So far so good for this team. Though short of top individual talents compared to Iheanacho's set, as a team they've been good. Been impressed with Chukwueze, Nwakali and the goalie. I don't really like osenhimen(hope I got d spelling right).
Hope they reach at least the semis. Winning the U17 worldcup doesn't excite me anymore

Yeah good observation. I am looking forward to U20 already. Where Taiwo Awoniyi,Musa Yahaya, Ifeanyi Mathew, Musa Mohamed, Akinjide Idowu, Dele Alampasu are still elligible (bringing in now there club professional experiences) Combine these players with d best from Amuneke's team and we will b more ready this time.

Jst like the 1985 & 87 Eaglets formed bulk of d players dat represented Nigeria at Saudi 89 U20 which to me are 1 of d best U20s we have produced.
I don't agree with players repeating age grade tourneys even when they're eligible. Primary aim for
Age grade tourneys should be discovering new sets of talents for the future. Those players u mentioned should be with the u23s, let an entirely new set of youngsters be given an opportunity to shine.

Well, that is ur own opinion. But it is standard practise all over the world for players to repeat U20 if they are elligible. The only age grade players dnt repeat is U17 according to FIFA. Age grade for discovery is U17 while development starts at U20. Other Manu boys that are elligible to repeat or feature at next U20 are Edwin Okon, Chidera Ezeh, Chinedu Obasi and Habeeb Makanjuola.

They have been in hidding since after there disgraceful 2014 FIFA WC outing.

There Black stars have not won any trophy since d era of Kwame Nkruma as their president (33yrs +).

There U17 have not qualified for the U17 WC after since d MRI was introduced. grin

They did nt qualify for the African Games and out of Olympic qualifiers.

We have been trashing them at the U17 & U20 of late( aftermath of MRI).

They no longer have d face to comment here any more.

Aguero played 2005 with Messi and Zabaletta and came back in Canada 2007 and won the golden boot and golden ball.

U17 can be for development but the U20 is a mini world Cup which should consist of the best the country has to offer. It features the next big things in football.

U can't be more right bro. The U20 is like 3 steps higher than the U17. i.e 18, 19, 20.1One yr is alot in d development of a young player. I bcame very skeptical of our chances at d last U20 when we paraded mostly 17 & 18 yrs olds while others featured 19 & 20 yrs old. Manu understood this challenge which was y he introduced Saviour, Moses,Ndidi and Sokari who were 19yrs+ jst to add more experience and competitiveness in d team.

I personally believe in fielding ur best players at tourneys. Take a look at the likes of Musa Mohammed, Awoniyi, Chidera Eze, Yahaya, Ifeanyi Mathew, Akinjide Idowu, Alampasu hu will b 19 -20 in 2 yrs time.If dey continue to develop in their various clubs and U23 Imagine where their game levels will b if they play d next U20 of which dey very elligible. Fusing these lads with d best of Amuneke's boys will produce a very fantastic Flying Eagles side jst like d 89 Flying Eagles that was made of the 85 & 87 Eaglets.

In the Round of 16, Nigeria is scheduled to play 3rd placed team of Groups C,D or E which as at today are Australia, Ecuador or SA ...Australia may drop lower for Argentina though who play them in the last Group C game and SA as well could drop behind North Korea after their game against Russia

Based on GD currently though, we'll most likely play Ecuador, this is assuming they are unable to beat Belgium in their final group game as Mali should win Honduras....

So yeah, either Australia, Ecuador or SA for now.

Meanwhile, SA drew North Korea 1-1 today.

The most "clinical" striker at the ongoing Chile 2015 Fifa u-17 world cup is an African.

With 3 shots on goal so far in 2 games..... All have been "converted".

He has 3 shots/attempts on goal so far for the whole games he's played and has 3 goals to show for it.

HIS NAME?? OF COURSE, HE'S "VICTOR OSIMHEN" OF NIGERIA'S GOLDEN EAGLETS... HIS GOAL CONVERSION RATIO STATS STAND AS 100% so far.

This is deadly!!! Reminds me of a 20-yr old Thomas Muller(currently 25 of Bayern munich) at the 2010 Fifa world cup who finished the tournament tagged South Africa 2010 with 5 overall shots/attempts on goal and 5 goals...... **smiles**

Just had to point that out....... *smiles*

And hey Safarigirl, I don't know but I think I'm ok with non-african opposition in the round of 16. I don't wanna play those South Africans... Why? I know we'll beat them but at what cost? A few injuries here and there...... I don't want that. I don't want a pyrrhic victory. But it's ok.... Hopefully we'll try get through that if the south africans turn out to be our opponents (which I doubt very much as they have RUSSIA to tackle in their last game).....

Anyway, let's see how it goes.....*smiles*

Has anyone else noticed that this year's competition is weak compared to 2013?

I mean, even in our group, despite the awesomeness of Manu's boys, we still had to wait the last game to determine who tops the group, and there were teams on 4 points placing 3rd. This year, with an arguably average team compared to the last set, we've already secured top spot and it won't be surprising if 2 points can secure you best 3rd place.

