Or
Atlas's Portfolios Limited

Thank you, it seems that the fees are more favorable when compared to Meristem.

I usually laugh when people here say the market NGX has a mind of its own.............It's all an illusion. The Stock market has no mind of its own, we are all simply dealing with the irrational behaviour of human beings, trading in the market; of which we are part of. When you expect humans to go left, they go up...and vice versa grin grin grin

To be a successful investor, you must think for yourself......and ignore whatever directions the lemmings and wildebeests are heading to because they always end up in a stampede and many get crushed. smiley When people begin to shout follow the money, they simply mean follow the herd, even if the herd is heading off the cliff.

My view of today's trade is that many people (who sold DS/NASCON to get POWER) already gave up on getting TRANSPOWER thus the funds were diverted/returned to DS and NASCON thus the resurgence.
Fewer units of TRANSPOWER on offer today makes it seem the liquidity is almost exhausted. Na to dey raise am steady 10-10% remain grin

Tomorrow will make the whole picture clearer... wink

To all the newbies always asking what stock or company should i buy? I will say this once and for all.

NOBODY can tell you what is best for you to buy/sell because they don't know where you are coming from, your risk appetite and where you are headed. I might recommend a stock to you and all i need is for that stock to move 20% so i can make N100M profit, while you will be praying for that same stock to move 100% so you can make N1Million profit.

This is why i am more inclined to discuss companies prospects and performance; rather than buy/sell recommendations.

The stock market, real estate, bonds, T-Bills, SPVs, etc are all investment vehicles..........and the sole job of a vehicle is to get you from point A to B. Now before putting a kobo in any investment vehicle, ask yourself: Where am i now? (Point A) and where am i heading to? (Point B and C). The answer to this question will form the foundation of your investment plan and goal; and will go a long way to determine the type of investment vehicle to take.

Sometimes, it may take boarding and disembarking 2 or 3 investment vehicles to get from point A to C. The timeframe of this journey, the best vehicle to take and the challenges you will face enroute your destination is what nobody can perfectly predict for you.

You will be surprised that you may quit the journey along the way or change your direction as you get older and more experienced. When i was younger and ambitious, my goal was to grow my personal paper portfolio to N1Billion.........As i grew older and experienced, i realised that the only reason i wanted a N1Billion portfolio was just for bragging rights... That excitement is all gone today.

Today, all i want is to keep my money and paper assets moving ahead of inflation.....While making sure that my hard assets are hedged against any political/economic shock; and my children are groomed to carry on the mission once my time on earth is done.

So please, do yourself a favour and start asking the right questions............ Instead of asking for what/when to buy/sell, ask for opinions on company prospects, corporate announcements and company performance based on their Financial statement and future Outlook.

Wanting to make money in the stock market is not enough fire to see you through the perils of the market. You will need a stronger goal and a solid plan to stay and grow in the game.
I get your point chairman. But I'm asking for the long term. I don't want to be a stock trader but more of a buy now and live for a considerable period of time before selling.

One chairman recommended buying stocks in companies that give dividend, but how can newbies like me know companies that give dividend before investing in them?

That's why we're seeking guidance from chairman like you. Some of our questions may sound annoying to some of you gurus in the stock investing business, but make una no vex, we be johnny just come for this stock investing mata.

So if una get some spare chance out of una busy schedules, make una dey give us some small info's so we can grow like you guys one day in this business.

Thanks for the response.

I will not join those who advise newbies that they can only get good knowledge and clarifications in this forum if they take the pain to go and start from page one and read to the latest page. That to me is unrealistic as it amounts to being asked to read close to eight thousand pages before one can correctly invest. Even those who have been on this thread right from the day it was created cannot say they still don't make mistakes in investment decisions.
What therefore matters in my own opinion is for you to just always follow this thread henceforth while occasionally searching for specific past pages on any particular information or knowledge you want. For example, of you wish to find information on, say, stocks that pay dividends consistently, just go to Google and type that in the search bar and after typing you add Nsempa Nairaland to it and it will take you to the specific pages in which such was once discussed here. That is how I scout for information on this thread.

Deadly true! Thanks so much for the courageous truth. Many members here started trading without learning from any tread, so newbies have the added advantage of being here.
The knowledge that is being acquired from day 1 of joining the tread and days afterwards in addition with your little mistakes would go a long way in developing a newbie. Experience is the best teacher.
However , newbies are advised to start Trading with little funds before attempting to aim for the big kill.
When my generation started trading a couple of decades ago, while we knew very little about stock trading and were buying through the brokers, we used to buy popular stocks like Union Bank, First Bank, etc, and were not even losing, until 2008 episode started teaching us some lessons.

Abeg chairman no vex, I just want ask you one more question:
How can we know companies that pays yearly dividend? Is there a website where we can check their yearly report before investing in their shares?
Nigerian stock exchange website,easykobo.com and simplywall website can be of help.

There are 4 business quarters in a year.In most cases; January to March is Q1(first quarter), April to June is Q2(second quarter), July to September is Q3(third quarter) and October to December is Q4(fourth quarter).

The total result from Q1,Q2,Q3 and Q4 gives rise to annual financial result.

Investopedia.com will be of profound help in stock market investing education.

You can Google search the businesses you have interest in to know if they have been profitable for like 10 years

Profitability of a business gives rise to dividend payment in most cases.

Ahhhh. TRANSPOWER actually made me look the way of anything TRANSCORP for the first time in a long time but after queuing for it for two attempts without success, I diverted the funds into IEI and have made 10% now for two consecutive days hoping to have same tomorrow thus still achieving what I would have achieved if TRANSPOWER bid had succeeded. I had already looked at IEI's results and found them to be fantastic amidst its very small Freefloat of less than 200 million.
So I am not in the TRANSPOWER cabal grin

You would have lost at least 2.6% if you had succeeded in buying TPP @ market price today, then gain10% 2mao.
If u really want TPP in your portfolio, you need to challenge your broker.
This was the step a good friend took today and was able to get 7000 units.
Tell your broker the deadly truth, the need to get your desired units through a cross deals, the no of years you have being patronising them, the success of your colleagues at other brokers, the possibility of transferring your portfolio etc
Be rest assured, u will get it.

Well, I now have this feeling that by tomorrow any successful bid for TPP will be at about N386, so even if it rallies to N1,000 to catch up with GEREGU, that will just be roughly 158% profit which IEI is likely to surpass within the same time frame. How do you see that?
