Hey 🤠

Yes it is compulsory. She must fill another DS 160 where she will input the new passport number , she also will have to update her new passport number on her CGI page so that by the time she printed another appointment letter from the CGI , her new passport number would have been displayed.

1. Let her fill another DS 160 ...be certain that her passport photo is displayed at the end of the final submission.

2.Login to her CGI page , after logging in , click on update profile .... The page will take her to her bio data page ....she will see where to input the new DS 160 confirmation number as well as her new passport number . After that ..she will stroll downward towards the right side and click Save .

3. She should then log out and re login after 48 hours....the CGI page would have updated automatically. She will then have to click on my appointment and print it out . The new passport number and the new DS 160 number would display in the new Appointment confirmation.

If you aren’t comfortable with filling a new DS160 for the fear of losing your date or it getting rescheduled.
The applicant should just attend the interview with both the old and new passport. The VO will unlock the form and update new passport number.

That’s a misinformation it’s not compulsory. My moms appointment was booked with former passport and I remember coming here to ask questions that year but didn’t get an answer , two weeks before interview she renewed and I called embassy, embassy said bring both and visa was issued on new passport.

If you’re in doubt call the embassy.

There is no one size fits all timeline. Follow the instructions on the white paper you got and also monitor it on your ustraveldoc profile. You’d see when it’s gone to DHL.

What type of document?
For your interview you should go with two passport photos, ds 160 confirmation, appointment confirmation. A copy each of all. And any other document that you think will help your case.

How long will it take you to update everything in your CGI portal free of charge ??

@Debieeee or what's it call and the likes are now advising you to wait till you get to the embassy so that the VO can help you to update it 😃. What is delaying you in updating it right now .

I don’t speak on what I know nothing about unlike you. My family isn’t mediocre so they must always have a cause to go to the embassy to get their visa and I have USA citizen kids. I don’t have a track record for nonsense on nairaland I have renewed my visa multiple times with my renewal in July being the most recent. 2 years ago, I got a new passport the Friday before the Monday of my interview. Didn't know I could actually update the DS160 ( I'm not sure I even knew how then). Went to the embassy with both the old passport and the new one. Presented the old one (didn't have 3 consecutive blank pages) and during the interview the VO asked if I had a new passport, which I promptly presented. Good thing is the old passport number is annotated on the data page of the new passport.

Last year october I came to the thread to ask if anyone had a similar experience because it was my mom but I didn’t get a response, I called the embassy they told me to tell her to bring both passports and there was no issue they put the visa on the new passport. I came back to update the thread on how it worked then. Afterwards a few people posted they did same thing.

1. Check the Appointment letter in your wife's hand , which passport number is written on it ? THE OLD ONE ABI ?

2. Check her DS 160, which passport number is written there ? SAME OLD ONE ?

3. Now , your wife has renewed her passport , THE OLD PASSPORT HAS EXPIRED ... I am putting the question to you yourself , will you be comfortable if your wife go with the new passport without making sure that the NEW PASSPORT NUMBER REFLECTS ON both DS 160 and Appointment letter ?

2. After the filling follow the steps i told you by updating it .. you will smile with confidence when you see that your ..DS 160 and Appointment letter carries the same passport number , and that same (new ) passport is what you are taking to the embassy.

It's normal . In the morning of every Interview days , the expectation of the embassy is to retain your travel Passport before issuing visa , in that case they make it a policy to input the system to display the inscription..YOUR PASSPORT IS STILL WITH THE EMBASSY ...

So , if your visa is denied or approved , it will still display same until about 2 to 3 days.

Therefore, the system will rearrange itself . There is no mix up anywhere . She can go and reapply if she want . Or log out of her CGI till she has any other thing to do there again.
