Question; Did Yoruba actively Vote for GEJ in 2011, Yes or No? Did Yoruba actively protest for VP GEJ to be accorded as Acting President while Turai pocketed the presidency in her kitchen, Yes or No? Were the SE and SS quiet throughout when all these were happening, yes or no? Did GEJ call SW rascals after being helped by these same people, Yes or No? Answer those questions genuinely, and ask yourself how SW betrayed GEJ.

Let's call a spade a spade, northern elites play "collective" long term politics so calling them chess masters is not out of place, southern politicians on the other hand specialise in "individual" short term politics and therein lies our failure! Calling northern politicians chessmasters shouldn't get us intimidated! It should help awaken us to the challenge we face and the realisation that as crafty as they are, we are craftier, we only choose to use our craftiness individually against each other hence we need to unify and shelve individual interests for group interests now!

I don't know whether you watch game of thrones or not, but you come of to me as an idealist! And in politics, idealists get mauled by realist brutally! Check house stark for confirmation!
So you insisting we are more enlightened than them is like house stark insisting they have more honour than other houses in westeros which while true, makes absolutely no difference in the long run! Make alliances of common interests accross the south and north central or get mauled like house stark! Now that is realism!

OK sir. Continue calling them chess masters or they are your chess masters. As for me, they r chess learners. Herd mentality doesn't make people masters of anything. Individual skill does.

I repeat. We will never enter such alliance with the SW. The North will work with the East. Nigeria is North+East. That is how the colonialists left Nigeria and that is how it will be. The SW were never in national politics, they rose because of the fall of the East after the war. Sorry. The SW must sojourn alone. Good luck to the SW....

You work with the north today, they discard you like used tissue tomorrow and work with the southwest tomorrow, the south looses, the north wins, I believe your post was made based on current political sentiments and you're smarter than it implies

Awo Family Without An Awo By Sam Omatseye (The Offensive Article)

The Awolowo rebirth in the Southwest has inspired gongs, songs and rhetoric of sorts. But they have missed one point.

It occurred to me in Abeokuta last week amidst the big crowds and euphoria of the swearing-in of Senator Ibikunle Amosun as governor. In all the states from Lagos to Edo, where Awo has witnessed ideological resurgence, hardly a single family member has played a role.

So we have an Awo family without an Awo. That is an irony. But history overwhelms us with this sort of twist. Obafemi Awolowo toiled for his reputation. His roots were lowly, he toiled to school both home and abroad, launched into careers in law, business, journalism and eventually politics. He carved a niche for himself, and became the first methodical and charismatic leftist in our history.  Other leftists abounded but they did not inspire comparable drama and following.

He faced tribulations, went to jail, failed in elections, won a few, but he imprinted his ideas and legacy in the country, and no single mortal has beaten him in the history of this country. His greatest achievement was in the area of ideas, and that was how he fashioned a family. Most families are born of biology but his issued from ideology. That family suffered with him.

In a spoof of Jesus Christ, these were the men who followed him in his teachings, and endured with him in his temptations. So he formed a kingdom for them in the Southwest, in the old Western Region, presiding over his projects, his legacies and people.

In all of these, the family he had was not his flesh and blood. In another spoof of Christ, who were his family anyway? Those who were with him must be counted as his family. So, I combed in the ambience of Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), and I found none. I went to Ogun, I frisked the crowd under Amosun’s bower, hardly any. Around Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in Osun, I could not lay a finger. With Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti, where are the forbears of Awo? Yet, I can hear the chants of Awo. Hardly in any of the inaugural speeches or any of their other public intervention would you miss the philtre and filter of Awo from these gentlemen. To parody Novelist Joseph Conrad, they are the sparks from Awo’s sacred fire, the messengers of the might within the man.

Already all of them are pursuing the legacy ideas of Awo: free education, free health services, infrastructural development, urban renewal and economic engineering.

Lagos has posted itself as the John the Baptist. The others are putting up valiant efforts, and the world of course is watching to see how well they will perform. It will call for great work, resourcefulness and cooperation. They are the real Awoists, and Awo was a man of rigour and vigour.

The Awo son that many expected to take after the father was Olusegun, who unfortunately died in a car crash. We shall never know if he could have pulled it off.  But the others have not shown much of the paterfamilias’ brio and depth. In the past decade, under this republic, they have blended with the wrong crowd. Even H.I.D, hobnobbed with Alao-Akala, who brought illiteracy to governance; with Oyinlola who turned the grace of office into a hell-hole of despots; with Daniel who could not arrest his quick fall into megalomania.

