Hello, thanks for your answer. I actually was not in for a dick contest , hence I appreciate your answer.

Since the Jim Simons topic has already been raised in this place a few times (and I always remained silent) let me use the opportunity to address it.

First off, I never claimed technical analysis is absolutely useless. I said to the average Joe it is actually gambling. To be truly useful TA requires a level of Skill that is very rarely available to retail investor. Heck even Simons was not successful until he formed a group of geniuses around him (himself equally a math genius).

Secondly, one can argue that Simons does not really practices TA as done by majority of speculators. Although the details of his strategy remain proprietary, the core idea is now (through former employees) known: he uses high level arbitrage across asset classes coupled with high leverage. His strategy is said to work up to a net fund of about 100 millions (if my memory serves me right).

Why do you think his fund is closed to investors? Beyond that amount the returns diminish.

If anyone thinks Simons does chart analysis to predict the direction of the stock market, nothing could be further from the Truth. Not to mention that all his trades are computer generated and not humanly analyzed.

Yes, if one has the brain Ressource of Simons and his team, TA is effective, but to the average retail investor looking at Gant Charts and analyzing Waves, it is most likely as effective as random luck.
I agree with you.
My portfolio growth follow Sentimental analysis. The technical analysis never allowed you to benefit from long term reward. Most brokers have misled retail investors and traders with constant alarm of Buy, Hold, and Sell.
A review Transcorp Hotel in my portfolio, bought in February 2021 @ N3.35k is currently at 430% gain excluding dividends, while NAHCO units bought in 2020 @sub N3.00 is currently at over 538% gain excluding dividends and bonus.
Technical analysis is a mirror that I use in x-raying the market, a guide for my decision making (Buying ,Selling, Holding).
The beauty of sentimental analysis is that there is no proven instrument to measure it, winning with it is following the market religiously, scanning for opportunities.
Waiting to buy from the impatient investors for the purpose of accumulating a generational wealth, ignoring the sell alarm button from the herds and brokers.
Key into the primary activity, the core service provision of the company, the potential of the company to generate revenue in the future, the management composition are some of the fundamental that can make one to succeed in NGX.
I can testify that sentiment and patient is core essential in my portfolio growth 📈.

all in the name of learning i see this as an opportunity to learn from TA /SA/ FA group. This is my proposition:

Brokerage account : to make things easy I nominate @Emmasoft to help with the ground work of setting up account personal or corporate account whatever is needed for interested participants. @Emmasoft Is there a way to set -up an account that can be tracked for one member from each group? can you help interested participant to set-up an account? what will be the requirement FOR SAKE OF TRANSPARENCY ALL INTERESTED MEMBERS , UPDATES MUST BE MADE HERE. NO DM's.
Timeline of this project : Minimum of 10 years. Hopefully we will all be healthy, prosperous and learn clearly along the way how this approach works in NSE.

Catch: Rule of engagement will be communicated here. knowing unscrupulous element may be interested in thwarting the process, there will be lein on your accounts.
a. Firstly, Register your interest, open an account through @ Emmasoft investmentone. I don't know Mr /Mrs. Emmasoft from Adam. i figured he is a part of the community . Hence, he can guide the house on the process.
b. Q1,2,3 and 4 report of holdings and performance only is allowed to avoid derailing this thread.
c. All proceeds from Dividend paying stock must be reinvested to the same security. Dividend in this situation for all candidate is considered capital.

d. Annual Profit : Profit taking for the year will be 30% of capital gain realised
e. Total realised profit at the end of the program will be split 50% profit for participating Technical Analyst / Fundamental Analyst/ Sentimental Analyst 50% profit for me.

Worse case scenario this is an effort in futility. better scenario: This is possibly the beginning of an endowment paying it forward to help upcoming members

Funding: 50k Naira per person to start with when the account is opened, verified here. (This is meagre fund for the multi-millionaire traders and investors amidst us but we start with this) Limitation: 1 person for FA. 1 person TA, 1 person SA. semi-annual or yearly re-allocation will be considered based on discretionary funds available.

