You also have a point but tolerance can go both ways

He also doesn't av a point, it isnt abt Christians or Muslims bt abt d Nigerian languages. There's no Christian language on any Naira note so y d arabic? The three major tribal languages re written to help pple knw hw much they're holding n then, d English equivalent is also put to help d general citizenry. There's isnt any justification for d arabics on our Naira notes.

@bolded that is the point! Just because they aren't comfortable with the Arabic inscription doesn't means it should be removed. In the same currency all the other languages are written signifying the worth of the naira e.g Nàírà Méwàà, Naira Iri and Naira Goma. Notice both the Yorubas and Igbos write in Latin alphabet. If the Hausas preferred to write their language in Arabic alphabet why stop them?

was a referendum done to say Hausas prefer the arabic to hausa? will the berom, tiv, jukun man prefer arabic? i fear you are generalising o.

meanwhile, CBN/FG owes it to us, to give reasons why the arabic inscriptions were removed.

i think this is part of the bigger question of Arabic becoming an official language. The analogy with english doesnt hold cos english is our first official language and is not a christian language in any way. hebrew, latin yes. english no.

No ethnic group wrote the naira. Each ethnic group is represented in English.

Nigeria has more than 200 languages, Every group should have their language inscribed on the naira notes, is time for the north to know and accept the truth that they are not the owner of Nigeria, no body is ready to follow them and go back to the stone age of the Arabic people

He doesnt av any point. The hausa translation of d amount is always written along side yoruba n ibo e.g Niara Ashinrin. Y then d Arabic inscription again, is d hausa nt enough for them read n know dat its 20naira? Is Arabic d new hausa language?

The fact that all suicide bombers r one way or the other linked to it , is even the more reason we should get rid of it !

Regardless of the bigot laden statements so far on the thread, this remains the main reason why Ajami was used on the naira note, CAN is really working though, through ignorance,it is raising the next generation of lord resistance army fighters, who rather than demand good governance would prefer finding new fronts to fight Muslims. Any nation where people put bigotry and fanaticism before tolerance is doomed to be stagnated.
Are you talking about tolerance here? tolerance by who? muslims or christians? who is actually showing tolerance here? Look christians' resilience has even been overstretched and am scared it may break soon and only God knows what will happen. Or are you not seeing for yourself?

That means we may need to remove symbols like wigs used by judges in court, also, we should remove the eagle symbol in the coat of arms because they all have roots in the church.

It's only because the Muslims from the north think them own the land and so feel threatened by the removal of the inscription which bears no consequences on the majority of we'll meaning Nigerians. We already have the Hausa language on our currency I seriously wonder what the fuss is about. No doubt, BH is gaining more followers than I thought.

Seun and mods

Correction: It is not an 'islamic' script but an arabic script which makes it easier for the uneducated who can read the arabic to identify the note. That was the wisdom behind the script.

The script itself has nothing to do with islam.

Not everything should be viewed with the religious eyes. I believe the Ajami script was on the old Nigerian pound before the it was changed to naira. And it represents the indigenous writing language before the arrival of the Brits.

The Ajami script was a west African writing language, and I think it originated from Timbuktu in the mid century. Also, the Hausas have written documents in Ajami dating back to the 18th century or so. So I don't see why you lot have a problem with an indigenous way of writing to be honest.

I might be wrong but a lot of you have got ya priorities wrong.

Most Hausa would probably learn Ajami before english, most no english at all!

Leaving the Ajami on the naira would preserve the writing system from extinction!

fail!
Denominations are identified by the design and arabic numerals on them, no one would pick up the naira and read the letters on it, no one reads ''one hundred naira'', but identifies '100', Awolowo and the reddish tint of the note.

How would not having an inconsequential phrase on the Naira make Aljami go extinct?

I know that English is our national language.
Some state governments have also adopted indigenous languages as official languages in their states.
However, i am not sure any state has adopted Arabic as an official language.
If none of the federating states/ethnic groups has adopted Arabic as an official language, do you not find it funny that Arabic is adopted, from the backdoor, as an official national language?

What is funny, is your threatening people about the use of Arabic in Nigeria.
What else can you do to the people of Alakio?
Shock statement.now name one state who adopted Arabic as its official language in Nigeria.

The essence of the currency is for people to use it, if you make it difficult for a good part of the people it is meant for to identify and use it, then you have only proven to be myopic.

I also find it funny that the opponents of the Arabic script are motivated by hate and to a lesser extent fear. Removing the scripts will not change their fear or reduce their hate. I find it amusing as a result.
