'I'm all ears, Jordan'
Jordan sat facing his father. He explained to him Tara's condition and the doctor's instruction. He told him how Amanda had barged in on him and Tara without knocking nor apologizing to them. He also explained the magazine and the events that followed.
'Jordan, Amanda called to tell me that Tara slapped her. Is it true?'
'It is dad, knowing Tara as I do, she wouldn't just slap Amanda. I think Amanda must have said or done something to provoke Tara'
'Jordan, your mother invited Amanda here for whatsover purpose I don't know. She is a guest here. You know better than to rise your hands on a lady. I bought you up better than that. Now, you owe Amanda an apology. Can you just do it for your mother? She looked so sad out there'
'No, I can't dad. Do you know what I have to endure from Amanda? I think she should apologize to me'
'Jordan?'
'No dad, I am no longer a child. Please don't insist I apologize to her. Infact, why is mother so bend on keeping her here?'
'I can't tell, but you know she is now your employee, don't you?'
'Can't you just transfer her to another state?'
'No, we can't Jordan and you have to apologize to your mother'
'I will, but my stay in this house is coming to an end. Tara and I will soon move out'
'you are going nowhere, Jordan'
'Father, I am not asking for permission. I'm just passing an information'
Father and son stared at each other. Each tried to read the other's mind.
'I can't keep you here against your wish but you should know that leaving this house will break your mother's heart. Justin had made it clear he is not interested in the construction company. He has disappeared to Lagos. Mitch is studying abroad. I'm hardly at home, you're always here to keep her company. Now that Tara is pregnant, a small child in the house will reduce her loneliness. Just know that Amanda won't stay here forever'
Jordan remained unspoken. He gawked at his father.
'Jordan, runing away from your problem will not solve it. I'm tired son, i'm going to bed'
'Welcome home dad', His father only smiled.

Anthony Joseph had been wallowing in guilt since the reading of his mother's will. Anna was no longer available for him to seek her forgiveness. Her death had hurt him deeply because he had still loved her. He married Henry's mother because his mother had insisted. There was no love lost between them. He had been living a boring and miserable life until he had met Anna.
She was much younger than him, intelligent, beautiful with a sense of humur. Anthony had fallen head over heels inlove with her. She made him felt alive again. It came with a suprise when she announced that she was pregnant. Anthony had told her to abort it. When she refused, he decided to take his chance with her. Afterall, he loved her. When her father threw her out, Anthony gladly took her home to his mother-that was his mistake.
He had planned to divorce his wife and marry her in court. He had gotten a lawyer and had started the proceedings secretly. Anthony had just sealed a business deal one evening. The banks were closed and he decided to keep the money at his mother's for the night. He returned the next day to find Anna and the money gone. When he asked his mother, she made it clear she knew nothing about any money left in the house.
'If you can't find it, then Anna must have taken it', His mother had said.
At that time, their company was just growing. Two million naira was a huge lost to the company. He had looked for Anna without success. It was his mother who had reported the matter to the police. A stn was placf on her head but she was never found. The two million naira lost nearly sent them out of business. Anthony had to sell his car and the other house they had to return the money. Things became difficult. His mother had adamantly refused to help him out. He had to start from the scratch again.
His love for Annabel transformed to hate. The only thing that had kept him going was revenge. Now, after all he did for her, she had been innocent. His mother had left Tara rich. He had never imagined that his mother would leave anything for Anna's daughter. He was shocked when before her death, his mother told him to go and get his daughter in Kaduna. She had known where Anna was all the time but had remained unspoken. After her death, her lawyers insisted that if Anthony couldn't find Tara, his mother's shares will go to a distant relative. He had set out for Kaduna with revenge in his mind.
One thing Tara was yet to know was that she has another inheritance. Something bigger than what his mother left her. This inheritance, combined with his mother's will make Tara one of the youngest millionaires in Nigeria. He wondered what was delaying everything.

Tara and Jordan arrived in time for breakfast. The parents and Amanda were already seated.
'Good morning, father', Tara greeted her father-in-law.
'Morning Tara. I heard you've not been feeling well. How are you now?'
'I'm better sir', she answered. Turning to her mother-in-law, she said, 'mother, goodmorning'
'How are you feeling today?'
'better'
Tara helped herself to a seat.
'Goodmorning Amanda', She said cheerfully, Amanda ignored her.
Tara smiled briliantly at her husband who had just finished greeting his parents. Amanda ignored Jordan too. He poured cornflakes into a glass cup, added some milk and sugar before handing it ouer to her.
'Thanks', She murmured.
It was saturday and Jordan had promised to remain with her. Edward Nicholas cleared his throat.
'I want you all to listen carefully. I will not tolerate any more squabbles in this house. Clear whatever differences you have among you.
Jordan, learn to control your anger and never you hit anyone again. Amanda, I will advice you to stay away from Jordan and his wife, Tara, you too should stay away from Amanda... You all should...', Amanda cut him short.
'No, Tara must apologize to me'
'Amanda, never you interrupt me again. Are you so mannerless?'
Amanda saw that Edward Nicholas wasn't a man to be taken for granted, she wisely kept quite.
'Now, Tara, why did you slapped Amanda?'
Tara, looking down on her empty cup, explained what had happened on that day.
'Both of you ladies are wrong. Amanda, you have no right whatsover to slap Tara. Tara, it is wrong of you to slap her back', Edward told them off.
'we will be going on our annual vacation within the week. Tara, you are in charge. I want you all to live peacefully with each other'
'yes father', Amanda and Tara answered.