Let the Monkey HUNTING, Fundamental / Technical analysis with no paralysis begin... Thanks everyone.

Noone is competing with you or any other person on a faceless forum, and noone is going to take up your challenge. Individuals portfolio speak for them.
However, Emmasoft need to convince investment one to review their brokerage commission of 1.35% to align with Morgan 0.5% , or Atlas 0.6%.
Investing with Investment one at any purchase already placed a value investor at bar 0.85%.
As for me investment one is NO, NO, NO.

Reason why it advisable to have more than one Stockbroking accounts.

The accounts are for different reasons.

I have been a client of Investment One for more than 10 years.

A typical client who has a business won't mind the commission because he knows he can assess credit facilities up to a maximum of N20 million per account to finance other money making opportunities the 0.85% difference in commission won't matter to that type of client.

Although I also have a stockbroking account with Stanbic IBTC Stockbroker, unfortunately my bank Stanbic IBTC Bank only accept FGN bonds and their Mutual Funds as collateral

I am sure you would not take financial advice from someone who has never had any financial breakthrough. Similarly, you cannot make any credible statements about technical analysis (TA) because you have never practiced it. If someone like BBM comes here and says TA is "shìt" after using it for years, then we should listen. This is simple logic.

Simply reading about something does not make you an expert in it; you must practice it or you will be left with an illusion of knowledge, which can be even more dangerous.

By the way, Jim Simons was a very successful technical trader even before he started Renaissance. There are many biographies about him on the internet. Thank you. wink

Picking stocks and hoping to build massive wealth over time is a big gamble and mostly a losers game. The average investor will be better off using low cost mutual funds , index funds or ETFs on their path to wealth.

Please what's the interest rate percentage that investment one give? Meristem provides this service as well @between 22 to 25%

With the recent naira/$ rates unification naira devaluation dividend yield of companies that pay in $ (eg seplat airtel etc) will almost doubled. What impact could these have on their share price?

Meristem has 2 rates, about 20% for Margin loans. You can only buy approved shares based on their list. They review the list every quarter, maybe to encourage frequent trading. There was a time when GTB was removed from the list, meaning the client would have to sell his or her GTB shares.

I love flexibility, i am not comfortable with the restrictions from Meristem.

Their Asset Backed loan is about 30% all inclusive, you can buy shares with the loan or use it for personal and business expenses. You need monthly or quarterly serving of the loan

The interest rate for Investment One is 22% per annum, they operate bullet payment of the loan interest and principal. Loan runs for a year, you can pay before the maturity of the loan.

Meaning a loan of N1 million at 22%, if you decide to pay after 6 months, you will pay N1.11 million, that is N1 million plus 110k interest.

Not a bad deal for a textile importer who has a stockbroking account with the firm, whose profit margin from his business can be as high as 60% and above

Networth can always fluctuate and evaporate, but should try as much as possible to make his or Investment income grow both in a bull and bear market.

I am of the opinion that Investment income is about the greatest tool to building a lasting portfolio .

Not forgetting diversification and portfolio rebalancing

The strategy isn't the most important thing. Most strategy probably has some value. The most important thing is discipline. It takes discipline to go against the herd. To buy when others are fearful and bailing out, to sell when your stock is overvalued but prices are still going up.

According to Eric Edelman, author of "Ordinary people, extraordinary wealth".

Consistentcy is better than skill or smartness.

You need discipline in order to be consistent

Besides, the market does not collapse in one day unless there is a black swan event that shakes that company...

Another problem is that most of us, maybe 70% of us believe stock market is the only game in town.

Those who win long term are diversified. I thought I was smart in 2006 when I was pyramiding my gains into bigger speculative position, i was an unrepentant margin trader between 2002 and 2007.

Whereas older people in the speculative business were using their gains to buy properties, expand their businesses, buy forex denominated Investments,

My saving grace in 2006 was because I did not buy private placements, dead stocks, penny stocks, insurance stocks and any of the stocks marketed by Yomi, if not i for hear serious wheeeen.