And let me not harp on the weakness of the Argentine team, abeg if their U20 and U17 teams are this bad, who will take over
from Messi and co?

Yes I did, even in areas of talents and individual brilliance, this set is not a match to the 2013 set, with the few matches I have watched so far.

The 2015 Golden Eaglets U-17 set would have strugled to qualifier in the Golden Eaglets of 2013 Set's group, even as best loosers.

I stand solidly behind you on this one.

We better begine to nurture and raise fresh talents who will fill the void left behind by the older generations.

No body wants to repeat a class, so why in football?

It is this same issue that has made 'most Nigerian Youth Internationals to continually lower their age just to keep on fetching the cash from these tournaments' instead of the exposure which the tournament brings to the many aspiring football talents that abound in the Country.

U-17 World Cup: Golden Eaglets Pair Seek Revenge Against Croatia

Golden Eaglets players, John Lazarus and David Enogela, have both expressed their desires in avenging against Croatia when they clash on Friday in their last group game at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Both teams met in September at the Suwon Invitational Tourney in South Korea, with the Croatians winning 3-2.

The Eaglets pair have promised they and their team-mates will make sure they get their pound of flesh this time.

"We were unlucky against Croatia in Suwon because we were leading them 2-1 until few minutes to the end of the match," Lazarus told the Nigeria Football Federation official website.

"They got a penalty to equalise and the winning goal later and that stopped us from winning the tournament.

"We won't allow that to happen against us on Friday and we will work harder to win."

Enogela added: "We saw in Suwon how physical they (Croatia) can play and I agree with Lazarus that they were lucky to have beaten us.

"We are going to ensure that they don't beat us on Friday and that means we have to be at our best, because they need the result more than us."

The Eaglets would be without defensive midfielder, Udochukwu Anumudu, who was booked against USA and Chile.

They will also be without Funsho Bamgboye who got a red card against Chile.

David Enogela Fancies Golden Eaglets Chances Against Physical Croatians

Nigeria Under 17 international David Enogela expects Croatia to play a physical game on Friday night but fancies the Golden Eaglets chances nonetheless.

The midfielder has supported the words of defender John Lazarus, stating that the Croatians were fortunate to come away with a win when both teams met at the Suwon tourney in Korea.

“We saw in Suwon how physical they (Croatia) can play and I agree with Lazarus that they were lucky to have beaten us,” said David Enogela.

“We are going to ensure that they don’t beat us on Friday and that means we have to be at our best, because they need the result more than us.”

Enogela lasted the distance against USA and Chile and may be involved on Friday as Udochukwu Anumudu is unavailable for selection after picking up two yellow cards.

I don't think there is need for revenge , I will implore Amunike to try new players keep the best legs for the knock out stage . Though they need the victory to have a clear 9 points but it's not as important as we can see . The bench can do the magic !

Defender John Lazarus Says It Is Payback Time For Golden Eaglets

Despite qualifying for the round of 16 at the Fifa Under 17s, the Golden Eaglets will not take their feet off the gas when they confront Croatia at the Estadio Francisco Sanchez Rumoroso in Coquimbo on Friday, according to defender John Lazarus.

Only last month, the Nigeria U17s threw away a one - goal lead before losing 3 - 2 to the Europeans at the Suwon U-17 Invitational Tournament.

“We were unlucky against Croatia in Suwon because we were leading them 2-1 until few minutes to the end of the match,” said defender John Lazarus to thenff.com.

“They got a penalty to equalize and the winning goal later and that stopped us from winning the tournament.
“We won’t allow that to happen against us on Friday and we will work harder to win.”

2013 World Cup Winner Zaharaddeen Bello Reveals Amuneke Takes Every Game Seriously, Expects Team To Beat Croatia

Nigeria Under 20 international Zaharaddeen Bello expects the Golden Eaglets to rack up their third win on the spin when they tackle Croatia at the ongoing Fifa Under 17 World Cup and has assured that coach Emmanuel Amuneke takes every game seriously.

The Dabo Babes Academy product was involved in every single game played by the Nigeria Under 17s at the 2013 edition of the tournament in the United Arab Emirates, and has predicted that the 2015 class will equal their achievement by winning the Cup for a fifth time.

“From what I have seen they will do more than we did. They play a very compact game, from the defense, midfield to attack. If they continue like this, they will go far in Chile, ” says Zaharaddeen Bello toa llnigeriasoccer.com.

“Everybody wants them to win against Croatia. We took every game as a final and I know the coach (Amuneke) will tell them that just as he told us in 2013.

“Emmanuel Amuneke told us not to think that we have arrived because we were winning matches and wants us to be focused every time.”

The central defender has been impressed with the contribution of Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze in the first two games contested by the national team but he is not surprised with their performance as he trained with both youngsters in 2013 prior to the World Cup in UAE.

