Hi abujaniv and lagosniv
I am just coming from the American embassy in Abuja now with my mum and my sister.
We applied together to visit an uncle in Minnesota but my mums and sisters visa was approved but mine was rejected.
Am 21 in my final year. Although no question was directed to me personally. The interviewing officer asked if we've travelled as a family before and we answered yes coz we've been to UK earlier this year as a family.
The interviewing officer just said I have good news and bad news I have approved the visa for the two ladies but would have to reject mine coz I haven't met requirements and honestly all my forms were true and factual. Nb: I am a frequent traveler. Travelled to about 6 countries this year alone but never tried USA. She didn't even open my passport Now the trial was rejected.

Basically I want to ask
1. Can I reapply immediately because we are looking to travel by December. In the form I was given, I was told I can't appeal but I can reapply.
2. Any idea why I was singled out out of a family of 3

As previously stated we cannot comment on specific cases in this forum. You are correct, however, in that you cannot appeal the decision, but you are free to re-apply at anytime.

Niv team and everyone here. My brother was denied access to the interview hall on Tuesday by those US staff @ the entrance.they said that the bacode of his ds 160 didn't correspond with his appointment Confirmation n was given a paper to go and make another appointment after 48 hours.it was stated in the leaflet not to fill a new ds 160.meanwhile ,she claims that the bacode on the two documents didn't match.the bacode was later disovered to be right when he got outside and my bro had to go back again to complain about it but was told to go n make another appointment ,since she had entered his infomation on the system . The problem now is that the event he planned to attend is slated for 24 Oct 2015 and the earliest appointment is Nov 24th .Pls,what can he do ? can he fills a new ds160 in order to be able to readjust the new ds160 to meet the present situation ?

Hello VO,

Let me apologise in advance as this is actually an IV question, but I'm asking because my appointment is around the corner and our new IV VO is not on NL. Yet (hopefully, he/she comes eventually).

Here's my question. Part of the Nigeria-specific document requirements include photos taken before and during marriage.

We've been married 10 years, I go at least twice a year. We have kids (will present their birth certificates), hold a joint lease on the mortgage and have joint credit card accounts.

In light of all these, are the photos really necessary?

Reason I ask is because we were burgled a few years ago, and most of those pics were among our losses.

Thank you

Honesty is always the best option. Simply list your current and past employment as requested. Be prepared for questions about this and be honest as to your reasons for omiting it. Do not be surprised if a consular officer asks about this. Consular officers undertand that mistakes and omissions can and do get into the forms you submit, so admitting you made a mistake will allow the officer to apply the facts of your situation to you application with the perspective that your are being honest and candid about the facts at hand. Failing to disclose any requested information or becoming evasive will have the opposite effect.

Thank you ever so much for your reply. I shall list all employments as requested, but the reason why I omitted a previous 'employment' is because I didn't think they qualified as an employment. It was a charity/Missionary work abroad [in the UK] for three years [anything from 8 months at one time to 12 months] Although I received shared accommodation and food plus some small stipend, this wasn't [to me] an employment, it was missions work. However, because it is significant to my current pursuit in the States, I will surely state them, though I am still not sure, if by the standards or expectations of the VO, this passes for an employment. However I will state it anyway. Though the last time I was interviewed when I went for a B1/B2 interview, the VO asked me about my charity work in the UK, despite not stating it -but the type of Visas on my passport stated it. He asked how is it possible that I would give three years of my life to doing charity work without pay? Haha. I thank you very much for taking the time to reply. Your effort is valued -certainly by this poster.

Dear NOV team and everyone,
My wife and I applied and were issued US Visa last year.
My wife was able to visit the US and back to Nigeria with the Visa last year but I wasn't due to a tight work schedule.
The Visa expires by Jan-2016. (next year) .
My question is if I don't make Use of this Visa before it expires, would that in any way affect my chances of being granted another US visa if I apply again (either by Dropbox ). Because I wish to apply immediately again as I plan traveling to the US by next year 2016 unfailingly.
Thanks for your answers in advance.

Well, it sounds like you can re-apply for a visa. Otherwise I don't have enough information about the case.

You can try to request an emergency appointment; filling out a new DS-160 will require a new fee and won't get you in any faster. Instructions on how to request emergency appointments are on the U.S. embassy website.

You can re-apply. This means you are not banned. You will be specifically informed if you are banned.

Thank you

All of the VOs in Lagos do both non-immigrant and immigrant visas.

Are pictures 100% necessary? No. But they can go a long way in helping you present your case. Provide all of the documentation that you are able to and be prepared to explain the situation during your interview.

Sure, you can apply. There are, however, no no guarantees that a visa will be granted. Your previous applications will play a role in determining your future applications.

You are not eligible for dropbox since your most recent application was a refusal. You will have to conduct an interview in person.

The documents you need are the same documents required of any B1/B2 visa interview. Please read the previous posts.

Good day VO..
Please I need your advice, I once applied for student visa (F1) in which I was found ineligible after the interview.. I later move on with my education in which I will complete my master degree in few month time..
Now my aunt in the state want to offer me a graduation ceremony gift which involve my presence (vacation).... I don't know if the reason will be cogient enough to convince the consular officer during the B2 visa interview..

You should expect to be questioned about this fairly thoroughly, but it will not necessarily lead to you getting banned. The problem you have now is that you have to overcome the lies that were previously stated.

So what is your advice if I can ask?

I'm planning a family visit to the US (next year) I'm married (2years) and have a daughter, she's 1+ ... We (my wife, daughter and i ) just want to try to apply for tourist visa , for family vacation.
My wife has never travelled, i have travelled before but that was a long time ago. 2008 (Germany) 2009 (Austria) I'm 34 and my wife is 29
I work in a company (have been working for 13 years) and i earn average of 300k per month. I also have a distributorship business which i established in 2008 ( a major distributor to a diary manufacturing company in lagos) the business was registered with CAC as Business name 2008. I also registered another business name in 2012 which i use for small supplies and contracts with companies(the turnover of both businesses is quite encouraging anyway- this is equally evident in monthly bank statement of acct.
My wife takes a full time job running part of the business, while i still maintain my paid job- though I've a couple of guys who oversee other aspects. My inlaw lives in the US, owns a business and have been there for several years.
Given the situation above, can we apply and what is our chance of getting visa?
Like I stated, I'm new here and I'm planning the application for mid 2016 or so, if time permits.
Your advice will be appreciated.
Thanks all!
