IkpemhiTG: Haba, why all these bad advice... We are in UK and we are all doing well to the glory of God. If she got job as paramedic, great one for you... Option 1.... she goes alone, take care of the child alone in Nigeria or get a female relative to help you, then join her maybe after 6 months or so. She has COS I assume, hence you can always apply as dependent, you will get your visa. Option 2...go with her to UK, you may not plan to work for now, let her do her paramedic job and you take care of baby at home. Bro, the money alone as paramedic will help all of you to survive well (na only 3 na, father, mother and small baby), even with bills, you will survive, just don't overdo/overspend, don't do what is not necessarily, dont eat/buy things not needed. Moreover, its not like nigeria where you work without stopping, here you have a max number of hours to work in a week as per government rule, if you then decide to do extra, then you get your extra pay (I am talking about sponsorship jobs, not student visa) She is also likely to do shift work as a paramedic, hence she would still be available sometimes depending on her shift, i(so it's not that bad) Also when she is off work, you can do your own hustle. Do you know that as at now £1 =1450-1500 naira? Oga, don't dull yourself o.. But always remember to pray about any step you wanna take. Shalom 4 Likes 1 Share |

Life as a single mom in the UK has its challenges and opportunities . There's financial support, healthcare and educational options for your child. It may be tough, but it's also a chance for new experiences. Wishing you and your child the best during this time apart |

Leaving a tender five months old baby is such a hard somewhat heartless decision but if it much be done then baby should be given to paternal or maternal grandmother and a female relative or help must stay with them both. 1 Like |

As usual, I read to the end. Interesting and surprising comments. One of the reasons I like Nairaland - ordinary Nigerians bare their minds all. I understand the aspect of those who opposed the woman leaving her husband and five month old baby. Well, when the Nigerian economy was good a decade and a few years ago, such a topic will never come up because there were jobs and living standards were pretty OK. You see why, as men, we need to ensure the country works? So, that our wives will not have to travel to far-flung areas to eke a living simply because home is not better. The average Japanese man will never opt to have his wife travel out of the country, leaving him with a five-month-old baby to cater for when Japan can provide the essential economic well-being for him and his family. On the other hand, a Japanese woman with a five-month-old baby will not even bother to look for jobs abroad when economic opportunities brekete for her type in her country. When you see Japanese women outside the country; they are there for studies, working as single women or are wives of Japanese men whose companies (Japanese) posted to work at overseas branches and factories. Even when the single women get married and have a child abroad, they yearn to return home (Japan), where the infrastructure and cultural support are plentiful. Sha, I have digressed, but maybe with time, we will begin to see reasons why we should work hard so home is better and economically comfortable: https://www.nairaland.com/6643241/nigerian-men-failed-women 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Kobojunkie: There are situations which family should prioritize as important, and step in. It's not just weddings and burials. In this case, if there's no other option, because I don't support the mother leaving the baby at this stage. If not at this time, when will they help and show support? I don't really believe the dad can take care of that tender baby. That gentleness, that instinct. This is firstly about the welfare of the baby, and an experienced grandma will do better at caring for the baby. A man can take care of an older child, but not an infant. 2 Likes |

purples25:1. So, a mother leaves her child with the father of the child. But, rather than the child's father prioritizing his care, he should go about his hustle and business, burdening instead his mother and sisters -- relatives-- with the child's care. Who then carries the priorities that belong to those relatives you mentioned? 2. In your view, the same men that women pine for and believe are capable of showering them with love and affection are incapable of the gentleness and instinct necessary to care for the children they birth from their loins? So if the woman is no longer in the picture, the child might as well be condemned dead because a man, according to you, is incapable of raising even his brood? 2 Likes |

Kobojunkie: 1. The child is dear to all, a priority to them all, and can never be a burden to it's blood family. We're talking about a temporary situation here. If dad can fend for baby's needs while experienced relatives take care of the baby, it is better. There's nothing wrong if they do that family support and help him out. 2. That Dad is capable of loving both mom and baby does not magically give him the skills to care for a child. There are good and gentle people, not even just men, who cannot care for children of any age. Some men can do it, some can't. The child should not be gambled with - 'can daddy do it or not, let's put your life on the line and see, give you to a stressed out working man who has never handled a baby before. Hey baby, maybe you'll be alright!' It's not just about if he can do it or not. It's about giving the baby the very safest condition. That safest condition is better attained with someone who isn't nervous, rushing to work, experimenting, without any experienced person nearby to guide. Even I as a new mom, needed some guidance from other women. That family will have to pitch in, whether he's good or not, especially as he's working. It will reduce the risk. Even if he can care for the child. 1 Like |

frog12: You'll remain in Nigeria because of your mindset. One of my sister and cousin sister have gone to US and Canada respectively came back and marry their fiance and relocate back. Why didn't they marry over there? Whoever want to misbehave will do so, whoever don't want to misbehave will not QED. |

fykes: If you follow this doofus, your wife may end up hating you and jeopardize her employment she has been praying for. Whether or not she’s in a busy city doesn’t mean she can carry the baby everywhere. If she’s at work then she’s at work, there’s no in-between. When you see men that never raised a finger for babies especially at a tender age you can tell. You either all travel together or let your wife go alone. Parenting is not the same abroad, at that age the baby will get used to you, you’re equally the parent as your wife, get that African mentality out of your mind. You can also get a carer easily and affordable in Nigeria. Ps if you all travel together be ready to still be the primary carer for that baby except you can afford nursery which isn’t cheap |