“Honestly from what I saw the number nine (Osimhen) is very good in the air and on the ground.

“Samuel Chukwueze has really impressed me. Kelechi Nwakali and Chukwueze trained with us in 2013 but didn’t make the squad but they are very good players,” Bello concluded.

The Golden Eaglets have qualified for the final game of the Fifa Under 17s every time they won all their group matches. That occurred three times , in 1993, 2001 and 2007.

He spoke of the impact the Airtel Rising Stars competition has had in youth football in the country.

The encouragement we got from the ex-internationals, the spectators and Airtel Nigeria showed that they believe in us that is why they gave us such opportunity to display our talents".Said Christopher Evo who emerged the Highest Goal Scorer in the tournament, said.

He said the soccer clinic also allowed them to see their areas of weakness and how they could improve.

The skilful player who scored three goals in the competition noted that apart from improving his skills, the tournament gave him opportunity to make new friends and to know more places in Nigeria.

"As a group, after training at the ARS football clinic we visited several places and we relaxed.

"I really appreciate what Airtel has done for us. This is a big motivation for us because we are made to believe that we can achieve our dreams. From the qualifying matches to the finals, Airtel really supported the boys and girls, kitted us, fed us and gave us confidence to pursue of dreams," he added.

How Amosun's Wife Discovered Nigeria's Number One Goalkeeper

FIFA U-17 WORLD CUP

Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun (left) with the Golden Eaglets goalkeeper, Akpan Udoh during the UPLIFT Football Team's soccer training at Udinese Football Club in Italy.

Akpan Udoh, one of the players of the UPLIFT Football Team, sponsored on soccer training to the Udinese Football Club in Italy by the wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun in 2013, is currently making waves at the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015.

Udoh, who is Nigeria's number one goalkeeper at the ongoing tournament, was one of the 22 young football players discovered by Mrs. Amosun's football talent hunt programme in 2013.

The UPLIFTing Under-15 Grassroot Football Talent-hunt was organised by the wife of the Governor of Ogun State during the 2013 Easter holiday amongst all public secondary school students in Ogun State.

For the whole duration of the training, elimination and selection process, the competition had in attendance the likes of Mr. Jim Colston, a renowned scout for the English Premiership League in the United Kingdom and Nigeria's celebrated ex-international, Chief Olusegun Odegbami as well as Football Ambassador, Mr. John Fashanu.

Talents discovered at the competition were then sponsored by the UPLIFT Development Foundation (Mrs. Amosun's Foundation) to Udinese Football Club, Italy, for a two-week training camp.

While some of the other UPLIFT football players have joined various football academies to improve on their skills, others have been featuring in different local football competitions to showcase their talents.

Nigeria: Golden Eaglets Go for Pound of Flesh Against Croatia

By Alex Monye

Though already through to the Round of 16 at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015, the Golden Eaglets say they are ready for revenge when they meet Croatia at the Estadio Francisco Sanchez Rumoroso in Coquimbo today.

As recent as September 6, Croatia beat Nigeria 3-2 in an acrimonious encounter at the 2015 Suwon U-17 Invitational Tournament in Korea but the Golden Eaglets reckoned it would be payback time today.

"We were unlucky against Croatia in Suwon because we were leading them 2-1 until few minutes to the end of the match," recalled defender John Lazarus.

"They got a penalty to equalize and the winning goal later and that stopped us from winning the tournament.

"We won't allow that to happen against us on Friday and we will work harder to win," added the diminutive defender, who was in the U-13 National Team that won the London International Youth Tournament in 2010.

Midfielder David Enogela, who made his international bow at the youth level against Croatia in Suwon after coming on as a second half substitute for captain Kelechi Nwakali, said the Golden Eaglets must be at their best against the combative Europeans.

"We saw in Suwon how physical they (Croatia) can play and I agree with Lazarus that they were unlucky to have beaten us ," he said. "We are going to ensure that they don't beat us on Friday and that means we have to be at our best, because they need the result more than us. "

The two matches in Group A would be played simultaneously today at 12:00 midnight Nigerian time (8:00pm local Chilean time) with the three other teams needing a win to have a realistic chance of progressing to the Round of 16 along with Nigeria.

Host Chile who have one point along with USA would slug it out at Estadio Sausalito while Croatia with two points from two matches confront the Golden Eaglets in Coquimbo.

The Golden Eaglets would be without defensive midfielder, Udochukwu Anumudu, who was booked against USA and Chile, as well as striker Funsho Bamgboye, who saw red against Chile on Tuesday.

The Golden Eaglets left Vina der Mar for Coquimbo on Wednesday ahead of their last Group A match against Croatia.

A Nigerian, Mr. Nojeem Igeola Hassan was delighted to welcome the team at their new abode at Hotel De La Bahia.

"I'm so happy to welcome you here and I'm really impressed with the boys' performance against Chile on Tuesday," he said.

"The Chileans never believed an African team would play like that against them. You really made me proud," he added.
