That's not the point he is trying to prove.
He is not showing any achievement of his father.Rather, he is trying to tell us how bad Nigeria economy has become today.
That the prices of goods has been on increase exponentially within the year under reviewed without the corresponding exponential increase in income of the average Nigerians within the same period.

And that's the truth.
So stop diverting our attention from the realities.

I'm no longer surprise, why because Nigeria is structured for such to always happen.

Frankly speaking, I find nothing exciting about this country again, absolutely nothing.

As for the government of the day, it's been a tale of scepticism and distrust from the word, get go in fact when the last lying minister of information said there's nothing to campaign on as far as the umbrellas are concerned, it didn't caught me off guard and now they are in and nothing serious as expected.

That is quite childish way to look at it.
Taking into account inflation, that should be equivalent to 75k today. It was quite expensive then.
It's the earning power or salary that would tell if he was better off then or now.
If minimum wage today is say 200k,meaning a middle class civil servant will earn about 500-600k/month then 70k cement is not a bad price.
But average salary of 100-200k per month is what is making it horrible that a salary earner in the middle class can only afford 2-3bags of cement if his salary is untouched

Oga stop saying rubbish, make ur research. What USA used to sell one dollar in 1960 Is sold dsame one dollar today. It is only in Nigeria that we have economy crisis, that is why everyone is leaving Nigeria. You are the problem of this country because u always support corrupt and failure people as leaders
Richtaiwo:
Well, not by any chance supporting the current situation of the country, but this comparison no follow at all. If you go backward to let's say 1980, the cost of a bag of cement may even be less than N20. Minimum wage now is 30k, which is being reviewed. What was the average earnings in 1992? Even in the US, where you all take as model, prices of commodities in the nineties are not the same today. Global inflation is the word. As I said, I'm not by any chance supporting the current harsh situation in Nigeria but that comparison is off track.

Just by the way:
1. What is the Price of a Cement Bag in Contounoe,?
2- What is the Price of a Bag of RICE- same Benin-Republic,this Month?
3. What is the price of a bag of Beans- Benin-Republic - just for Analysis sake?

This is not correct.
Perhaps he wanted to write N7000 which amounts to N700 per bag.

N70? No.

It was N500 in 2001 so it can never be N70 in 2014.
Olodo check very well that's 1992

Them never grind beans for Nigerians, Nigerians don dey complain say akara smell don dey smell everywhere.

What will you guys do when they eventually grind and mix the beans with other ingredients, put fire and start frying the akara?

You guys should tighten your seatbelt, you all are in for a long ride.

Hmm.... aah.. Do you know the value of N700 of that time? That 700box was a lot of money bro!!! A Honda accord brand new was sold for N5,000 in 1982. A cartoon of peak milk liquid was N18.00
New Peugeot 504 is a lot cheaper than that. My Dad was the Chief Architect of my state in 1978. His salary wasn't up to 15k monthly.
It's useless comparing then and now.

Go and read up on Consumer Price Index, Types and Causes of Inflation, then you will realize the comparison is not offtrack.
"Inflation is a global phenomenon" narrative is valid, but we don't have to be the extreme case, do we?

No economy from 10 years ago have remained the same since then.....

If you can point out one thing that the price or cost have remained the same in the UK, USA, Switzerland or Canada for the past 10 years... I'll gift you 1m ASAP...

The problem with alot of us is that we are still living in the past.....

There are alot of factors responsible for the transformation over the past 10 years...

I know things are inflated in 9ja but what I don't understand is your question of whether things can go back to the way they were......

Can you go back to the way you were 10 years ago??

Here in the UK, a bag of 20kg cement sells for between 10 pounds to 18 pounds.... Convert that to naira..... Not all that glitters is gold.... Things can never go back to the way they were in 9ja.... We can only hope and pray for improvements

Then was the same amount now

Just do this little calculation

How much was your dad salary then, how much is the salary of your dad's post now and calculate how much the salary would buy the cement now and then grin
No, it's not the same.
Calculate the percentage increament of his father's salary then and now and then calculate the percentage increament of the price of that cement then and now.
You will notice that of cement increases almost on daily basis while that of salary increases almost on 5-6 years basis.
