Matriarch society is not Feminism love.... I now know the tenets of your Feminism. Noted.

Its not feminism because the men aren't treated equally. I know that. I just threw it in there to make a point. I defined feminism prior to mentioning the Bijago.

Take a look at history. Women had no choice in matters at all.

You hear of a woman wanting to become a doctor and her dad tells her "there's no point sending her to school"

Statements like "a woman's place is in the kitchen"

Girls doing men's job are actually laughed at and called men-like names

Girls doing weight lifting or in the Olympics get laughed at.

All these are social oppression.

And they still happen today, they are not just history.

A man will say stuff like "stop acting like a woman". This statement is sexist and it is belittling. It implies that women are lesser than men.
@ the emboldened, it's quite funny...
Man & woman have distinct personalities, physique, character, voice etc... Often times I hear people telling women, stop acting, dressing, talking & behaving like a man, how does that sound oppressive? Because by nature male & female are two distinct genders. So it's normal for anyone to talk when one gender act like the other...

I always wondered why men think they are the authority of what makes a woman happy. They assumed sex and money is the root of women's happiness but they later come on Nairaland crying their girls have cheated and/or left them.

Authentic Feminism focuses on eliminate dependent on males for a sustenance way of life.

Showdy, the girls have showed us that. SEX AND MONEY especially are the root of their happiness...
So its not our fault...

Honestly, i dont know what to say again. Ofcourse there will be a few.

Tune in to discovery once in a while and watch world war stories. You will hear that women were not allowed to fight in the war because they are women.

Women dont have it easy in today's society. They have never had it easy. If you dont see that, then i fear i am wasting my time.

Just so you know, i said it was belittling not oppressive

In today's society, "man" is synonymous to "strong, in control, brave"... "woman" is synonymous "weak, scared , whinny".

You dont see anything wrong with that? or are you saying i am lying?

1. And this is because he doesn't see any point in sending her to school, not because he wants his daughter oppressed. Or maybe, he couldn't afford it.

2. Where is a woman's place if not in the kitchen(home)? Yes, women work today but who does house-keeping if not women?

3. And men doing women-like jobs aren't laughed at?

4. And men who take up knitting as a profession aren't laughed at?

5. All these are social dynamics.

6. Women are oppressed today? Examples, please.

7. And women will say "are you not a man?" It is manipulative. But you don't hear men bitcching about it.

You have yet to present convincing arguments.

1. Yeah right. Thats why he sent his other 5 sons to school and not one of his 6 daughters.

2. feminism says women that want to step up should not be beaten down. They should be alowed to.

3. Thats not the point. This is not about men, its about women

4. Thats not the point. This is not about men, its about women

5. women are being taught to be submissive to men. "Its a man's world" means nothing to you?

6. Are you telling me that men dont havve it easier than women?

7. blacks call whites racist words all the time but once a white man does it, everyone goes mad.

I was once like you. always saying "what about men" "what about men". Until i read a post on reddit.com. a black girl posted about how she loved her skin color and everything about being black then some white guys posted that the post was gonna sound racist if it were posted by a white person. Someone replied...Its not about you, its about them. A group of people that have grown oppressed and made to think less of themselves. They were taught to be submissive. They are trying to fight that mentality and also show that they are capable. Let them have it.. unless you think they should still be submissive, oppressed and looked doewn on.

They arent given the same opportunities as men

ofcourse, its getting less now because of the feminism movement but its still there.

If a man and a woman apply for a job, the man is most likely to get picked without even giving the woman a chance to prove she is capable.

ofcourse you might say women dont really try but i will tell you that its what happens when you nurture someone to grow up and be submissive. Its the way society has formed them like they dont stand a chance competing against men.

Just look around you, the signs are everywhere.

1. That was a matter of economic-efficiency. Only poor or illiterate men didn't send their daughters to school. The men so sent were expected to, in fact, train up they're younger ones through school and cater for miscellaneous needs. Does it not occur to you that these men sent to school were being groomed for a life of servitude? Sent to school only to provide money for their younger ones? Bottom line, every one has/had a role and responsibility to fulfill.