I wrote once that this woman whom Awo once described as the jewel of inestimable value has lost value to his cause. If he came back to life, he would have committed the extraordinary act of divorce after death. Even his newspaper, The Tribune, has so stumbled and fallen that it swims in Awo’s vomit.

Groucho Max, one of the funniest satirists in American history, said of a man that he got his looks from his father. Then he quipped, “He was a plastic surgeon.” That means the son is not his real son, or he did not inherit his natural looks. Ideologically, when we talk of Awo’s family, the chief inheritor is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the leader of all the others. He was the one who stuck his neck out. He could have lost his life or ended his career in politics. The so-called real Awolowos who bear his surname cannot come up for mention. They are Awolowos but not Awoists. They stabbed their father in the back. They have committed ideological parricide.

The only person that made a real try was Awolowo-Dosunmu in the early 1990s and she lost roundly. She was accused of trying to ride her father’s coattail. Political families are good for democracies. They can exemplify the high ideals of diligence, dignity, ideas, character. We have seen these in such families as the Kennedys, the Adamses, the Roosevelts, the Ghandis. They just don’t claim family. They appeal to the high ideals that endeared the families to their societies.

It’s also an irony that these families are falling into twilight. Some of them have vanished. Enoch Powell, a British MP, once gave us the famous line: “All political lives, unless they are cut off midstream at a happy juncture, end in failure because that is the nature of politics and human affairs.”

Columnist Ambassador Dapo Fafowora adverted to this idea in a recent outing, and I debated it with him afterwards. I don’t believe that a political life should be judged by how it ends but what it means. The quote is often missed by many who mistake “careers” for “lives.” A political life should be judged by its legacies. If we judged Awo by how he ended, we would look at him only as the loser to Shagari. That is why I see an intrinsic mischief in Enoch’s quote. But I would agree that political families end also in failure if you judge how they peter out and not the legacy.

Awo’s legacy is alive and well. Members of other families in flesh and blood can carry on. Immediate families tend to suffer from what an author, Noemie Emery, describes as dynastic curse. The children tend to be intimidated by the standards set by the fathers. So they just don’t want to try. They feel they cannot match them or come even close.  The problem probably comes from the fathers themselves. The Adams, who produced important presidents, later gave birth to moral vagrants and drunks. The Bush daughters showed themselves as party girls when their father was contesting the political battle of his life.

But Joe Kennedy groomed his sons assiduously, and they excelled in politics. They also had a fair share of tragedies. Ted Kennedy regained his sobriety and voice in America after a season of debauchery. In Nigeria, we are seeing the Sarakis fade. A Saraki – Bukola - is wiping out the Sarakis from politics. It is a classic case of oedipal tragedy, something I predicted earlier this year on this page.

It is not late though for the flesh-and-blood Awolowos to join their father’s fold. But they must be genuine. Awo was the most important Yoruba personage in history after Oduduwa. They had stellar men like Oranmiyan, Balogun Latosa, Lisabi, Sodeke, et al. None of them had the unifying vision and organisational acumen that Awolowo gave the race. The wife, children and grandchildren should not watch others glow in his jewel without them.

Which united South. You must be Dreaming. the SS/SE will never work with SW. We will rather work with the North. In fact, Nigeria really belongs to the East+North.
When the colonialists were leaving, they balanced power by giving the President to Azikiwe; PM to Tafawa Balewa, Army GOC to Ironsi.
The SW were never in national politics, they were regional players and social critics. The balance of power was altered due to the coup and war. The East lost out and the SW took its place. This explains why the SW were very mad at Jonathan for resurrecting the East. They were hoping to retain the North+West balance of power; hence their 2015 betrayal of the South. Unfortunately and judging from History, Yorubas have never lasted at the centre. They cannot match the North, mind for mind. Only the Easterners can and the Northerners know this.

Thus, there will be no Southern alliance in 2019. The North will destroy the West as always and they will return to the East. The North+ East balance of power will be Restored PERMANENTLY and the SW will live in eternal regret. They have the media and mouth-power to continue their role as social critics.

My brother I feel you.
But the way 2015 elections went, I don't believe anybody in the SS /SE will agree to teamup with the north.

The way the North has killed Biafrans twice will not be forgotten. First during the civil war and of late during IPOB protests.

Let's call a spade a spade, if the south does not team up first to counter the north, the consequences will be sever.

In the south we can squabble amongst ourselves later, but for now we need a united front to deal with the political assaults from the north and the coming Islamic jihad being planned.

