Help house, my layers have been laying since November last year. All of a sudden their eggs are becoming really small. What do I do

when last did you deworm or administer lasota to the birds? What is the average weight of the birds?

Brineharry. How old are your birds? At what age did they start laying? Are they on litter or cage? What is the quantity of feed you're giving them? Did you photo stimulate during their growing phase? Are you using any special vitamins containing methionine?

Brineharry. As noted by tabontabon above, use of Aminogrow is the likeliest cause of the prolapse. You may wish to review its use. Temmydhayour. What other symptoms have you noticed apart from drop in production?

Please forgive my ignorance, I am here to learn.

I once asked this question here : "Does turkey and chicken have the same rearing process", got responses, but not with details.

So while at the university farm today, i asked the farm training instructor same question; "Does turkey and chicken have the same rearing process"?

and the response was "yes", that all poultry birds have the same rearing process, including vaccines but the difference is that chicken are more prone to diseases.

Please my fellow nairalanders forgive my ignorance, i have passion for this business, i beleive that this pratical training that i am currently undergoing and the INFORMATION gathered from nairaland will help me to understand the ups and down in the business so as to be successful..

clarification on this from farmers here ,most importantly from persons who have experience on both turkey and chicken farming will be appreciated. thank you so mcuh

@Hi clothiers, the cash you have at hand will determine the set up. For instance if you have like 200,000, construction, buying of pullets(day old chicks) and feeding up to laying period and vaccination can take up to that amount with 100birds for a start.
Presently, i started with that amount, my birds were delivered to me on the 6th of june and they are doing very well with enough heat and continuos check both day and night.

I have your post of how you started small, raised 200 birds and later increased stocks. please i will like your advice and also i will like to know;
what is the estimate in terms of cost of rearing 200 birds from DOC to laying stage?
at what % was your 200 birds laying?
also what is the size of the pen to raise 200 birds?

.
Chain link os very expensive. Am also constructing a pen house for 7k birds. I have resulted to using blocks fornd fence. Decided incase i get more land i will just make a gate to connect to the new land. I think making ur block helps. The blocks i am making now is a cement bag we getting 35 blocks from it. N it very strong. To fence an acre i calculated within 700 to 800k.

Practically it is not possible to get 7 crates plus from your birds cos that is about 100% production, especially if you are using deep litter system. Anything around 80% is fine.

Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by eaglevirus: 2:35pm On Mar 27, 2016
@Davies427 & Agrotconsult.;
i still need perimeter fencing to unleash rotweilers for security.

if u need to expand ur farm later then u might as well go for chain links cos u can reposition them compared to block fencing. its cheaper on d long run.
a roll of 8ft chain link is 24k here in Akwa Ibom. is it cheaper anywhere else.

In addition to dogs, geese are also very good security alarm. So good that the military uses them to replace dogs in sensitive military instalations. They are cheaper to keep and strangers cannot calm them into silence. Dogs are still important though bc they strike fear into theive's hearts. They will make good guards 2gether with geese. http://www.farmersjoint.com/blog/livestock-farming/poultry/29-super-interesting-facts-about-geese/.