2. Who's stopping women from stepping up? Aren't there women in all conceivable professions already? Any school depriving females admission on basis of gender?

3. Oh, really? You said feminism is about equal rights for both genders; now you say men should shut up? Which is it, mister? Is feminism for women alone or for both genders? Or are you saying women are to be more equal than men? If not, then, what affects a woman should equally affect a man, should it not? Abo, wetin be the meaning of equality?

4. Refer to point 3.

5. Wrong. Wives are taught to submit to their husbands. There's a distinct difference. Is Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala going to submit to Emeka the vulcaniser? grin

6. I would like proof of this having easier. Thanks for your cooperation.

7. And that makes it right? That only highlights a flaw in the system. Nobody should be racist to anyone else. Duh.

An oppressed person does not need to become an oppressor to seek redress. They might get restitution if it's practicable, otherwise, they could put an end to the oppression and move on. Becoming an oppressor is not sufficient justification for having suffered oppression, mister. Perhaps, people on that reddit page are dummies who couldn't spot argument fallacies and deal with them accordingly. And yes, an issue is about everyone involved not just the perp or the victim, everybody.

In which planet is this? I want to visit such a place and see for myself; or you can provide proof.

grin Indeed.

Maybe you should check the current statistics in employment. There are increasingly more women in the workforce than men. More women are joining the workforce than men are.

How many girls in all your classes from kindergarten to university were submissive to you or your other male colleagues grin. Women don't satnd a chance competing against men because men are better competitors. Simple. Show me one sphere where a woman is better than a man at anything.

Exactly, the signs say men are superior on average. wink
Re: Is Feminism Truly A Waste Of Time? by Truckpusher(m): 6:20pm On Jul 28, 2015
African women are the true examples of what a woman should be but because the society treats them like they are shiit ,this is why they are looking up to feminism .

If our system had capitalized on the nature of our women and give them a voice and their rightful place ,feminism won't see the light of the day but again we still have a system that believes that women should be relegated to the background of everything therefore feminism will come to bite us - it's just a matter of time .

@the emboldened, it's not true & u know it.

It's a well know fact that men are stronger than women, it doesn't apply to humans alone, always try to watch natgeo adv, u'll understand what I mean. U can't compare the strength of a lion to that of a lioness, or a cock to hen, it's natural, i think u should rather blame God for making women the weaker sex, not man.

People refer to men as strong because they are truly strong & brave. Take samson as a case study, that's is if u're a christian, he killed a lion, all the battles that were fought in the bible & olden days, nigeria civil war, world war, libya fight, etc were led by men, even till date.

I can categorically tell u only men constitutes the soldiers that are fighting in the northern part of nigerian. Despite the spate of wars in africa, have u ever seen women fighting? Only male soldiers are deployed to battle fields, because by nature, women aren't tough, if u're a wrestling fan, how will john cena vs any lady sound to u? Saying men are stronger & more brave than women isn't demeaning at all, it's the truth, & no one can dispute that.

Most of the things we are using today were invented by men, technology, architecture, medicine, engineering, law, politics etc, men were at the fore front in ensuring these things came into reality. Even women acknowledge the fact that they are the weaker sex, but taking advantage of their weakness is what they should be agitating against, not debating which sex is stronger......

But are u sure u're a man? Honestly u sound like a woman with so much hatred for men. smiley

Speaking of the army, can any of you truthfully tell me that a woman will be taken seriously in the army in Nigeria? Won't they end up in the desks? Like some pot bellied oldie will take orders from a "woman". Plus, you all have heard how women in the force are seen as sex objects and when they refuse to comply, they are "punished". It's all part of the movement.

Those jobs are dominated by men because they want it so and women are uninterested because of unfavorable conditions plus, men are generally physically stronger than women.

And should I mention choice? Or are all men involved in the fight for bokoharam?

My brother, if it were to be earlier, I would have been on your part of the fence.

Men and women are not equal, we are DIFFERENT.

Very different.

Apples are not equal to oranges, even though they are both fruits.

We possess strengths they don't, and they others we don't.

In certain abilities, they leave us in the dust, but in others, we eclipse them.
