Good morning,

Pls I want to apply for a visit visa for my parents to come for my wedding in Uk from Nigeria. I am on Post graduate visa in Uk and my husband is a Canadian

I don’t know what documents would be needed for their application and how long it will take.

Someone should help me Abeg

When is your wedding ? You don’t have to answer that but calculate the processing time now except you pay for super priority service ( decision will be out in a week maximum of 2)
Processing now takes 3-4weeks and over for standard visitor some who applied at the end of May are still waiting.

Invitation letter stating what mummy and daddy are coming to do, state daddy is walking you in even mummy and your MIL will have a dance competition and they are even bringing your traditional outfits for the wedding you have to put in right words to convince the ECO that it’s important they are there and after the occasion they are definitely returning home as they have tied assets back home it may include grand children, they attend church programme or your other siblings back home to show they can’t afford to over stay.

Wedding Invitation card showing both parents names the bride family part.
Copy of your residential status in the U.K..
Family pictures of you and your parents.
Family pictures of other members of your family present and living in Nigeria.
Birth certificate showing both of their names.
Proof you are getting married ( picture of you and hubby to be ) maybe your engagement pic.
Of your hubby is not already a resident in the U.K. no point putting the copy of his Canadian passport but if he is already in the U.K. you can add it.

Now proof of funds who is sponsoring them ? Whomever is sponsoring them should be able to submit an adequate bank account as this are two vulnerable adults ( vulnerable adults and children to them are the same thing ) so you really need to show an adequate care is in place for them for the duration of their intended stay be it accommodation, feeding, money for emergency.

If they are staying with you, tenancy agreement showing you can accommodate them, utility bill ( council tax, water bill, electricity/gas bill )if you know it will be overcrowded book an hotel for them.
I think in this case you can invite them for a week.
Arriving 3-4 days before the wedding.( you may even say their is a choreography session they have to attend within that 3-4days of their arrival.

And if mummy and daddy have some money in their accounts too it will be an added value to show their financial status, or if any of their other Children will be chipping in too because you are a student and to really sponsor two adults your bank account must be well rhythmic or whomever is.

All the best and Happy Married Life in Advance.
Views expressed is mine alone please listen to others too.

What you have to calculate
Flights tickets cost x 2
Accommodation for a week cost
Feeding cost for both of them for a week
Transportation cost a day travel card and Uber
Then sight seeing cost x2
Then small change incase of emergency ( that is if there is a need to see a GP or use the A&E service.

Hello, i intend going to the UK JULY, i cant make it anymore until later, so as a result, i cancelled my hotel reservations, within few minutes i got some disturbing messages from the hotel, this is the message

(Daam if only you had canceled your reservation couple days earlier I could of had this other booking for 7 days from 9th of July.!⚠️⛔️⚠️ name⚠️⛔️⚠️!. warning this is a general notice for all guests, Hope your not using this reservation notice for HMR Custom Services as they will be notified immediately from when this booking is canceled that you are not staying here during your reservation period. This is a general straightforward information notice to those taking advantage of this booking process and unless your motive is not to obtain a visa clearance this way you have nothing to worry about and if you are traveling on your way to England please be aware unless you are here already you will be stopped by Border Cross Immigration and Custom’s Service Officer’s if your main travel motivation / intention / purpose was only to obtain a visa clearance this way wasting my time using Booking.com⚠️⛔️⚠️!.

please what does it mean, am down with fever cant travel for now, please how can i sort this, so that later when i get t the UK , i will not have any issues, thanks

There are lots of loopholes in the mail sent to you, one of them being a terrible chain of grammatical errors coupled with badly constructed lines. This couldn't be official. It must have been sent by a scammer or an African or Asian junior staff who understands the "japa system" and really wanted to play a prank on you. Trust me, there is no law against canceling one hotel booking.

I really appreciate your time and help in providing this extensive response. I am grateful

However, my parents are retired civil servants but my dad still work as a company director and they have money to sponsor the trip. I will be assisting them with the accommodation.
My wedding is first week of October, I really hope their visa will be out before then.

I have UK government notice of marriage, is it okay to also add that to the supporting documents?
Can I use my dad bank statement for both( My mum’s ) applications

Add every documents that genuinely shows you are getting married so yes you will need to add it.

Mum can definitely depend on Dad since they are still married ( so their marriage certificate will also be submitted )
Employment proof
Salary proof it should be consistent (if he is not paying himself a salary he should start from now)
And explanation of any deposited funds in his account other than his Salary and he will be writing a cover letter to say he is sponsoring himself and his wife.

October is not very close, so there is enough time to even work on the bank account(s) they will be submitting.
You can apply for standard visitor from first week in August and if it is priority service you can apply first week in September.
But I will say you should apply earlier ( August ) incase the application is refused based on one or two reason(s) and if the reason(s) for the refusal is something that can be quickly worked on then you have time to re apply so your both parents can be present.
All the best.

Hello everyone!

Three people did.
One was priority service and the other two wasn’t
Ikeja TLS and Abuja TLS.
I think their biometrics was done around first week in June.
If you check previous post from last week you will see their visa alert/ refusal timeline.

When did you do your biometrics ?
Mine was on the 7th ikeja.
And the email I received on the 11th
See below 👇
Thank you for your visa/entry clearance application which has been received and is under consideration. We aim to process non settlement applications within 15 working days and settlement applications within 60 working days (unless you have opted for a Priority Visa service).

We are unable to resolve your application within these customer service targets, due to operational restrictions. Please be assured that we will continue to progress your application to enable a decision to be made as soon as possible.

Please do not attend the application centre until you have been contacted by the VAC.

Kind regards
Croydon DMC

From the second paragraph I know I will definitely have to take a chill pill so fingers crossed,
And mine is for family of 4 same email for everyone.

I got the below email, so definitely travel agents do read our comments.

Dear Ma,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding in the UK!

We understand how important it is for your parents to be present on
this special occasion, and we're here to guide you through the process
of applying for their visit visa.

As you mentioned in your post on the UK visa thread on Nairaland
forum, you are currently on a Postgraduate Visa in the UK, and your
husband is a Canadian citizen.

Here are some scenarios and advice to help you navigate the visit visa
application process:

1. Visitor Visa for Parents:
Your parents will need to apply for a Standard Visitor Visa to visit
the UK for your wedding. They should provide documents to demonstrate
their intent to return to Nigeria after their visit, such as
employment letters, property ownership, Strong family bond and any
other ties to Nigeria.

2. Financial Requirements:
To meet the financial requirements, your parents or the sponsor should
provide evidence of sufficient funds to cover their travel and stay in
the UK. This may include bank statements, pay slips, or evidence of
financial support from you or your husband.

3. Invitation Letter:
Write a sincere and detailed invitation letter, specifying the purpose
of their visit (attending your wedding), the dates they intend to
stay, and your support during their visit. Include your contact
information and address in the UK, as well as any additional
information that strengthens their application (Build a strong case
for their coming as it is very important for the process).

4. Supporting Documents:
Encourage your parents to provide supporting documents, such as their
valid passports, employment letters, bank statements, proof of
relationship (birth certificates, marriage certificates), and any
other relevant documents that demonstrate their intent to return to
Nigeria after the visit.

5. Application Processing Time:
The processing time for visit visa applications can vary. On average,
it may take around 2-3 weeks for a decision, but it's essential to
apply well in advance to allow sufficient time for the application to
be processed.