Save Nigeria Group Plans Fresh Protest

Chief Oyibo News

Save Nigeria Group (SNG), a coalition of human rights and civil society groups led by Prof. Wole Soyinka and Pastor Tunde Bakare among others, next Wednesday (March 10) will organize a protest march in Abuja to demand the invocation of section 144 of the Constitution in resolving the lingering leadership crisis in Nigeria.

Also, the Action Congress (AC) has said the resort to the section 144 would not only solve the problem but also save President Umaru Yar’Adua from humiliation.

Section 144 of the Constitution requires the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to constitute a medical panel to determine if the President is incapacited to carry out his duties to enable the Vice President to take over and discharge such duties.

A text of a press conference on the state of the nation jointly signed by Buba Galadima, Yinka Odumakin, Osita Okechukwu, Mike Igini, Mallam Tanko and Mallam Salihu on behalf of the SNG, said Nigerians had been fed with falsehood for the past 100 days regarding the health of President Yar’Adua.

The SNG wondered how a man who was said to be having daily 25 minutes acrobics could come back and refuse to spare a minute to meet with acting President Goodluck Jonathan who had been holding forte for him since he went to Saudi Arabia for treatment.

“The alleged return of President Umaru Yar’Adua under the cover of darkness on February 23, 2010 and the refusal by his handlers to allow any person, including the acting President, access to him has further demonstrated the deep contempt the cabal that has hijacked the president to hold the nation to ransome and for the rest of Nigeria,” read the statement.

The SNG lamented the inability of the FEC to deliberate on the health of the President at its Wednesday’s meeting, stressing that such a deliberation would have led to the invocation of section 144 to resolve the leadership debacle.

Noting that such actions were direct affront on the dignity of Nigerians, the SNG said Nigeria had already become a laughing stock of the world.

As the way forward, the SNG resolved to embark on graduated measures, including the Wednesday’s protest and other civil disobedience measures, to retrieve Nigeria from the grip of the cabal.

“Our patience has run out as a nation as there is limit to how far a country can survive on good luck. If we want to retrieve our country back we must do the needful. To this end we have resolved to settle for these irreducible minimum:

“A constitutional resolution of the anomaly of an invisible President co-existing with an Acting President constantly undermined by the cabal by the invocation of Section 144 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria without further delay;

” Urgent electoral reforms with a wholesale implementation of the Uwais report as the benchmark to restore the integrity of the ballot box so that never again shall we be governed by a set of officials with dubious mandate like those who have taken us through 100 days of the theatre of the absurd;

“In furtherance of the above, the Acting President must urgently come up with a Harmonisation Committee on what the Senate and the House of Representatives are doing on the Uwais report;

“A non-partisan transitional cabinet of the brightest and the best from all corners of Nigeria must be put together by the Acting President to chart a new course for the country while the Presidential Advisory Committee can remain truly advisory as the nation requires new thinking and new thinkers; and

“Immediate implementation of the Public Procurement Act signed into law in 2007 by Yar’adua but which has yet to be implemented because of the sustenance of the corrupt tendencies associated with the weekly award of contracts by FEC,” read the statement.

Also, in a communique issued in Benin on Wednesday, after its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Constitution did not envisage an indefinite acting presidency.

“The mere fact that the President is right there in Aso Rock, whether he is fully conscious or not, is like a sword of Damocles hanging over the Acting President. Executive power is simultaneously vested in the President and the Acting President, and this is a recipe for confusion.

“The Acting President can neither dissolve the cabinet nor appoint new members into it. He cannot take bold actions, like dealing decisively with the electoral reform,” AC said.

It also said if today – God forbids – the Acting President takes ill or he is otherwise unable to perform the functions of his office, the nation will be thrown into another round of constitutional crisis, with terrible consequences.

“Simply put, the Acting Presidency as we have it now is like a car moving on three tyres, instead of four, and without an extra tyre….since there is no Vice President. The Acting President is at the mercy of the ailing President and his kitchen cabinet,” the party said.

It called on the Governors’ Forum, which seems to have emerged as a major player in the ensuing power show in Abuja, to use its clout to put pressure on the FEC (most members of which were nominated by the governors) to act fast in the interest of the nation.

“It is obvious that President Yar’Adua is not in a position to decide whether or not to resign on the basis of his health. Therefore, in order to save the President from a possible impeachment, which we believe is not the best option, the FEC should give him a soft landing by invoking Section. 144.

“Once that is done, the Governors’ Forum should also use their collective power to get the National Assembly to act fast on the FEC declaration, thus paving the way for Jonathan to become a substantive President so he can in turn act without constraints to move the nation forward,” AC said.

