On the contrary, it seems people on this thread are getting castigated for not kneeling.

@ Are you shocked by something I said?

Pardon me for contradicting myself smiley but its a complex issue, it has nothing to do with culture though.

Yeah you make the very essence of kneeling sound 'ridiculous', like it will diminish your character.

I'm indifferent about the whole issue tbh and I wouldn't want anybody kneeling to apologise to me.

That's what they do not get. They feel its demeaning.

I'd say it has everything to do with culture, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on how it doesn't.

That's because it is...to me. I'm sure some of that stems from culture as well.

Yes bro.
Heck its not even an African thing per se
Don't people kneel before the Pope or kneel to be knighted by the Queen?

So it becomes demeaning when its your partner involved or what.

I prefer your method to kneeling. Bedroom is the best consolation. Especially when it is spicy.

This discussion involves partners or spouses, and I don't know of any african culture that insists you must kneel before your husband/wife.

The topic says would you kneel to apologise to your husband/wife.

I cant kneel down to apologize. I can still kneel and pretend to be remorseful. isn't it berra I sit or berra still stand and apologise ad know I did it with my heart?? nnaa eh biko noro one side ka m fu uzo!

You are right. It all depends on individuals. Myself, I hate anybody to kneel down to apologize to me no matter their offence.

Why must my wife kneel down to apologize to me. You woman should be your friend and partner and there are better ways to apologize. Someone can kneel down to apologize while pretending to be remorseful.

We all should be liberal and shouldn't see women as a tool to be used. Remember we men come from our mothers. Respect should be reciprocal. Unless you did not marry your true woman , but a slave.

let me quote bible to the ladies now.

1 peter 3:1-6.

1 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. 3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.

three days ago, I got upset with my girlfriend over an issue and I was shocked when she went on her knees and appologised to me..... My heart skipped a beat and I immediately swore NEVER to see her in that position again.... I felt so angry with myself for letting her beg me to that point.... I cried cos of that..... I've done that to apologise to her a couple of times but I dont ever want her offence or whatever to make her kneel before me..... Its not just right....

Understand this; the above did not state that the woman should kneel down to apologize to their husbands. A woman can respect her husband and there are better ways of doing that. Herein, must she kneel down and be apologizing? Apology must come from the inner mind and one must notice the remorse been expressed by the person, with no pretense. I do remember when my mother would tell me to kneel down and apologize to my sister and I would grudgingly do that knowing fully well that the apology was not from my heart.

Fawkes, if a custom is practiced to a level in a country, or by a certain group(s) in that country, it will certainly have a different tint to it for anyone outside those groups/countries/cultures where that practice isn't found. Yes, the question involved spouses and partners, but it's also based on a cultural and societal practice. If the question was on praying-mantis-style Chinese bowing, and the OP asked "would you do this for your spouse?", the responses would reflect the outlandish view of it from the outsider masses i.e NL'ers.

That's the beauty of culture.

Ok agreed.
Guess you don't like the culture then since its kinda alien to you.
I haven't gone through the comments so I don't know where the opinion of NLers swings.
