@Casualobserver,

Thanks a lot for the functional info on the generic alternatives... I'll check it out with the NL search function. I went through the OPs past NL posts and discovered that he's still into posted politically and ethnically bigoted threads, and hate speeches even as recent as yesterday. He's one of those who create threads to stir up hatred and the emotions of ill-informed people here on NL instead of providing functional information. I made a useful contribution here only for him to quote me and went off tangent due to his lack of comprehension.

I have him on my radar and the Super mods will move in to ban him and his fellow ethnic bigots on this thread if they don't stop stirring hate.

We want the best for folks back in Nigeria and this is why we make useful contributions here and not propaganda fueled by dishonesty and bigotry.

All the best.

When you start wearing the shoes of those actually IN NIGERIA, maybe you would understand better how well it pinches. Because it beats me how a topic like this with objective numbers and figures is being twisted by you into a thing of "propaganda and tribalism".

Ban OP for stirring hate, for what exactly? For stating that medication has actually gone up in price Please and please don't be ridiculous.

This is beyond petty politics and tribalism. The politicians (APC, PDP, LP) will fly abroad for ordinary ear infection but can the ordinary people in Nigeria do same?

Apart from drugs being expensive, there are job losses as a result of the exit of this company.

So please shut up

It's not just about GlaxoSmithKline leaving Nigeria as a result of global cost-cutting measures. From well-known facts on the ground, the very high spike in the cost of those pharmaceutical products majorly has to do with the massive greed and the criminal act of hoarding the old stock of these pharmaceutical drugs by the dealers and retailers. These are the criminals who would blame the politicians but they themselves are an epitome of massive greed and corruption.

The government too has to put in place price control mechanisms so that these creeps do not continue to exploit the innocent folks who need the medications. Price control is needed in not just the pharmaceutical sector, the food chain sector, but every other sector. Yes, price increments are a norm worldwide but price control is what keeps them from being too high. Offenders have to be punished subsequently for going above a specific price ceiling.

Don't talk what u know nothing about. What do u know about markup price in business?

Do we still have any sane Nigerians supporting this evil government?Na wah ooo
IamAtikulate:
1. Seretide, N5000 to N70,000
2. Ampiclox, from N1000 to N13,000
3. Ventolin inhaler, N2800 to N8000
4. Augmentin 625mg, N4500 to N25,000

All are GlaxoSmithKline GSK Products.

Sanofi (the makers of Tavanic 500mg & influenza vaccines ) are also planning to leave Nigeria. WHO IS NEXT IN LINE?

Nigeria moved from one relic to another. Bad misfortune; from frying pan to fire.

Nigerians are yet to fully appreciate the implications of GlaxoSmithKline GSK exiting Nigeria. When I say this, I don’t mean no Agbado (they can’t afford it). I speak of those hardworking Nigerians whose incomes & livelihoods have diminished.

You don’t have to buy Uk drugs if you can not afford them, instead of argumenting buy Fleming
There is always a cheaper alternative and most times those alternatives are even more effective
Why would you buy argument 25,000 when Fleming is 3500and infact more effective
My brother,the thing tire me!
I was even wondering if the ampiclox pack I bought 3500 is fake or the Vitamin E x 50 someone bought for ₦3k plus is just powder because the prices they are putting up there are strange.
Artemether, Lumefantrine (Antimalarial) unbranded but still effective is about 1500-2k,but I guess someone will soon come and say the price is now 15k.
In India, same drugs used in the western world are 10times cheaper.
Americans cross over to Mexico to buy drugs, same effectiveness because they are 19-20 times cheaper.
It's like going to a pharmacy in Banana Island to buy drugs when you can easily source cheaper, same effective drugs just by going to Ajah or isale Eko even if you factor in transport cost.

In summary gsk moved production to another country try cos production costs were high

They could have increased their sales cost by 100% but they chose the cowards way out ,let the importers increase their goods to x10 the former price, they don't care cos Nigerians will buy anyway

The trick is to understand how gsk appears to think, they know Nigerians will buy regardless of the price,so they export to us instead of adjusting sales cost

I think the country should quickly fund or mass import good alternatives and ban all gsk products in Nigeria,

Their sales from Nigeria is more than a lot of countries combined
Easier said than done, dis Yoruba people are just dangerous to mankind

This is the post

That's awesome!

Thanks for your insightful post... A fantastic read and it pretty much sums up why GSK left.
The Nigerian pharmaceutical companies can then move in and fill whatever void is there after NAFDAC approval. These are the kinds of useful or functional information I like to read instead of those toxic and divisive posts deliberately promoted at random by some of the younger ones promoting divisiveness on NL and other Internet platforms.

I saw one other bigot here on this thread condemning agbo and other herbal/traditional or alternative medicine after someone suggested it. I didn't bother to step into the convo because with just a simple googling, he would have realized that NAFDAC-approved trado-medical centres exist in Lagos State and a couple of states, so, the fear of taking non-standardized herbal remedies does not exist anymore. In Europe, American, and Asia, herbal medicine or alternative medicine has gained ascendancy... Nigeria and Africa must not be left behind since there is a wide diversity of plants and herbs on continental Africa.

So the latest excuse for the situation in Nigeria is that there is inflation throughout the world.

Abeg, those who are apt at online research and the diaspora please post the prices of common/household goods and the prices of over the counter medications over the past two, three, five years for comparison and let us see just how well Nigeria has been doing under this mystical government that has been doing 'very well'.

The only thing I can say here is that.... told you folks.
Democracy 101.... DO NOT RETURN A FAILED GOVERNMENT TO POWER.

There are so many reasons for this, and the principal one is simple: the people will be taken for granted.
We can see the total lack of urgency in addressing the economic situation.
The people are just left with all expectation to ADAPT.

Yes try it and thank me later, the difference is augmenting was made in uk while Fleming is India, even the one from Russia I forgot the brand is more effective than augumenting, and 800 naira satem is more effective than 3500 naira coatem
The key is,don’t park your expensive car Infront of pharmacy store otherwise they will give you 2000 naira flagyl instead of 100 naira flagyl
