However I clicked on the link about the 7k mortality and it was broken. It led nowhere.
Besides that is not a medical or scientific site, so I take their info with a truckload of salt

That's true.

But why all the loratidine etc over something that will clear up on its own? Plus ibuprofen? Does conjunctivitis hurt? Thought it's more of a dirty disease.
If you notice, I added viral conjunctivitis (aka Apollo by laymen) to my differential diagnoses. It presents with eye grittiness which may explain the ibuprofen.
I'm not defending his prescription tho. There were mistakes there.
By the way, hope you know viral conjunctivitis is now prevalent. Take precautions

Lol.

All of you who "fight" off medicine induced drowsiness need a strait jacket. Is it like a badge of honor? Some people like fighting it off for kicks. And others savor the sleep.

I think the resistance gets better with age, though. Couldn't tolerate such before, but now fighting it off comes more easily. Or maybe it's discipline. You snooze you lose. grin

Fight it off for the kicks. It's almost like enjoying the triumph. The sleep is too deep and it's not as refreshing as a non-induced sleep.

The handwriting is clear and legible to the Pharmacist enough that he can interpret and correct errors and intervene if the treatment goals are not clear or going to counter one another leading to wastage of time and resources. It is also necessary for regulatory filing just in case a case comes up

Most professionals do not have great handwriting. I have met few exceptions though and I still marvel at their beautiful handwriting till date.

In this prescription, there are already errors on it and a Pharmacist must intervene. If not, that patient is just wasting his time and money wink
Most people are in hospitals to manage the side effects of their medications and that's why you need the Pharmacist to see your prescription first and foremost even before getting and/or taking your medications. Prescription errors are not uncommon.
There is a reason why they are called Medical doctors as they are primarily in charge of the patients. It will have been easier to swap responsiblity if you think you know better.
There are certain details they know about the patient that you might not be aware of. As far as I'm concerned, they have superior knowledge of Pathophysiology basis of Diseases hence some of the alterations which may look wrong when you see them that's where comprehensive history taking from the patients comes in.
If you think the doctor prescription is wrong, the right thing to do is to call his attention to it rather changing his prescription when YOU did not even get Patient detailed history in the first place. In saner climes, you'd be arrested before you even think of doing that.

They attend special course units
for illegible calligraphic🖌️ writing ✍️✍️✍️

Truth though is that for 1st 3 years, the workload in medical school is heavy and
lecturers after lecturers just come and
dictate . If you are not a fast writer, you'll
get left behind in lecture notes & fast
writing sacrifices quality of the writing. That
is how it starts and remains with them.

This is the real reason

Medical school and.practoce makes it that the doctor has to.work.and write fast

Doctors are notorious for being unable to write legibly. The most common explanation seems to be that overuse of the hands and the need to write notes quickly are to blame. The sheer volume of information recorded daily causes our handwriting, even if it was good initially, to deteriorate over time.
Then what you say about teachers? Them for don turn lepers be that na

I knew you'll apply the poor logical reasoning you apply in religious matters in your daily life.
Those handwritings are learned right from med school. Mine was right from pharmacology classes. Also from ward rounds. You have to keep up with rapid words of the lecturer or consultant. And s/he won't repeat himself for anyone. If you snooze, you lose.
And you as a patient reserve the rights to ask your doc the names and reasons for the drugs you take. Also ask for side effects. We are under obligations to tell you. If the doc declines, you can report or sue him or her

I know you'll apply your flawed logical reason to my response the way you do all religious matters.

Didn't you see I wrote that those handwritings are part or the training? Why did you have to learn a separate kind of writing from med school? Telling me I have the obligation to ask the doc is balderdash. Why the doc must write in a separate way from his normal handwriting is the only way to answer question.

That was how an inhouse pharmacist in a hospital gave me a wrong drug. Thanks for my curiosity, checked the indication and nothing related to my health condition was mentioned there. I raised alarm and pharmacist ran to the doctor to clarify, lo and behold, I was right.

Doctors in the house should learn how to write in a language both your patient and the pharmacist can comprehend. A lot have died cos of this negligence.

I can't take drugs I have zero knowledge of. Not me.

Its not about hygiene. You can have the best hygiene and have viral conjunctivitis every day. Why? It's spread via body fluids and droplets. So you can pick it up from door handles, exchanging pens etc

The law doesn't require you to read the doc prescription but it requires the doc to intimate you of the drugs, especially if you ask. So please ignore the prescription sheet hieroglyphics and always ask your doc what he prescribes. Its your rights

Still poor hygiene. Post-Covid, receive should have better ideas about sanitation.

If u understand English I said I learned to write this way from med school and it has stuck with since then me whether I'm writing at work or anywhere.
Should I type in your native language for you to understand ?

It was not your normal writing. It is part of your professional training which has now become second nature to you. The question is, why must you learn a new way to write in the first place? Why must you abandon your normal handwriting for a new illegible one? Do I have to write in your native language for you to understand?

You still don't understand.
Someone with viral conjunctivitis has hyperlacrimations(excessive eye secretions) and gritty eyes, and thus would rub his eyes to clear them and reduce the pain, itchiness and fluid. Now he'll come to the hospital and open the doors with virus(and bacteria superinfection) laden hands. The next patient with something different like malaria comes, opens the same door and picks up some virus. Then rubs his eyes or nose, few days later gets it. He may also pick it if he borrows a pen or a personal object from the conjunctivitis guy. Would you say the second person(malaria patient) has poor hygiene?
That's why I regularly wipe down my consulting room door handles with spirit swab after I get these cases. To prevent the next patient picking it up
