This week was very interesting. Zenith and GTB caused a stampede on the floor. But there is yet one more banking stock that will shake the market when results are declared. I see dividend yield of close to 20% at current price. By the time results are declared on this one, the stampede will be uncontrollable. The share price may as well triple b4 the dividend pay date. I have spoken in parables so please do your due diligence on this one. Happy investing. cool

Are you by any means referring to that bank whose entire body has been consumed but left with only the head? You think they can match GTB and Zenith bank by paying N1.75(20%) dividend?

@all, don't mind these comedians @ megainvest and myjoyo8. They love raising hopes unnecessarily and rely so much on false hope. why don't you ask them to share their loss statistics on NSE with you in that last 3 months? For Newbies, pls trade carefully and not chase a fast moving train.

What is the big deal in sharing +ve forward statement on this blog (I'm 100% sure they don't know jack abt the direction of NSE) if indeed they have info on the particular stock that will post better fig than the duo of Zenith and GTB than putting newbies (experienced guy won't bother anyway) on unhealthy sentiment.

I do my analysis myself and follow my mind. If you make gain or Loss, you'll definitely be happy dealing this way

For me, I'll pick Fidelity, FCMB and Skye ahead of FBNH at current prices. I expect a better price performance from them than FBNH.

I think there is a bank though it a mid-tier bank, they have the same model of operation with gtb, though i called this bank "little Gtbank "this is the fourth year i have been looking at this bank interms of it mode of operation and financial even results has often been OK.This bank has 37kobo as at third quarter and i want to believe by the year end we should see at worst 42kobo and if this bank pay the 37% of this dividend that will be 15kobo which is ~7%.So i will like to buy into this because this is a bnk i trust after gtb,Zen,fcmb, diamond, eti, and stanbic.

FBNH? Quite doubtful.

FBNH cannot have a dividend yield of 20% since their 9months profit have been capitalized as retained earning for the purpose of Basel 2 compliance.

I will be very surprised to see over10% dividend yield from FBNH at current price (assuming dividend will only be paid from Q4 earnings). For that to happen, they would need to declare a fantastic Q4 result, of which the major driver would have to come from non-interest income ,especially forex trading as GTB benefited hugely from forex volatility in Q4 ,as can be seen from their recently released results. I dont expect any surprises from FBNHs Q4 interest income, given the current macroeconomic conditions.

FBNH's full year EPS guidance is about N2.34 of which 3/4 of this amount is already capitalized.

Taking a general look at the sector with a view to identifying the mystery bank .

Access - Might not pay a fantastic dividend as they are in the market to raise money and have not been largely successful in that regard.

UBA - Same situation with Access .

Diamond - Likely to have a payout ratio of 30%. Added to the newly listed right shares, expect a drop in EPS .Not known to be generous with dividend so dont expect a miracle here. Likely dividend within the 0.3 to 0.4 range.

Skye - Acquired mainstreet through an off balance sheet transaction. Capital appreciation is much likely ,but handsome dividends? I don't think so. They need cash to integrate their new acquisition.

Stanbic IBTC - Strong brand ,good results but cant give a 10% yield at current price, going by their dividend history.

Ecobank - Not a bank to spring surprises. Low expectations.

Fidelity - Not known for fantastic dividends. Dont expect a surprise this time around.

Sterling - Had a fairly good year. Any surprises ? I dont think so.

Unity bank - No comment. Any objections?

Union bank - No surprises.

FCMB - I deliberately left it for the last. This might be the mystery bank. Feelers from last year showed they had an intention of raising tier 2 capital. With the current situation of the capital markets and the CBN regulation on foreign borrowing, they might choose to retain their earnings to boost tier 1 capital in compliance with the basel 2 accord. Also note that there is a subsisting circular limiting dividend payout by banks who are yet to meet the minimum CAR under basel 2. Knowing all this ,will I place a bet on a fantastic dividend from FCMB ? I dont think so.

Where is the mystery bank brothers?

Dear forumites;pls do anyone has vital info to know if dangote sugar stand a chance of equaling last year dividend of 60kobo as when it made #1.13 as a against likely possibility of not able to achieve such this year as it third quarter eps stand at 76kobo and what maybe likely dividend this time around and how had dangote sugar year end result been in the time past, was it always a positive/marginal or negative result.Thanks.
Secondly, how as nascon last quarter result being! and based on 59kobo third quarter eps which is a decline to last year 3rd quarter result and from this current realities they may not pay 90kobo as they did last year but i think they may pay between 55kobo-70kobo.

upl@66kobo at 3rd quarter and likely negative fourth quarter result may take eps to 56kobo and i think 30kobo is still certain.
fbnh@#1.70 as its eps while last year end eps was #2.16 n so this year let see.......
transcorp@21kobo + fourth quarter (+/-)=likely dividend of 11/12kobo.p/e of 12.76(hgjgff)

@Sir kagame,
i could see some good cautious points in your post that's why i believed fidelity, uba, access bank, diamond, skyebnk, are banks to trade with caution when it comes to dividend expectation though they are good for capital appreciation if they are massively beaten down and that what we are seeing now.
My only generous when it come to dividend are these two banks;gtb and zenith.
For stanbic the final dividend is next to pittance while interim has been good of result. For Eti,they are currently having over 300kobo eps at third q, but they are so unchanging when it comes to paying good, they may still pay the usual 4cents.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Aks(m): 2:08pm On Mar 08, 2015
@Sir Kagame - Thank you very much for the analysis.

Out of the banks that are yet to release their result, I think UBA will do better than other banks in terms of Dividend payment.
As for Sterling bank, they are the most exposed bank to oil sector (approx 34% of their total risk asset) also their CAR is a cause for concern as they are still unable to raise capital, i don't see the bank spring any surprise.

immanuello:

GTB and Zenith are the two Nigerian banks with a huge capacity for growth in the short term and maybe long term. They are adequately capitalized (Tier 1) and very efficient. Their good tier 1 capital standing gives them enough head room for loan book expansion without falling below the minimum CAR required for SIBs.

FBNH is groaning under its own weight ; Inadequate shareholders fund in relation to its huge deposit liabilities and risk assets. I wont be surprised if they slow down loan growth in 2015 while retaining a good measure of profits in 2015 to give them enough headroom for future growth. They can also look inwards by improving their efficiency as their topline for 2014 was quite impressive.

At the moment, GTB ,Zenith are the clear market leaders.
