The difference between South Africa And Nigeria is like "black and white"..... Nigeria should be compared to Ghana, congo, Togo.. I don't care about having the Highest GDP, if it doesn't make life easier for me then to hell with it. We should drop our ego and learn from these countries on development. 3 Likes 1 Share |

denisfidha: what a shocker, $509billion GDP and nigeria can only raise $23billion, something is not adding up here. Algeria, with a GDP of $175billion, has a budget of about $67billion. So where is Nigerian money that seems to be invisible. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Rossikk:Like did u have to call me a dumb slave just because i aired my opinion? Well sir, laying a foundation can take more time than raising the house up, Den we were in the stone age, the level of exposure n technology that exists in this century was not then. They woulda achieved more if dey had extra 50yrs into the 21st century. |

macklef: Your ''opinion'' is SHIIT. And you lack a working brain. You are a disgrace to Africa and to humanity. Well sir, laying a foundation can take more time than raising the house up, Keep making excuses for their colonial thievery and brigandage. DULLARD. It takes 63 years to ''lay foundation'' in your BLOCK HEAD. Maybe from 1960 it would have taken them another 100 years to ''plaster the house''. Was South Africa not in the same ''stone age''? How come South Africa got her first universities, power stations, roads, airports etc by the 1870s, while we had to wait till after 1960 for the British to ''raise your foundation''? OLODO. Don't use your dull head for once in your life. If the British were still in charge, and since literacy rate was only 10% by 1960, it would have risen to maybe 20% by today (not 76% as is current). YOU, MR, would likely be an illiiterate village hunter of rabbits and cockroaches with blistered fingers and tattered clothes, not an educated dunce calling for your own slavery. |

14: You need to understand what GDP means. It does not mean money earned by he govt but rather, by the people as it were. Nigeria remains one of the least heavily taxed nations on earth so much of the GDP wealth remains with the people, not the govt. |

ISpiksDaTroof: Go around Nigeria and see the number of proper houses, roads, schools, vehicles, hospitals, airports etc, that exist in their MILLIONS compared to the thatched huts, footpaths, bicycles, and malnourished, barefoot children that were the norm under British rule. YOU NEED TO GET OUT MORE. WE HAVE MADE SUBSTANTIAL PROGRESS SINCE INDEPENDENCE. Heck a guy like you even now gets to be among the over 100 million Nigerians with mobile phones, and not needing to use the town crier or smoke signals, like in the days of colonial rule, when telephones were unheard of for 99.9% of the population. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Rossikk:i think the problem is nigerians will never appriciate what belongs to them. May be because they see the infrastures everyday. .....Nigeria is a beautiful country.. We have the good and the bad side. but then, its the same with every country of the world. |

BOWOTO: Shut your rancid mouth. Bodyguard for white men. The minute someone raises the history of Nigeria (of which colonialists were a HUGE part) slaves like you start running around to protect your white massa. Fact is if you have to assess why Nigeria is not as developed as South Africa, which is the op's topic, you MUST mention the two nations' respective colonial histories, or you have not addressed the problem. In SA the colonialists started building the country the minute they got there in the 1800s. In Nigeria, the colonialists did nothing, while still exporting our resources. Fast forward to 1960. The two countries were miles apart in development terms because one got investment for a century and the other did not. If we do a 100 meter race and I stand 30 meters in front of you prior to the race, will I not win the race? Fast forward to 2015, the two countries are still miles apart because one (Nigeria) is still playing catch up with the other, since SA did not stop developing or pause after 1960 while waiting for Nigeria to catch up. Instead she has continued developing too. So we still are not the same in terms of living standards. YOU CANNOT TRACE THE INEQUALITY BETWEEN THE TWO NATIONS WITHOUT DISCUSSING THEIR COLONIAL/POST COLONIAL HISTORIES SINCE THE RACE FOR DEVELOPMENT DID NOT START LAST YEAR OR 5 YEARS AGO, BUT A CENTURY AND HALF AGO. When you see a youth misbehaving, smoking crack and rap.ing girls and playing truant, you investigate his history. How he was raised, who raised him, who his friends are etc etc. You do not say ''Ah.. don't blame his childhood. Don't blame anybody. The child is cursed!!!''. That's illiterate thinking. 2 Likes |

ThisMeansWAR: Their main problem is racial inferiority complex. The British taught their parents that they were inferior to whites, and their parents have handed this down to them. This is why, despite the fact that I've shown that black rule has benefited Nigeria 100 times more than white rule ever did [for instance, 1897 to 1960 (63 years), we had 0 universities built by white govts. 1960 to 2015 (55 years), we had nearly 200 universities built by black govts], yet they still call for the whites to return and rule them!. If that's not stupi.d.ity and brainwashing of the highest order, what is? And then when you mention this disparity in achievement between white and black govts they say you're ''blaming colonialists for your problems''. I GIVE UP ON THEM. SERIOUSLY. Damn slaves!! They should be on a bloody plantation picking cotton!! That's all they're good for, really. LOW IQ DULLARDS. 3 Likes |

Laird: to the best of my knowledge Nigerian doctors are one of the highest paid in nigerian public service and among developing countries in the world. nigerian doctors earn more than indian and cuban doctors. fact. yet can u rate their performance better than the above mentioned. there's nothing wrong in asking for more but let wages be directly proportional to productivity and performance. 1 Like |

Lol, even Somalia looks better than nigeria. The Somalia You Don't Know (pics) Look at the cities of Somalia (one of the poorest countries in Africa) and compare it to most cities in Nigeria (one of the richest countries in Africa). YOU BE THE JUDGE. Mind you, Somalia is technically still at war. Imagine if they had real peace. https://www.nairaland.com/2681594/somalia-dont-know-pics 1 Like 1 Share |

Rossikk: there is difference between house and home, difference between building schools and building quality education. Nigerian leaders lack innovation. when we build roads, there is no proper road markings or proper pavement for pedestrians. proper sewage we don't have. proper postal addresss to receive online orders or letters we don't have. how long will it take to have these simple tthings? after 55 years. common NYSC, people camp in places not even fit for a pig. is this not a zoo? 1 Like |

Foxflames:No one said we were perfect. But would you prefer a footpath to a road without sidewalks? Would you prefer zero schools to poor quality schools? Would you prefer a thatched hut to a duplex with no proper postal address? That's the crux of the matter. Considering our numerous challenges, 55 years is not enough time for everything to fall into place. |

^^^^^ I meant one as big as that one. Ethiopia will be adding 20GW in the next ten years from all their projects underway. Nigeria has speant billions in the last 20 years, but produces less than it did 20 years ago. “When PDP came to power in 1999 Nigeria was generating about 4,000 MW of electricity. After 15 years and $20 billion spent we are generating between 3,000 and 4,000 MW.” Buhari |
