Once again, my opinion about invitation letter is that it is a document people pay so much emphasis on that in the true sense of things, not important. You have it but can’t email it to the embassy. You can’t upload it when filling your DS160. 99% of times, the VO doesn’t ask or even collect it from you to read during the interview. So why so much hullabaloo around it.
In the world of PM, you are advised to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. If you are part of the 1% at the interview, flaunt it.
As you have gotten it, it’s not wrong or a crime or even a liability in your application, but if it’s an asset is the question.
Being a participant at a conference is okay, but that won’t sway a VO. Being a Resource Person or Presenter holds more weight and most of us going for conferences are participants.
I want to assume the said letter is for a 2024 conference. Will you get an interview date before the conference date? Is this letter for getting EA or the interview proper?
USGov clearly states that EA process is not for attending conferences. See image below or read.
https://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/en/expedited-appointment
Applying for EA to get a 2024 interview date is not a crime nor is it wrong. But when your EA application is intentionally arranged to game the system, it contravenes the process as spelt out and also, it creates a new backlog for people that genuinely need EAs. The process was put in place to help people skip the interview backlog. But as Nigerians, we are running streets with the process.

Email or better still call the embassy. They will sort it for you.

Hey 🤠

1. Sir, with due respect I disagree with you with solid explanation and personal experiences.

2. On the USA embassy . The only 3 categories of people who can apply for Emergency appointment are :

* Student Emergency
...Apply with Form I 20 and Sevis fee receipt

=≈===≈≈≈====
*Medical Emergency
..... Apply with hospital letter from Nigeria and from the USA stating that the applicant need urgent medical attention.

.... Or Attending burial ceremony or repatriating a dead person back to Nigeria. (Still needs an invitation letter )
=======≈===

*Business Emergency
... Conference or going to inspect or buy goods in America .

3. I have personally gotten all these categories of emergencies and I am still getting it (not for advertising purposes) . I am following what the US embassy stipulates .

4. You don't have to plan a conference. If you are working with Psychiatric hospital and a conference on drug abuse happens tomorrow, the hospital may decide to send you there because such conference might not happen again . What you plan ahead is no more an emergency .

**** Sir , anyone who disputes the above explanation does not know how to go about it . Period .

**** B1/B2. Business and pleasure ( Conference is business // Wedding is pleasure ).

. You know the reason why I did not reply you?
You said anyone that disputes your position does not know about it.

Stop talking like that. No one knows it all. Only people with very little exposure talk like that.

I won’t go into details but no one will give you emergency appointment to attend conference.
Short training less than three months can qualify for EA technically. However, the business entity both in Nigeria and US must prove that they will lose some business opportunities unless you attend the training. It is extremely difficult to prove that with a conference. I’ve gotten emergency appointment using urgent business travel twice and it is always because I was going to do a job and my income for the job is usually around 50k dollars over 4 months period so that should tell you how important that job is to the company.

Infact, IT IS EXPRESSLY STATED THAT YOU CANT USE CONFERENCE TO GET EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT.

Stop saying only your position is correct. Learn from others . Only illiterates insist their position is always the best.

Hey 🤠

1. Not only the illiterates. Dictators like you and your gangs who doesn't want to learn also thinks that they work inside the embassies . ** Check the attached and see where the embassy talk about invitation letter but you all sings invitation letter is useless .

2. Another thing is this ; The USA embassies are wiser than you all , hence they started communicating to those who are wise enough to decode it in proverbs . ** If I have anything to go and do In the USA by October this year, let me tell you I will secure my emergency appointment under any of the listed options (I won't wait for ever like a fool for their general slot) .

3. Attending conferences in America also gives USA companies/govt huge money than the short company trainings , therefore, PROVERBIALLY they don't want to list it directly to avoid abuse. All they expect you to do is to align your invitation letter to their required outlines.

4 . You have all being sitting by the pool of Bethesda for 38 years , waiting for someone to help you . ** I will also liken you guys to someone who was served a meal inside a commercial aircraft but rejected it because she doesn't have money (she thought the food and drinks are for sell). Forgotten that flight ticket covers all.

Best Wishes 🙏

I can't find where to start a thread on this so I'll just do it here.

