@OP here is my disagreement: As you will remember that Aaronic priesthood which metamorphosed into Levitical priesthood does not not allow for wine. (See Leviticus 10: 19) You need to study more why God killed the two sons of Aaron. More importantly Christ has redeemed us as Kings and Priest according to the Epistle of Peter. Except you can show me clearly from the Scripture where priests are allowed to drink wine. I completely disagree with you. Your position is to justify drinking. You and I know that in exegesis principle of Hermeneutics must fully come to play. Let us be careful of what we suggest to people
brother you are wrong again.
You keep quoting a particular part of the Bible where a set of people were told not to take wine.
You forget that that's not how to argue reasonably.
The Bible said John the Baptist should not take wine for instance.
Why? Because he is a Nazarene.
The Bible also said John doesn't shave his hair.
Do you shave your hair?
The fact that a Nazarene shouldn't take wine doesn't mean it's a sin for anyone to take wine.
If not leaving hair on your head is a sin.
Every sin, the Bible categorically calls it a sin.
No inference or blind argument needed.
If alcohol is a sin it couldn't have entered Timothy's stomach at all; for any reason whatsoever.
Just like saying fornication is a sin, but someone can fornicate for his stomach.

I've always known personally that there's nothing wrong with Alcohol, as it's even used as a form of food preservative. However, how you drink it and where you drink it is the main thing. If you drink it with sinners, they'll take you as one of them, and they can never listen to you when you preach Jesus to them. In a nutshell, if you have to sacrifice drinking Alcohol in order to make sinners listen to you with an open heart while you preach, I think it's worth it. As a Christian, we have to live a life that won't make people go a stray. Personally, I don't drink it. But I don't see anything wrong with it either.

I'm afraid sir, but your argument is nonsense!

So by your own line of reasoning Jesus, who declared that he came eating and drinking, and was socialising with tax collectors and other sinners, was destroying his own message and losing his credibility? And by your same reasoning Peter, who went to Cornelius' house & ate & drank with him, was compromising his testimony(they accused him of doing so too!) - even after God told him by a vision not to call unclean what God had declared clean?

And besides, saying that one shouldn't touch alcohol to avoid drunkenness is just like saying a married person should swear off sex with their spouse so that they won't commit adultery. Or don't you know that there are unbelievers who are moderate drinkers, never going to excess? What good is their self-discipline to the souls of others - or their own souls, for that matter? Sometimes I just marvel at how we Christians just keep majoring on the minors.

Moderation grin
The point is not between moderation and drunkenness, the bottom line is intake.

You think I wasted my time on that, but I tell you, hundreds of people have learnt from it.
It's not meant for kings to drink...It is not for kings, Lemuel— Not for kings to drink wine (farmented)... Proverbs 31:4. And the Bible says that we're kings and priests-Revelation 5:10.
I guess you're yet to be a king, please, get a crown in Christ, and stop twisting Scriptures to favor lies.
SORRY...MR. Now how did the Bible call other sins sins?
By saying: "it's not good for kings to fornicate"?, or "it's not good for kings to kill"? Or "it's not right for kings to steal"?
Some persons could be really funny.
The Bible calls a sin a sin.
Like thou shall not kill.
Thou shall not commit adultery.
Ever heard of "thou shall not drink wine/alcohol?"
Reason Please my brother!

REMEMBER YOUR BODY iS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY GHOST
The Bible says that "wine is a mocker, intoxicating drink arouses brawling" (Proverbs 20:1). The Bible also says, "Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor, pressing him to your bottle, even to make him drunk" (Habakkuk 2:15). Yet the Bible does not say that drinking a glass of wine or beer, or a cocktail with dinner, is a sin. Drunkenness is a sin, forbidden by the Bible, but having one drink may not be wrong.
Re: Alcohol: good Or Evil. What The Bible Really Says. by xpressword: 7:30pm On Nov 01, 2015
Is drinking alcohol wrong? I do not drink alcoholic beverages for one major reason: My conduct might cause someone else, who is weak, to stumble. The apostle Paul established a rule of conduct that I think is very good. He said he would not eat meat or drink wine or do anything else which would cause a weaker brother to stumble (see Romans 14:14-21).
Re: Alcohol: good Or Evil. What The Bible Really Says. by xpressword: 7:30pm On Nov 01, 2015
There is another reason for not drinking. The believer's body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. It is hard to think that we could pour liquor into the temple of God without defiling it. Liquor destroys blood vessels and brain cells. Long-term consumption of alcoholic beverages can cause cirrhosis of the liver, lead to delirium tremens, and make for habitual alcoholism.
Re: Alcohol: good Or Evil. What The Bible Really Says. by xpressword: 7:34pm On Nov 01, 2015
Some would raise the issue of what Jesus did when He changed water into wine. In ancient Israel there was almost no alcoholism, and there is little problem with it in Israel today. But in Jesus' day, wine was used at meals and in ceremonial functions or for special parties. As a national matter, wine was not a problem for them. Their wine was probably a low-alcohol-content grape derivative, and it was more of a refreshing beverage than it was an intoxicant. Jesus lived in a society in which alcoholism was not the problem that it is in our day. So, for Him, in the context of that culture, wine was all right. But for us in NIGERIA today, alcohol is not all right.

