Can I Survive In Akwa Ibom With 1M Account Balance At 22? by yolada: 8:33am On Jun 07, 2023
Nairalanders please help advice me, this is a matter of life and death I don't want to waste this money cry
Let me just go straight to the point

So I have exactly 1 million naira in my bank account and I'll be 22 by 27th of this month (this is not a flex on anybody please)
I don't currently have a job, I live in Lagos and with my parents. But a lot of things happening here and I feel like if I don't leave soon, I might just die.

I plan to move to Akwa Ibom state to go and start a new life on my own even though I haven't been there before. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life, I don't smoke. I'm still a virgin, never had sex in my entire life,I don't womanise, I have Zero friends.

So my plan is to move to the state, secure a cheap accommodation like a single room self contain that should not cost anything more than 100-120k a year. After I secure accommodation, I plan on searching for a job that can at least pay the bills. And probably set up a POS business with some of the money that someone else can be running for me. I don't eat too much and I know how to cook.

Now my question is this. Will I be able to survive for some time in the state with that amount of money pending till I get a job?
And how much is the average rent for a single room self contain in akwa Ibom?

I'm not from Akwa Ibom state ohh cry which other business do you suggest? Why not POS? That's the easiest I know to start up that is not capital intensive. Although I'm also considering buying a used bike for someone to ride for me and pay me weekly cry

Are you planning to run away with your parents #1M to far South Akwa Ibom?

If you earned that money genuinely (which I doubt), why not continue the business you did to earn that money here in Lagos or start same business in Akwa Ibom ?

Why not upskill yourself before leaving Lagos? Acquire soft skills or technical skills that will help you in Akwa Ibom.

Why Akwa Ibom ?

You want to #JAPA ? You need to come clean so that we can advise appropriately.

I'm not planning to run away with anyone's money. This is money I saved up from my school fee's before I dropped out. I was going to a private University. So can you go ahead with the advice now🙄?

Okay good.. If you want to stay in the heart of the town, then neither of those business will work, POS na competition for here, and bikes dont really operate in uyo..
And if it is safety you are after, avoid any place close to Ibom plaza, Urua ekpa and ikpa road..
Go for places like Oron road, Aka road, IBB, Atiku..

I wont suggest a business for you but nt too sure of that POS and bike business.

Are your parents aware that you have dropped out and didn't pay the fees in full while still in the school?

Isn't that the same stealing he said .. and why on earth would you drop out?

Thank God you brought the matter here . please just take that money and go and finish school first.. then you can relocate with another money...

The school you did not finish is reflecting in your business ideas, POS, Okada ...

Go back and finish school it shall be well with you..you would hate yourself if the money finishes and you are stranded..but with a degree you can at least get a decent job..or research and build a decent biz

This is definitely not the kind of advice you want but please take it . Leaving your parents house with #1m saved up from school fees will not bring any positive future but doom . With the kind of business ideas you have in mind, that money is I’ll not last 6months (bills go kill am. Especially the bike business “DO NOT TRY IT “)

This is my advice “TAKE IT EASY WITH YOUR PARENTS AND SAVE MORE AND LEARN A SKILL YOU FIND INTERESTING” Any skill will do. The fact that you dropped out of a private University is a big deal for your parent already . For them to send you to a private uni !!! Broh, na big love ooo I understand that some parents do too much but trust me , you can earn that respect by fixing yourself .

Apply for a short t course technical skill here in Lagos out of that money and see how they’ll change towards you at home. If they don’t , then continue saving and learning till you have more money . Relocating to a state you never lived is not child’s play ooo .. reason am well .

Avoid Ukanafun, Ika, Etim ekpo, Nsit ibritam
Infact consider only Uyo, Ikot ekpene, Abak, Etinan.
For a 22 year old,I hope U don't look childish too, else they'll chance u.

Guy, that money will finish cos you obviously siphoned that money off your parents or relatives, if you legit earned that money with your skill/work, it's obvious that the normal cause of action is to relocate to a similar environment and continue your legit hustle, anyway go and learn a trade or digital skills that you love.

You need to first fu...ck yourself real good and hard until you come to the realization that transference won't solve your issues.

You reflected stu.pidity by dropping out of school and intending to flee home with no skill because you think N1m is a huge sum but it is said "a fool and his money are soon parted".