I'm in the US and have no green card or work papers. My dad did me wrong and didn't get my green card. I've been here the last 21 years unable to work a regular job and mostly homeless. I've decided I should just return to Nigeria so I can at least work, etc. But I have questions:

How do I go about doing this? I don't have my Nigerian passport anymore and would have to get another one. Also, who do I talk to here in the US? I want to be back where people are generally comvivial or hospitable. There are plenty of opportunities in America, but they usually come at unforeseen costs. I don't want to be here any longer as not even the churches here are willing to lend a hand. Everyone here is selfish and if you're not selfish before you come here, you will be after.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for all the helpful comments so far. Please i have a quick question:

Can i do a new DS160 form and update it or i would have to pay a new visa fee? Reason for the change - Purpose of visit has changed.
Is birth tourism a legal reason for them to consider your application?
Is it still possible to get dates before June 2024? Is there anyone that can help?
Thank you so much.

You can still get your Nigerian Passport at NY consulate. Most of the process starts online.
Going back to Nigeria is always an option but what are you going to in Nigeria? 21 years is a long time and you’d have no social support or network.
At above 21years of age, you should be responsible for your life choices and not your dad or people around.
Things are tough in the US. Things are tougher in Nigeria. There are no jobs in Nigeria too.

One final question, which state in the US are you?

Hey 🤠

*** The USA has one of the highest charities and aids in the world , and its citizens despite being funny at times are one of the most friendliest . But i won't argue some of your complaints above .

1. If you were taken to the US as a kid and facing the ordeal as narrated , then it seems you have not being rolling with correct people .

2. You can actually obtain a PR under DACA ( Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). It is a program in the United States that was established to protect eligible undocumented immigrants who came to the country as children from deportation. ** It does not provide a path to citizenship, but it does offer temporary relief from deportation and the ability to work legally in the United States.

3. If you are hell bent in coming back to your fatherland , fine. But you have to visit the Nigerian consulate in NYC or DC for your NIN and Nigerian passport.

4. Why not talk to a guidance counsellor (first ) & Immigration Attorney (later) ?

Hey 🤠

1. You can fill DS -160 and update it as many times as you want . It won't affect your current visa appointment.

2. If you meant you want to use your B2 visa to give birth in the USA why not if you do it in a legal way ? You have to declear it in your applications and must have contacted a reputable hospital of your choice in the USA.

3. Have it in mind that Paying for a U.S. hospital birth is extremely expensive If you don’t have U.S. insurance and be sure you travel before you get too close to your delivery date or the airline will tell you that you’re too heavy (pregnant) to fly.

4. You may qualify for an Emergency Appointment (under medical emergency) if you provide appropriate documents to support your application .

Hey 🤠

** Look at the opinions of people who want to dominate Nairaland ?? Adding salt to the injuries of a distressed individual .

1. I read the comment of @spanishmilf and walked away , knowing that he is only good in selling stolen iPhones and other gadgets . He put iPhone 11 for sell at 250k (NGN) in this same Nigeria he is condemning as a suffering nation .

2. To my surprise , @fealessfang came up with the above opinion , rusbishing Nigeria to a nation where someone coming from the United States cannot even make it . Is that the advice you will give any wealthy Americans who is willing to come and establish in Nigeria??

3. The OP is as good as an American because he has lived all his life (perhaps in American streets) the way he narrated as a result of parental failures . I knew he needed the help of a Clinical Psychologist (because he might also be doing drug) but I did not want to sound insulting, hence i twisted it to a guidance counselor .

4. Here you are making jest of him and making fools of yourselves ( @fealessfang and @spanishmilf ) that he would suffer in Nigeria where people are still building mansions in Lekki, Magodo, buying expensive cars , and sending their children to Covenant University , American University of Nigeria , UnilaG etc and where business managers are still acquiring properties .

5. Truthfully. There is inequalities in the distribution of opportunities and wealth in Nigeria as a result of (some of) our past leaders failures . Yet Nigeria is still a wealthy nation with good population to succeed in reasonable businesses . God Bless Nigeria .

Google I-94 log in using your details (passport number, last name & date of. Birth) and you’ll see your enter and exit details from the last ten years regardless of whether you changed passports or not on the last ten years.
