UK this and UK that is all they type with Their ignorant imaginations and assumptions,

Let's me remind u ignoramus folk's that job's vacancies waiting to be filled in uk is much More than the people living in UK, UK will Keep receiving immigrants from now till 2030, there's nothing they can do about it,

Lot's of Nigerians in UK are doing Better and greater than other nationals,

All i see From some folks against people living in UK is envy, jealous And lack of exposure,

I will not say much, Keep wallowing in ur legendary ignorance.

The likes on this post is stupid.

How many Nigerians can afford good medical care ? Not more than 10% of the population.

cases of fake doctors giving people medical care ? too many too count.

Accident happen to person in the UK. Ambulance go carry am , free of charge.

Dem stab person, ambulance go carry am for UK, doctors no go reject am, dem go treat person.

NHS go cover am.

Your post is actually stupid, and so are the people are liked and shared it. No deep thinking.

3ice9ce:

Have you ever travelled out of Nigeria in your entire life?
Medical care in Nigeria is very very cheap compared to the UK and, US and Canada. The difference is health insurance those ones have.
The cost of an ambulance ride in the UK will do CS birth for 4 women in Naija.
Or have you factored the waiting time before you can see a GP in the UK?

Like I said to the person above, you clearly don’t know what it means to be a somebody. Your problem is you think being a somebody is about finances. Every village, every street, every church, every what not in Nigeria , you are a somebody. Whether you are the hungry Mai guard, the Uber driver, the bank manager the struggling teacher, the doctor or the governor. As a Nigerian abroad, you are a nobody. This is not about your bank account or whether you can pay your bills.

Everybody is Nigeria is a somebody in his circle or society. Abroad you are a nobody. You won’t understand this because most of you have never lived abroad.

I studied abroad for both B.A and Msc in Clinical Child Psychology, presently live in Cambridge, UK.......so remind me again of what I won't understand. cheesy grin

1). Most of them spend all they earn on mortgage, rent, food, transport, car loan, credit card bills etc.

2). 99% of them will never be able to save $95,000 after 20 years. I can tell you for a fact that 90% of Nigerians in the UK don’t have £20,000 in cash to their name. Most who have net worth have their net worth in their homes because they have been paying mortgage and built equity over time. People say your home is an asset…is it? To get any money from the home you either sell it or you take a loan, so really it is just a psychological asset that in all probability you will never enjoy as it is your children that will inherit it. If you sell it you have to buy another home, or you go from homeowner to tenant. if you take a loan on it or remortgage, you have new debt o. So even Nigerians that have equity in their homes are stuck. 90% of Nigerians in the Uk cannot raise £10,000 without a bank loan or credit card. The system gives with one hand and takes it all with the other.

3. Finally someone on level 16 in Nigeria is likely close to or above 50 yrs old. How can someone who has achieved that status in Nigeria go to the uk to become a security guard? What is the sense in that?

@me

Still exhibiting the status consciousness that is part of Nigeria's problem lol.

Have you lived abroad? Simple question? If no then don’t speak on things you don’t understand, have not experienced and have enough humility to listen to those who have. Like I said I am a British born citizen, I don’t have to be in Nigeria, I was very well paidn the UK. Ivolountarily came back and it was tough returning but I will never go back. If I need a break from Nigeria, I have a passport that can take me to most countries without a visa. But I tell you when I go back to the Uk and see my friends many of whom have homes worth more than £1m, despite the problems in Nigeria I don’t don’t envy them. They all wish they can come back but they have been abroad for so long, they don’t know how to come back.

The problem is that most nigerians spend all their money all the JAPA process.

By the time you spend 15,000pounds on school - how long to make it back.

Most UK people always lie to the family in Nigeria, about not having money. Dem no wan carry person load for head....

Food used to be cheap in Nigeria, it is not anymore.

Funny....

But don-t be Myopic. They are Nigerians doing professional jobs accounts , IT specialists, Engineers. That are making it.

Not every Nigerian is cleaning Nyash.

Also there is dignity in labor. This is a culture that is gradually disappearing in Nigeria. Its better to clean Nyash, and be productive, than stay at home.

Yes u are right, most of these people will never do such for their parents.

How old are you how long have you worked there? It is not in your youth that these things will set in. It is when you start to see your contemporaries in Nigeria surpass you exponentially. Usually that will start in your 40s.

Trust me you will get there.