The foolish thing is the one who dropped out of school and diverting school fees without the parents' knowledge nor their input in your redirection, thinking fleeing to Akwa ibom with no situational awareness nor skill but still convinces himself that he is on his path to greatness......by the way, your likes are part of my daily bread.

A married man survived on less than 95k, how can't you survive on 1m, with a good business, you should survive
Of a truth, its not easy to manage such amount, but when one is already in such situation, you just have to manage and improvise.
Now like the OP of the above thread requested, here is the break down of how we make our expenses.

To start with, I was earning about 130k previously before we got married by March this year, but I changed job and the pay of the new job is 95k. STarted the new job around Feb this year, even though there was a loan I was paying off.. Need I add that my wife was working in a firm where shes paid 45K, but two months after our married, she quit the job due to pregnancy stress. Am sure ladies will understand.

This is our break down.
Monthly salary 95k
I remove 40k first from the salary and transfer it to 3 different acct.
The first acct receives 20k. This acct is not touchable except on extreme emergency. Its our main savings acct.
The second acct gets 10k and its for our rent, also non touchable. Rent is 150k per year. Before u say my rent is high compared to my salary, I like my privacy very well. and the cost of rent isnt friendly in my state.
The third acct also gets 10k. This one is for semi savings. This acct is touchable when cash at hand have been exhausted before the next month salary.

From the remaining 50k,
I send 10k to my family acct. I and my brothers do contribute 10k+ every month and its been used to run expenses WRT our parents and last born.
I gv my wife 10k for her monthly up keep. Its small. But its the sacrifice we all have to make for the good of the family.
I hold 10k myself for logistics and transport. I must confess, is not enough. But One have to strive. My wrk place isnt far. SO transport is N100 to and fro, thats approximately 3k per month. The remaining money i use it for other logistics. 4k out of this money goes for gas wch last for abt 2 weeks. And when we want to refill and there is no other money left, we fall back to the 3rd acct.
The remaining 20k is strictly for food ( On this food issue is where I "duff my hart" cos shes really managing things well and trying.
Sometimes, I really feel for her, cos this her pregnancy makes her to crave for things that is not on our food menu, but then when the money is not there, she just surpress the cravings. At times I feel bad.

The remaining 5k, for now is used to pay back a tailor who sewed multiple pregnancy gowns for my wife.

Its good to add that any small money I make like 1k or 2k on side hustle, I directly buy mudu of rice, beans or flour for swallow.

Its not easy at all. But there are families with kids leaving below that.

My wife is abt 5mnths pregnant, we plan to divert the 20k savings to buying baby things in preparation for child birth.

The truth is that the economic situation in this country is bad and so cost of leaving is very high. But then one have to survive.
But then in Nigeria now, how many percentage of the population earn above 100k. In fact how many jobs out there pays such as amount.

The only advice I have for ladies is that if you are not working and you parent family is the type need financial help from your husband after marriage, or you are the type of lady that is high class and wont settle for less or manage with your man. Plz kindly wait and take your time to look for a man that is RICH or financially capable of taken care of you and maybe your family. Please dont hide under the cover of you want to marry quick and then accept a struggling man only to start putting pressure on his head. Plz wait and marry a rich man.

Most responsible men wont really appreciate it if you are always demanding for things you knw fully well that he can not afford.

It is also good to note that no condition is permanent, things will definitely get better. A better job might come or my wife might get a job after her maternity which will increase our income.

The bottom line is, as a couple, but of you will have to work things out to improve your finances.

Worst of all, you want to invest in a business that will put you in the mouth of the streets (POS) in a place you don't know anyone. This shows poor decision making on your part and you are headed for regret.
it would have been better if you were to say you want to invest that money on a business you can do anywhere and personally handle by yourself like youtubing, blogging, freelancing.

I strongly advice against this move.

good luck anyway

YouTubing yess.... I currently have a channel with 453 subs and 2k watch ours with just 3 Months of uploading content. I just want to move there, get a job that would allow me time to grow the channel to a reasonable sub amount because I don't want to depend on YouTubing for now. and also start another business for added income. The only reason I did not mention YouTubing here is because I felt people will say I'm not serious e.t.c. because you know our Naija people, them no believe in online business. The POS business you just have to be astute about it,due to how some unscrupulous people do.