* * *
Amanda opened a bottle of brandy. She has goodnews for herself. Since the parents would be travelling for a whole month and Jordan would definately go to work, Tara and Amanda would have the house all to themselves.
'Tara, you wait and see. Your tears will begin flowing. By the time I'm done with you, even Jordan won't recognise you'
Amanda celebrated as she began laying down her perfectly organized plans.

He wasn't on duty today but he was unhappy. Joel paced round the house. It was becoming increasingly difficult for him. He saw her everywhere he went, including his dreams.
'Why didn't I find her before Jordan did?'
Joel already knew that in his line of work, he wasn't allowed to get emotional with a patient. No one needed to tell him to wash his hands off her case and allow someone else do it.
'No, I won't be able to bear another person handling her'
'Why are you talking to yourself?', Maureen walked to him with a magazine in her hands.
'Joel, look what I found. My jordan married into the family of thieves'
'What are you saying?', he asked her.
'I think he might divorce her. Jeez, she doesn't deserve him. She isn't even a graduate and she is so short and thin', Joel glared at her.
'I shall have to punish you Maureen should you fail this examination again. You had better pass, for your own good!'
Maureen murmured something about trying her best. She had registered for the West African Eyaminations Council last year and had failed woefully. Joel had to enroll her in a lesson and re-registered her to write the exams this year.
'I tried my best'
'your result will proof that, now hand over the magazine', Maureen did and reluctantly left.
Their parents died in a gastly motor accident five years ago. Joel found himself saddled with a teenager. He picked the magazine and read through.
'Jordan had better hide these from Tara'
In the magazine, Tara Nicholas life was revealed. It said she was the bastard daughter of Anthony Joseph, her mother had stolen huge amount of money from a wealthy man and had spent the better part of her life runing away from the law.
Tara was portrayed as a social climber who had done God knows what to make Jordan marry her. It was said that her marriage was not a happy one. Afterall, Jordan married her because she was carrying his child. So many horrible things were said about her.
No one needed to tell Joel that the publishers of this gossip paper had only one goal in mind; to destroy Tara Nicholas.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Dedicated to our new found mother, DoroCute. I'm so happy for you dear. Please train her well and insert in her the fear of the lord. Congratulations.

'We now have the house to ourselves, Tara', Jordan said as he pulled her into his arms. The parents had just left for the airport.
'Amanda is still here and will soon start working with you'
Tara didn't like that idea at all, but she had no say in the matter.
'Forget Amanda, just avoid and ignor her', Jordan kissed her. She moaned into his mouth.
'I know of so many ways to make you forget her', he told Tara mischeviously.
'I'm equal to the task', she replied with a grin.

* * *
Tara slowly opened her eyes. She felt wonderful. Jordan had made sure he made her felt wonderful. She glanced at the clock. It was already half past ten. She quickly sat up. She had promised to prepare breakfast for Jordan! She swung her right leg on the rug when she saw a white paper by her bedside drawer. She picked it and read it out loud;
'I'm already off to work. Couldn't bear waking you from your peaceful slumber. I guess I over worked you last night (laughs) well, my breakfast will have to wait for another day. Don't forget to eat well, you need your strength. Bye, my sweet'
He signed it with his name. Tara giggled. She planned to stay indoor today then visit Shan the next day. She went for a bath, returned with a towel around her to find Amanda in the room.
'what do you want?'
'Just thought to tell you goodmorning and to remind you that its almost 11am and you are still asleep'
'leave this room'
'And if I refused?'
Tara ignored her. She sat on a stool by the dressing mirror.
'you know, you are shameless Tara. You pretend to be innocent, yet you slept around with Jordan before marriage. Look at you, ten weeks pregnant when your marriage is barely seven weeks. You are the talk of town'
'Amanda leave my room'
'you are silly Tara, Jordan and I are lovers. He will soon get tired of you. Is not as if you satisfy him'
'Jordan is your lover, but never you forget that I am also the one he comes home to every evening and I am the one he shares his bed with. You are just his mistress Amanda, nothing more'
Amanda raised her hand to slap Tara. Tara prevented her by holding the hand midway. Amanda struggled to get free but couldn't. She had never thought Tara possessed such amount of strength. Tara's towel came loosed and fall at a pool around her legs. Amanda stared at Tara who stood in her unclad glory.
'Never you rise your hands on me again. Now leave this room'
Amanda gawked at Tara's fair smooth body. Her eyes travelled to her full firm bossom down to her flat stomach and small wait. How could someone be so perfect? Amanda thought in anger. Tara let go of Amanda's hand.
'Now leave'
Amanda shrugged and walked angrily to the door.
'oh Amanda', Tara called out sweetly.
'you no longer need to tell me wether or not I satisfy my husband sexually. I know the answer to that equation', Tara's tone changed and became serious.
'If you wish to dare me, mistakenly enter this room again'.
It wasn't until Amanda had angrily bangged the door tha Tara picked the towel. Her body was shaking in anger and fear. She had seen the look in Amanda's eye. If looks could kill, Amanda would have killed her already. She had to make plans on how to throw Amanda out of the house. Amanda was dangerous. She could wager her right leg that she was right about her. Tara made a mental note to always lock their door whenever Jordan was not home. She thought of Shan. Was she making the right decision about bringing her to live with them?
Henry was hardly at home and would therefore not put an eye on her. Shan needed a mother to tell her off, direct her and instruct her. That mother was Tara. She had to do it. Tara dressed, walked downstairs for breakfast. After breakfast, she locked herself in the room and soon began sleeping.

