since I was more versed in investment than her.

We discuss a lot that i can't say here.

Many intended couples invest so much time in preparing for wedding than preparing for marriage and the future ahead.

Lastly, before u prepare for marriage, sit down with ur wife to be,discuss money matters with her, don't marry a man or a woman who has no job,no hand work or education. If he or her parents are not rich, pls be careful. Some may be lucky while others may not be.

Note: many homes are enjoying their marriages and I am one of them, with this,i think I have made my points

Good luck.
You have sense.

There are no perfect marriages, anyone who tells you their marriage is best or better is lying to you.
1. Love one another but remember that it takes one person to keep marriage going.
2. Never share your problems publicly or with anyone.
3. Keep your mom, mother or mother in-law or father in-law away from your problems including your pastors unless you tried all and failed.
4. Never carry your anger more few hours.
5. Share the house bills
6. If you have children love them and avoid Nigerian private school syndromes.

Marriage is for the minds ready to settle down. It is not for the fainthearted. It is between 2 opposite sex that loves each other. Marriage is not between 2 people that are infatuated to each other. They are between those that loved themselves from day one and had made up their minds to live together for the rest of their lives. Marriages are full of ups and downs likewise our daily lives. The 2 couples knew they were coming from different backgrounds and must able to tolerate their shortcomings. No marriage is perfect but successful couples worked together to make their union work. They eliminate third parties from their union and they don't stop loving each other despite the fact that they do quarrel once in a while. They don't listen to side talks, they don't share their secrets with their neighbours. They don't also allow pastors to dabble into their relationship. They pray together and they do things together. The man of the house doesn't burden his wife with responsibilities that are naturally theirs. Wives help when their husbands are down financially. They don't hide their income from one another and above all, they acknowledge God as the head of the home. I married 26 years ago and I still love my wife as if we met yesterday
