Good question.

I factored that consideration into my calculations by draining fuel from the carburettor supply line not by emptying the tank complete.

Approximately 1L of petrol was used in this experiment.
Oga Gazzuzz my own question be how u take start the gen. Will u first turn the gas knob and then draw ur gen or u start ur gen before turning the gas knob?

He already noted this in his analysis. He point out that they were same load.
I mentioned that for others to know that if your load isn't same as his, the consumption would vary.

So that people will not doubt his experiment, I made my comment.

Nah the explosive tendency of the CNG/LNG dey fear me.

But this is good, let more people switch yo CNG/LNG so the price of petrol can come down for poor people like me grin

in saner climes, 1 Kg of LPG is around half the price of 1 litre of petrol

Wait till harmattan period when they start selling a KG of LPG for 1,000 Naira before you can decide which is cheaper.

I just ordered this kit today from alaba. It's less than 20k.

The use of lpg is far cheaper.

12.5kg of gas will run for more than 120 hrs.

25litrs of fuel will not give you 24hours on same gen.

This text has been done in Nnewi last week, the carburetor already has a dealer there who has large quantity in stock.

Ibo people, Una wan sabotage dangote

Have they analysed the safety aspect

I don't want to hear sad story of explosion o

Good analyses, also you must also consider the pros and cons of each outside of it's price
First off, did you measure each based on same load weight.

1) Noise pollution
2) Satefy and maintenance required
3) Availability of the product

Load or idle, gen will run on similar conditions for both fuels .

Are you saying one cannot possibly be better than the other once a load is introduced? I would test under both conditions without and with load. There might be other constraints that need to be considered, this is an experiment that should be verified.

In response to the removal of PMS subsidy.

I have installed an LPG/CNG carburettor that also works with PMS (petrol)

Kindly note

Fuel tank emptied via the supply hose .

Scale set to measure lpg as it is consumed in KG

1L of fuel measured out into a gallon and will be poured into gen.

Same amount of load will be applied in both instances .

Timer set to zero.

I will start with LPG.... Will run for 1KG and I will turn it off once it hits 1kg on the scale the
mark the time.

Next will be petrol PMS, it will also run for 1L then I will mark the amount of time it took before gen went off.

1kg of gas = ₦650 (June 12 2023)

1L of petrol = ₦500 (June 12 2023)

Let's start.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Modified summary

Total time of LPG - 197mins at #650/kg

= #3.3/min

Total time or petrol - 106 mins at #500/l

= #4.7/m

Another way of looking at it .

With Gas

By calculation

1kg of gas at 650naira per kg lasted 3.17hours (3hours 17mins)

How many kg of gas per hour
650/3.17= 205.

Cost per hour = ₦205

I.e ₦205 of gas lasted one hour

*With Petrol*

One liter at #500 lasted 1.46mins (one hour 46mins)

Cost per hour= 500/1.46 = ₦342

Conclusion LPG cheaper

Personally gas is so safer than pms any day, but I'll have to put out this warning.

WARNING!!!!

LPG IS FLAMMABLE.

THE GAS LINE AND GAS CYLINDER SHOULD BE KEPT AWAY FROM NAKED FLAMES AND HOT SURFACES.

WHEN TROUBLESHOOTING A PROBLEM WITH YOUR GEN USE PMS ESPECIALLY FOR VALVE AND ELECTRICAL ISSUES.

FINALLY THE END PRODUCT IS STILL CARBON MONOXIDE AND GEN SHOULD NEVER BE USED IN A CONFINEMENT, CARBON MONOXIDE WILL KILL IF THIS HAPPENS.

Happy independence day people .

CNG is better interms of the flammability and ignition rate. CNG is considered safer in terms of flammability. It is lighter than air and disperses quickly if released, reducing the risk of fire or explosion. CNG has a narrow flammability range, meaning it requires a specific concentration of gas in the air for combustion to occur. This makes accidental ignition less likely.

Good you have started with Gas. But t one kg of gas is equivalent to 1.75 litres. So it a way better even though ut consume more
Re: I Converted My Generator to LPG And Tested The Fuel Consumption/Cost by Pythagoras001: 7:45pm On Jun 12, 2023
Lpg are usually odorless and for safety reason it mixed with other gas like butane. The danger here is that if it is pure lng and their is leak the gas would disperse far away from the source, you may not know and an explosion can be triggered by an ignition several meters away.

If you use a Non-Explosive Composite Fibre Cylinder, you won't have to worry about explosion with LPG, LNG, CNG or any other type of gas.

I'm just waiting for the results to come in, so I can decide on what to do next with my generator.

In terms of pricing, it is possible that petrol prices will fall a little with less demand if many Nigerians switch to gas to fuel their cars and generators, but what will happen to the price of gas with the high demand? You expect price of gas to remain below N700 per kg?
How much is the cylinder and where is location aka biz address

This is a big lie a 1 litre of fuel in filling station cannot run for 1hr 40min + on 2.5kva generator the one you measured is total gallon which is way higher than filling station 1 litre. The 1 litre of Mobil or total or lubcon gallon is approx 1.5 litres of filling station so no dey cap.

Kudos to you Gazuz.

In your evaluation , since Gas, is in kg, The 1Litre of petrol also needs to be converted to kg.

1L of petrol = 0.79kg

This cost comparison/ evaluation needs to be done with 1kg of petrol = about 1.27litres of petrol. The price of petrol will now change from 500 naira to #635 which is equivalent to 1kg of gas(#650)

in other for the comparison to make sense you compare mass to mass and not mass to volume because their density are not the same.
. I am sorry sir you are misguided

Th e entire purpose of the exercise is to influence a financial decision
So the basis of comparison should be how much gas does it take to run the generator at full capacity for a unit time for example 24 hours
Versus
How much petrol to achieve the same objective. And A comparison in cost

So comparison is neither mass nor volume but. Comparison of financial cost of running with either gas or petrol.

A Kg to kg comparison is useful for caloric studies in a physics study. Density does not come into it and is irrelevant

This is purely an economic or business study to determine which is the cheaper fuel

A good analogy is a diesel engine vehicle versus petrol

The motorist is concerned with kilometres per naira

It is important to learn how to formulate problems in other people's terms and address what is important to them