You are a doctor. In Nigeria the state commissioners for health, the minister for health, the medical director of all hospitals will always be a Nigerian. If Nigeria is nominating someone to WHO and other world bodies. It will always be a Nigerian. If the government of Nigeria is setting up a committee to outline national, state policy for health it will consist of Nigerian doctors. If the Nigerian government is nominating a representative to discuss high level health policy with other high level health officials, it will be a Nigerian. In the Uk, 99.9% it won’t be you. It will likely be a Brit or an Indian. So by being in the Uk you already have certain ceilings you will likely not rise above and some positions and exposure that will never come your way, despite the fact that yeah, you will make money and practice your profession….but only to a certain level.

90% of where we get to in life is opportunity. As a Nigerian abroad, you simply reduce your opportunities to get to the very top of your profession. Again you will be professionally and financially comfortable but there is a ceiling. There are doors that project one to the very top that exist in Nigeria that are closed by virtue of the fact that you are abroad. As a doctor you will be comfortable but you very unlikely to be involved in decision making, policy formulation, lasting societal impact working abroad than if you came back to Nigeria because the opportunities will not likely be available to you abroad.

Most Nigerians abroad will be will never fulfill their potential or get to the very top because those doors are not open to you and at some point when you’ve achieved the financial comfort and practiced your profession, these things start to matter…especially when you start to see your contemporaries back home, whom you probably overtook in the early stages of your career, or who came back home in time achieving things that you now realize you won’t be able to. At that stage it is not about money or comfort. That is my point.

Nigeria is a member of IMF, Nigeria has positions to fill, they won’t be filled by Nigerian economists in the Uk. Those positions will not go to the Nigerian abroad and your host country will. It put you forward against their indigenes.

UK is similar to USA. My cousin age 27 recently moved to the UK about 6 months ago, he's very happy and not complaining about his factory job.

I migrated to USA and started life working illegally as a fast food cook. You can check my comment record for my detailed accounts of my journey in the USA. I paid cash for my university education and built a house in Nigeria before I graduated university. As a fast food cook I lived better than bankers or doctors in Nigeria with 10 years experience. That's fact.

I really don't know where you guys get this notion that people abroad can't or don't save money. There's reliable published stats from IMF, Western Union etc detailing the billions of dollars in remittances sent to Nigeria by the diaspora. What other evidence do you need that Nigerians abroad save money from their earnings? We feed the people of Nigeria, build houses for them, send cars and put them through university and all we get in return is scorn rooted in jealousy.

casualobserver:

Rubbish...Nigeria where an accident victim has to pay CASH before being treated in a hospital? Where is the care? But of course they will attend the funeral to eat rice & stew.

In Nigeria can you call police if an armed robber breaks into your home and expect a response? I told the story how my wife's car was stolen about 2 months ago. She called police, they mobilized and found her car the next day, luckily undamaged. It's unlikely to happen in Nigeria.

Community...we have a community here in the USA and it's even stronger in the UK because Nigerians have deeper roots there. See this one....invited to party? My family belongs to a Nigerian Church with over 300 members right here in Raleigh NC. There are hometown and tribal clubs like Egbe Omo Oduduwa and Igbo Union and Akwa Ibom Union, they have members. They socialize and look after each other.

I have American friends of every kind of background. In fact after my disastrous return from Nigeria, it was my American friends who helped me get on my feet. I lived with a Black American friend for 6 months without paying a dime in rent. When I went back to reapply for my job, I was afraid they wouldn't take me. I expressed that to my boss, a woman from the Phillipines. This is EXACTLY what she said to me, verbatim

"Ibe, you have friends here. Why would you think that we won't re-employ you?"

I was ashamed of myself that day. I remembered Nigeria where my relatives defrauded me of my money and property, employees stole from me, government officials were demanding bribe every left and right to let me do business.

So what on earth are you on about?

Nigerians are a special people. For real.

Good Luck to you all.

Face me with facts brother. You writing jargons.

I work in the private sector, and the mismanagement of the Nigerian economy is ensuring that this sector is shrinking, salaries are shrinking .

Don-t write rubbish please.

Only 0.5% of Nigerian adults earn over ₦200K per month. That's statistical fact and I know it from real life interactions. If indeed you earn ₦1 million per month, you're probably in the top 0.005%. I would only doubt your claim because you've chosen an anonymous handle. What are the odds that someone that rare would be on Nairaland? Every Nigeria resident on Nairaland claims to be a remote worker for USA companies, earning over $20K per month. grin

Good Luck to Nigerians.

Yes, I have . if you enter the country legally. You will have access to medical facilities., unlike in Nigeria that even the HMO will not help matters. A very good hospital in Nigeria, you pay through your nose. Ordinary Oxygen that are available for patient in abroad, is gold in Nigeria's Hospital. Maybe it was a long time you visit the general hospital. Go and see what is happening there, no space for patients , if you managed to get, maybe you no someone at the top.

