There's nothing wrong with the prices of things in the South. Southern Nigeria is extremely enterprising and understands the value for goods and services (industry). Nobody deserves to be poor. Everyone deserves to be well paid for whatever they produce or sell.
everyone there is rich i think...remove yahoo from livelihood in south!

They produce more food up North and that is why food stuffs are comparably cheaper in the North.

The food stuffs are transported up South and the cost of petrol/diesel makes makes the foodstuffs more expensive. For those you you complaining about South east being greedy. It is not so. I have lived in both Northv( kaduna, Jos, Nasssrawa, Abuja) Southeast ( Enugu, Anambra, Imo), South west ( lbadan and lagos) and Southsouth ( portharcourt and Bayelsa). North produces more food and there is no money there compared to the southern region. Most Of the food in the South are sourced from the North. So it is natural that food stuffs be more expensive up South.

15 years ago, that yam the op posted here in not up to 300 naira in Wasa, Nasarawa state or in Gwantu, kaduna state.
lol there is no money there, isn't that funny...you can't compared a region of yahoo enterprises with normal working region!

You are misquoting me.

I never said there is no money there!

I said there is more money in the South than North.

How much are government teachers paid up North compared to the south?

How much is a local government staff paid up North compared to the South?

How much is house rent up North compared to South?
The South has more purchasing power than the North andcit is a fact. Reason why things are cheaper over there plus the fact they produce nore agriculture wise.

The Northerners are mostly farmers which is good and they have plenty expanses of lands too.

Stop making everything political.

I love the North more than the South if not for the religious crisis prevalent up there.

Yahoo boys no dey North? Dem full for North!

Hello nairalanders, I'm from Eastern Nigeria (Anambra state) pricisely. Was born and brought up in the north, Niger State!

I don't really know why things are too expensive in the southern part of Nigerian than the north.

I don't even like coming home sometimes (east) due to the unnecessary high cost of living in the southern region.

Everybody is just so greedy and selfish. Especially how I read here on nairaland.

If not for terrorism and banditry, here is one of the major part of the country where the poor can actually live their lives and train their children.

Below are some of the prices of commodities in my local community.

1. this plate of rice is #500

2. This yam was bought from one of my mom's customers for #4,000

3. This fufu and egusi soup is #600

4. The Yam in the fourth picture was bought for #12,000

I have a lot of images to upload and their prices but nairaland is telling me that I have exceeded limit of image upload. Don't know how this site works properly
Please can you help get some basic food stuff expecially the yam and send to me in ikorodu lagos, or any location of your choice in lagos?

There are places in the east where you will buy something close to that concoction you called food for less than 300 a plate but only students and some apprentice will eat that rubbish in the East. Nobody will buy that concoction from you in the east aside students

Go to ESUT back gate in Enugu you will find more than 30 women selling something close every evening and it's less than 300 naira a plate.

Southeasterners control 70% of the market in lagos, across all sectors. Remove foreign investors. So clearly southeastern determine market value. If the southerners decides to drop prices. Others would automatically do the same. But if other regions drop theirs. The southerners would still sell even if it's at a high price, because most of these other regions source goods from south easterners. And these southeastern have goods flooded in the market. South eastern determine prices. Do you know how many successful manufacturing companies owned by the southerners are in lagos. Most companies owned by other indigenous regions within food production are not as successful as the easterners.
The assumed 70% control of the markets in Lagos State is highly debatable. But, then again, do you have any sources or references for that 70% assertion?

There's NO way that the dominant and enterprising Yoruba wholesale and retail traders (of Ijebu, Ijesa, Egba, Awori, Ede, Igbomina, Ibadan, and other countiguous areas) including those from Hausaland, Edo, Ebiras, and Nupe would be behind the tribe from the South East in the control of trading activities in Lagos markets.
Many of the large containers that land with raw materials, construction materials, semi-finished goods, and more in the Lagos Ports are largely imported by businesses owned by Lebanese, Chinese, Yorubas, Edo, etc, meant for the big manufacturing industries in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo (especially Ibadan), and the Lakaji route (Lagos/Kano/Jibia route) which is the busiest trading route in Nigeria according to several international trade groups and Chambers of Commerce in Nigeria. Some people ignorantly and FALSELY think that all imported containers are brought in by Ibo traders which is FALSE based on Hadiza Bala-Usman's Punch newspaper interview a few years ago about the final destination of containerized goods from the Lagos Ports.
