Breaking: President Tinubu suspends the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, from office with immediate effect.

President directs the EFCC to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as one or more agencies thereunder.

PRESIDENT TINUBU SUSPENDS MINISTER OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION FROM OFFICE

In line with his avowed commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the management of the commonwealth of Nigerians, President Bola Tinubu suspends the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, from office with immediate effect.

The President further directs the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as one or more agencies thereunder.

The suspended Minister is hereby directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, and she is further directed by the President to fully cooperate with the investigating authorities as they conduct their investigation.

Furthermore, the President has tasked a panel that is headed by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance to, among other functions, conduct a comprehensive diagnostic on the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programmes with a view to conclusively reforming the relevant institutions and programmes in a determined bid to eliminate all institutional frailties for the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households and win back lost public confidence in the initiative.

These directives of the President take immediate effect.

That's the right thing to do. This should make the other Ministers sit up if they love their jobs.

I Love Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The right decision considering the current circumstances. Like i have always said, the federal public service is not the private sector where the CEO can do as they like. The public service is governed by laws, rules, regulations and over one thousand extant circulars. People without public service knowledge who gets appointed as ministers and heads of agencies must be extremely careful and very cooperative with the civil servants they meet on ground or else, they will run into trouble quickly.

I like Betta Edu and really wished this did not happen to her but the serious violations observed from those approvals and the fraudulent intention behind the diversion of over N500m to a private account are too much to be ignored. I hope other newly appointed political office holders would learn from her mistake. Learn the rules before approving anything. When in doubt, seek and take the advice of the more experienced civil servants. If Betty had listened to the wise counsel of the Accountant General, she won't be in this mess.

Let her remain suspended till investigation is completed. Tinubu must not tow the part of Buhari when dealing with corruption.

The challenge for Tinubu now is keeping to this template because I am pretty sure he's going to be busy with scandals and corrupt deeds of his appointees as the weeks,months and years go by.
The question is:when the corrupt deed comes nearer home or cronies,will the same sledge hammer be used or he would formulate a new standard where just the broom will be used?

There is nothing like goofing.
I bet it's the norm in other ministries,it just seems as if Beta didn't play her cards well and was trying to play holy or smart,that's why her enemies dug deep and came up with something that stuck home.
There are other ministers far more corrupt than her,using different formats to steak humongous sums from Nigeria.If they don't allow the loot to spread round,just a little digging and paying the right people for information would also unearth skeletons in their cupboards.

This is the way to go. Thanks to Tinubu for responding to public outcry. Clueless Buhari would not have bothered. Meanwhile, Dr Beta Edu is a disgrace to women. Her pretenses, corruption, lies and noise making have been exposed.