@3ice9ce, I hope you read this comment. Please, get your facts right always.

Let me break it down.

A single Nigerian lady who is legal in the UK and works full-time as a children residential support worker (basically a professional parent). She works Tues morning from 8a.m to 9p.m earning £144 for that shift with free meals, then from 9p.m when the waking night staff has taken over from her. she goes in to the designated room in the house to sleep and she is paid another £56 for sleeping in there as she will be a backup should there be an emergency during the night shift.

She wakes up Wednesday morning, baths, have breakfast and resume work in the house at 8a.m repeats the same circle of the previous day, then Thursday she works from 8a.m to 9p,m and she leaves the house for her home......earning her £544 for the week, expected to show again up next week Tuesday....her gross pay at the end of the month will be £2,176.

She is free on Fridays, Saturdays, Sunday and Mondays......she decides to work for an agency on Saturdays, doing a 12hrs shift at £17/per hour and that is £204 every Saturday and 4 Saturdays is £816.

Combined is £2,992, after the deduction of National Insurance, Income Tax and pension...should be going home with at least £2,300 per month.

She pays rent for £500 (bills inclusive), transport for both work and leisure at £150, groceries and toiletries at £150, phone and Netflix subscription for £35, clothing and footwears £200, hairdo £50, other miscellaneous expenses £100.

Will she not save comfortably?
children residential support worker AKA (Nanny)/househelp

someone down here in Nigeria will be reading ur post now and using it as a basis for his or her relocation. Thinking the job as a Nanny is readily available

Are you being paid by the Govt for being a Nanny, or you are being paid by the host family? A family paying two workers about £4,352 per month means they earn far more than what they are paying you too monthly, and they might be just an averaged UK resident who are not that rich or wealthy. You working under them will be categories as what? (Poor) less privilege.

If you are working for the govt, you must be incharge of pretty lot of children, with a shift of 13hrs on the go, isn't that exhaustive.

Looking at your expenses allocation, don't you think you are living a boring life? Was there anytime you saw people living better than you are in the UK and you wished you where like them.

Working to jobs and can't even afford a car or live a normal life in the UK means you are definitely amongst the low income earners. You know how even in Nigeria, some jobs are left out for the togolese and Niger 🇳🇪 immigrants, because majority of Nigerians have outgrown the job.

Why would you think that we won't re-employ you?" I was ashamed of myself that day. I remembered Nigeria where my relatives defrauded me of my money and property, employees stole from me, government officials were demanding bribe every left and right to let me do business.

So what on earth are you on about?

Nigerians are a special people. For real.

Good Luck to you all.

May God bless you tremendously for your comment.

You will appreciate UK more if you have been kidnapped before or robbed at gun point. Small gunshot wound is amputation in Nigeria. Do you know how many people have died just because of hospital negligence in Nigeria? Sicknesses flying everywhere in Nigeria with a shorter lifespan. You can easily be poisoned or be killed in Nigeria by friends or family. I relocated not because of the money but because of the peace of mind. No bullies from police or anyone with a high social status. You get real justice for any crime. Do you know how many innocent people are in kirikiri? If I am to choose between money or peace and security, I will choose the latter over and over. Life should not be about competition but rather quality life. The average white man has no savings because he knows when he is old, the government will take care of him. His pension and other benefits will come when due. I have seen people receive benefits of up to 2,000 pounds. The lowest income earner in the UK can afford to tour round Europe easily. Let's talk about inflation. Before I japa, I already for saw the dollar would exchange for 1000 naira as at when it was 500 naira to a dollar. I put it to you that with this current asiwaju tenure, by the the end of 4years, the USD would exchange for 2500naira. The middle class will become poorer. Lastly, imagine after the struggle to survive and you finally have the British passport, you will know the value then. Most of the wealthy people in naija all have a foreign passport with no travel restrictions

Funny enough, if there is a free flight to UK this week, Nigeria will almost be empty.

People are going through hell in their own country, they would prefer a place they can earn even if it takes them to work assiduously.

Seeing an old man gathering woods and sands from flood just to feed tells you how worst things are presently.

At times I said I'm broke, but received some SOS messages from married people who just need to put food on the table for the night even though the next day wasn't sure. I have to empty my account most times for those in dire need. Someone close to me committed suicide despite the little help we could gather for him financially.

Nigeria , Nigeria, Nigeria my dear country, you will one day be healed from this mess you are.
We still trust for a better day someday.
Been long I come across a normal human like this on nairaland.
