My guys, I just gave a sell order for my afriprud shares. This is because of the controversial rights issue.
I don't want them taking me by surprise by telling me the right was concluded on 26th and listing same, dt will crash the price. On the other heand if what they meant by close of register is that the rights will be sold to shareholders as at 26th, ill buy my rights.

My prospect is that ubacap has just two days to hang his head and it may hold its 1.20 level but this point should be neglected unless it break down close to 1.10 due to the nature of the market.

If I understood you correctly, yes if you exercised your rights it should be added to the number of units previously held by you and the number of shares in issue of the company should increase by the number of newly issued shares.

It is already in the region but I don't think it is ready to fall so soon. The stock don vex no be small... I will wait for it to retrace back so that I can enter. But I don't know if the stock is now ready to trade as a normal stock by moving away from its previous stagnant price range. Following Stockbull's prediction, I think I will wait for the second rally before deciding whether to enter or not.

Current NSE trend:
1. The bulls rule 1st six months of the year. (company results, dividends and bonuses)
2. The bears rule 2nd six months of the year. (Strategists and profit takers milking the NSE, lamido's -tive policies taking effect).

I could be wrong though.

@ Ella, I bought eterna at a very high price.I don't know if d crr is affecting it the most(high loan portfolio). Eterna taught me a very big lesson. Try and position b4 any bull rally or else others could be dumping the stock on u.After every strong rally, there is usually retracement so wait. Also observe cycles- year high, year low, support and resistance points.

A quick way to know what u are buying using all these results posted on NSE, other than the Annual report is this:

(1) First U will need to know what kind of investor u are. Short term or long term? People usually say for long term, price doesn't matter. But price does to help u maximize ur gains and minimise ur losses. (2) If u want to buy a stock amongst these lists of stocks for example:

Year End results shown on SMN-NSE Stock A(insurance) O/S=2b units; current price=N2; Turnover(2010)=N5.8b, Turnover(2009)=N3.6b,PBT(2010)=N2.5b, PBT(2009)=N1.1b, PAT(2010)=N2.1b, PAT(2009)=N700m,Net asset(2010)=N9b,Net asset(2009)=N7b. Dividend(2009)=15kobo, Dividend(2010)=50kobo.

Stock B( Maritime) O/S=6b units; current price=N1; Turnover(2010)=N12b, Turnover(2009)=N10b,PBT(2010)=N4b, PBT(2009)=N6b, PAT(2010)=N3.5b, PAT(2009)=N5.2b,Net asset(2010)=N48b, Net asset(2009)=N51b. Dividend(2009)=50kobo, Dividend(2010)=20kobo.

Stock C( Banking) O/S=28b units; current price=N20; Turnover(2010)=N120b, Turnover(2009)=N110b,PBT(2010)=N50b, PBT(2009)=N45b, PAT(2010)=N40b, PAT(2009)=N35b,Net asset(2010)=N200b, Net asset(2009)=N196b. Dividend(2009)=75kobo, Dividend(2010)=100kobo.

Stock D( Oil and Gas) O/S=12b units; current price=N80; Turnover(2010)=N220b, Turnover(2009)=N180b,PBT(2010)=N18b, PBT(2009)=N15b, PAT(2010)=N10b, PAT(2009)=N11,Net asset(2010)=N120b, Net asset(2009)=N110b. Dividend(2009)=50kobo, Dividend(2010)=45kobo.

Stock D( Oil and Gas) O/S=12b units; current price=N80; Turnover(2010)=N220b, Turnover(2009)=N180b,PBT(2010)=N18b, PBT(2009)=N15b, PAT(2010)=N10b, PAT(2009)=N11,Net asset(2010)=N120b, Net asset(2009)=N110b. Dividend(2009)=50kobo, Dividend(2010)=45kobo.

Looking at these examples,U can easilycalculateEPS,PE ratios,Book Value(BV), dividend yields using the formulae EPS= PAT/(O/S); PE= Current price/EPS;BV=Net Assets/(O/S); Dividend Yield= Current Dividend /Current price * 100%.

Note O/S is outstanding shares; PBT= Profit Before Tax; PAT=Profit After Tax.

Stock A: Current EPS=N1.05, Current PE=1.9,BV=N4.5,dividend yield=25%

Stock B: Current EPS=N0.583, Current PE=1.7,BV=N8,dividend yield=20%

Stock C: Current EPS=N1.43, Current PE=14, BV=N7.14,dividend yield=5%

Stock D: Current EPS=N0.833, Current PE=96, BV=N10,dividend yield=0.5%

What to do:

(1) Look at the 4 stocks and screen based on PE. The one with low PEs pass. So I expect U to pick stock A and stock B. (2)Then u look critically at stock A and B (based on the results above as shown on SMN-NSE). Look at dividend yields of both. If I buy A now at the current price, I will hold A for 4 years assuming that they keep paying the same dividend and at the end of the 4 years, I will almost have the capital I used in buying A. But if I buy B, I will have to hold 5 years based on the dividend. This then calls for ur investment period. How long are u ready to hold seeing such juicy dividend yield!? (3) Still looking at the dividend, u will seethatforA,there is more than a 200% increase in the dividend paid in 2010 and the one paid in 2009. For stock B,there is 150% decrease in dividend paid in 2010 and that paid in 2009.U may start thinking that stock A is better. (4) Using analysis based on book value(BV), U will find out that while stock A is trading at N2, stock B is at N1. But the worth of the company A is N4.50 whiletheworth of company B is N8. At this point, If U buy A at its current price, then U are paying N2 for a company worth N4.5. That is 125% discount! However buying B would mean that u are paying N1 for a comapny worth N8. And that is 700% discount.

The question now is which will u buy? Many things will be considered before buying either A or B or even C.

This which I have explained is the quickest way to analyze a stock before buying. That is for a layman.

But seasoned investors on SMN don't do this. They sleep with the annual report. It takes them time to analyze the annual report and then come up with what to buy. They look at the debts, receivables, turnover, management, cost control measures and everything about the balance sheet. They even compare years of each report before buying. And that is for the seasoned investors.

Other SMN members could help explaining more to U.

Enjoy!

It is noted Ma, eterna also taught me a very big lesson some years ago. I am just trying to deliver my return match to the stock. I am only dealing on this stock because of capital appreciation and nothing else. The stock no get any better thing wey e fit offer me for now- not a good dividend/bonus stock but may be good for taking profit and dumping later on.

I don't see anything good about it. It will be a waste of my money to buy the stock for long term. Na to chop and clean mouth I dey for the stock. I have been trading on it for some time now and making good profits. Once I make a reasonable profit I sell off immediately. The stock is almost a disappointment to shareholders.