well, thank you, to the extent that you like my writing skill.
Now, you asked: " CAN I ASK YOU WHAT YOU WILL SAY IF YOU FIND YOUR PASTOR DRINKING ALCOHOL ON A SUNDAY BEFORE SERVICE"?
First, I'll say that the question is neither here nor there.
Flowing from the logic of the article, alcohol is not a sin.
Now, if alcohol is not a sin, then why should I cringe if I see "my pastor" taking alcohol before service.
Is "my pastor" getting drunk before service?
Enough of all this sanctimony already!
Well, my next write-up would be on "so called worldly music, Good or evil".

prostitution is basically adultery or fornication, so it's a sin

op has provided Bible passages to prove alcohol taken in moderation is not a sin but you claim its a sin without backing it up with passages. it makes one wonder where you got your opinion from cos it doesn't seem like it came from the Bible

Typically myopic close-minded response from someone who has 'Church mind' but doesn't have the mind of Christ -they're not one and the same thing.

I have to say, the op who created this thread is a true student of the Word - someone who has taken time to find out the mind of Christ concerning this unnecessarily controversial topic. It's a thread that has exposed the skewed, unbalanced, unscriptural (even, dare I say, heretical) mindset of most self-acclaimed Christian abstainers.

This issue of alcohol consumption is a real bitter point of misunderstanding in the Church. Because with all the scriptural references he gave on why the drinking of wine is not necessarily sinful, there are still some narrow-minded, sanctimonious holier-than-thous who'll insist otherwise - according to their own misguided, man-made, unscriptural doctrines.

For the record, I will say this as a born-again Christian with a confident, even if imperfect, understanding of Scripture: Anyone in Christendom advocating total abstinence from alcohol as the only right approach for a Christian is doing nothing but preaching HERESY!

To start with: Jesus' miracle at Cana. For anyone to advocate that it was nothing more than non-alcoholic fruit juice shows how deluded they must be to be propagating this error. The Bible made it clear from the statement of the head steward at the wedding - no doubt an experienced wine taster himself - that the wine that Jesus provided was of superior quality to the vintage that had run out. Tell me, could that possibly have been said about 'ordinary fruit juice'? Or are you implying that those of us who believe otherwise are saying that by providing the wine, Jesus was giving His approval to drunkenness? If you really think so, then sorry to sound harsh, but there's more hope for foolish drunkards than there is for you.

Then there's Jesus himself, who describes himself as "the Son of man who came eating and drinking", as opposed to John the Baptist who did neither - surely that's enough evidence to show that he too was a partaker of the fruit of the vine. They called him, the Lamb without blemish, a drunkard & a glutton - would you call him that as well cos he too drank alcohol? Or are you saying that self-discipline in the use of alcohol is impossible, so it's better not to touch the stuff? Like the apostle Paul said in 1 Cor. 6:12, " 'All things are lawful unto me' - but I will not be held under the power of any".

To me, those who are offended by others exercising their God-given right to partake of alcohol & its benefits, are afflicted by a mental malaise; not one of sincere concern for the welfare of their fellow man, but that of self righteousness - the pride that deceives them into thinking their own personal choices apply to everyone, along with the un-Christian hostility towards those who don't agree with them. Those are the same people who called Jesus drunkard & glutton, & doubtless theyll call those of us who adhere to this truth the same words. Well, personally my attitude is, if that's the case with me (& btw I'm also a moderate drinker who knows better than to take alcohol to excess for any reason) then I sure am glad & humbled to be in the company of my Lord.

I can see what you're trying to do, you're trying to use the bible to justify what you're doing wrong and I'm not going to play judge cos me, I know myself as a sinner(1 timothy 1:15) who need not to justify his sinful acts

won't it be more reasonable to drink responsibly so that the weak Christian who sees you would learn that he need not be drunk.
Why?
Because if you don't drink at all, the weak Christian will drink anyway.
But if you drink, though reasonably, he'll learn how well to drink.

Alcohol is good for the body. What you consider is the volume taken. When you drink without getting intoxicated(a bottle of beer or glass of wine. Dilute with water or non alcoholic beverage at minimal), you have no problem, neither it is a sin. When taken in excess becomes poison to the body and sin. "Drink responsibly," the producer indicated it there. Responsibly means the volume, where, how and when to take it. Some kill themselves taking alcohol on empty stomach. Some get intoxicated and drive. Excess of everything is harmful both alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Even water, when taken in excess, you become restless.