'Any plan for tomorrow?', Jordan asked Tara during dinner.
'Wish to go pick Shan from Henry's'
'I want to introduce you to my employees tomorrow. Can you delay picking Shan?'
Tara, although would love to see where Jordan worked, she found herself reluctant to go.
'Is there a problem?', her husband asked her.
'Its just that, I don't know how your employees will treat me. I'm neither deaf nor blind, I've heard what is being said about me. Do you think I deserve you?', she asked her husband with a frown.
'Tara, I believe I am the lucky one here, do you know how much you and Shan have changed me? You make me feel responsible. Most importantly, although you have the habit of making me angry, you also have all it takes to put smiles on my face'
Tara laughed out loud and Jordan found himself enjoing the sound of it.
'so now, are we going tomorrow to see that place I spend a better part of my day?'
'Let me remind you that i'm starting work tomorrow',Amanda said as she walked into the room.
'I'm not stopping you. I'm I?', Jordan asked her.
Amanda sat down on a chair. She glared openly at Tara. Tara had not told Jordan the events that had occured between she and Amanda earlia in the day. She simply did not wish to bother him.
'Tara, finish eating lets go up. I have something important in mind', his eyes sparkled in excitement. Tara looked scornfully at him but her eyes lit with joy.
'Both of you are shameless. Jordan, I'm starting work tomorrow, you should be there to introduce me around. Don't you think Tara's visiting where you work should be procrastinated?', Amanda disdainfully spite out.
'you must be very desperate Amanda. My wife is my priority. As for you, be careful how you talk to me. I WOn't warn you again'
He went on his feet. Tara followed suit. Hand in hand, they climbed the stairs to their room.
'Tara, Can you swim?'
'No'
She had always looked at the swimming pool at the back of the house in facination. No one seemed to have time for it. Although she would have loved to learn how to swim, she had never thought of asking Jordan for help.
'when next you go to the hospital, ask Doctor Joel if its okay for you to swim. If it is, your lessons will begin immediatelly'
'it had better be', Tara said as jordan pulled her into his willing arms.

* * *
'Tara, come on, its morning already', Jordan patted her cheeks. She came awake almost immediately.
'oh mime, you are all dressed up'
she said as she realized that he had bathed and was putting on a black suit with a pink shirt. Tara jumped from the bed and ran to the bathroom for a bath. She came out five minutes later with a towel. While Jordan walked downstairs for his breakfast, Tara quickly dressed in an ankle length black gown. She chose a pair of two inches red peep toe shoes. She carefully applied make-up on her face and combed her long brazillian weave- on.
'you are beautiful my sweeet'
'thanks', she replied.
* * *
They arrived at the company by 9:20am. Eyes followed them as they climbed the elevator to the 5th floor. Tara tried hard not to stare at the place. She had always thought that beautiful places like this only exist in movies. The doors and windows were made up of glasses. Every corner was spotlessly clean. Not even a dust could be seen anywhere.
'wow', Tara thought out loud, Jordan only laughed . The stopped at a corridor. Tara saw so many people, elegantly dressed, going in and out of offices.
'good morning, sir. Good morning ma'
The goodmornings kept coming until they reached Jordan's office.
'Good morning sir', A tall slim woman of about thirty five greeted them
'Vicky, meet my wife Tara'
'good morning ma. Its nice meeting you'
'My pleasure', Tara answered her.
'Tara, this is Victoriah, she is my secretary'
Tara smiled brilliantly at the woman. Jordan led her into his fully polished office.

* * *
Amanda had been looking for the right time. God had just provided her with one. Someone had shown her Jordan's office. This would be the best place to poison her. There were so many people and finding the culprit would be difficult. Now she had to wait for the opportunity. There was no way that Tara, who had not eaten breakfast at home, won't order for food to eat. The time has come.