And you dare call the Yoruba liars and betrayers? You are ungrateful dolts.

The Yorubas will NEVER bow to northerners unlike the ibos who are readily subservient.

Infact, Yorubas have a saying that they'll rather die than bow to a Hausa/Fulani.

Yorubas have the presidency in mind while ibos are patiently waiting to be offered a VP slot. Doesn't that say a lot?

But given the Yar'Adua/GEJ scenario, the north may never risk it!

We have produced the president and won presidential elections on more than one occasion despite not being centrist in mentality. cool

Come on, we dont need the support of the SS/SE to achieve whatever we want in Nigeria.

Lagos, the country's nerve centre and only viable state, is firmly in our hands...

Mind you, there will always be Yorubas in the centre like Fashola and co who will benefit more at the centre than any Igbo ever would. Fashola may even be in PMB's mind as his successor...

Tinubu is super crafty but national politics is something far complex, brutal and lethal

The abuja power brokers are on a planned attack to cut Tinubu to size and I won't be surprised if they Rig aketi in to sound it clear who is boss

Tinubu somewhat fell for Buhari"s antics of being apolitical, who would give him free hand to cart away the spoils of victory; but buhari like a cunny fox played along and now when no when expected attacks systematically.

Tinubu's latest reaction to Saraki"s major release from the court wahala, which was pursued deliberately by the Abuja tink tank to pacify Tinubu, has no effect on these ruthless mafia

The trust is lost; these are mind games. They expect tinubu to read the signs that he can't be in abuja what he is in Lagos and Osun

Tinubu's best place is with this alliance with the North, as the SS/SE won't be in a hurry to team up with him even of he offers to join the chorus for resource control...though tempting they would rather Tinubu to deal with the proverbial lizards that come visiting after he brought home ant-infested gays

Even if/when he successfully rallies SW-SE-SS....assuming he's able to do so.....Tinubu's new political contrivance will still need to ally with strong NE-NW-NC elements to have nationally acceptable candidates for the centre under the current governance structure. Otherwise, he and his new imagined behemot political party will remain southern regional at best.
This signposts that we need all parts from all zones to work together effectively to change direction of political course at national level.
The aternative to the above would be a heavy precipitation and acceleration of regional agenda a.k.a true federalism in which the centre is weakend and rendered minimally attractive, while the regions are strenghthened and become very viable for expression of political sagacity.
Even true federalism requires all zones to be alligned and resolute in demand for it, the chances of making it happen is higher than that of southern 'gang-up' to 'deal' with the north as a bloc under unitary-federalist arrangement.
If worked at with tact and focus on 'life more abundant for all peoples', I forsee high possibility of the six geopolitical zones aligning to create a new political dynamics called 'True Federalism'
This to me, is a more viable political agenda for Tinubu and other leaders of thoughts across Nigeria to pursue in the days/months/years ahead.

Wounded in what way? He said a whole tribe is doomed and you want me to thank him. You guys are hypocrite and have short memory, is Fayose not a Yoruba man? Mimiko, FFK, Afenifere e.t.c are they not Yorubas? No one is asking for any southern crap but its you arrogant people insulting others for no reason. I hate hypocrites.

I understand you my dear. But the north is not attacking the whole south. They r bashing tinubu and the yorubas. So let the yorubas fight them alone. In 2019 elections, the south might 'align'. But let yorubas fight the north alone. It's very simple. Take heart.

I doubt that you are from the ss/se. If you really are, you will not be seeking the sw so early. Maybe you are from edo.

Lol cheesy

And what if i am from edo? An edo man is still more brotherly to you and less likely to kill you than a kastina man!

The unification must be now not later because trust me, the events that culminated in tinubus cutting down didn't start yesterday and must have been going on for long including the analysis on what effects it would have and how to counter those effects! The hausa/fulani behind this would have been canvassing for political support from both the SS/SE against when they deal with tinubu and must have their machineries in place in our regions already, but we shouldn't allow their machineries deceive us and this your anger towards the SW is what northerners are banking on! Control your anger and don't let it control you! Use your sense and let's unite!

are you minding those hate filled ones..

SW has VP, Finance minister, Fashola (very powerful portfolio) but they have nothing to show.. Even minorities have risen above them in National politics.

I dnt see the North forming ally with them again with d level of bias they displayed in 2015, only d deluded ones are here wishing. Too bad for them really

Shitgboes are funny people. Is Tinubu=Yoruba? The VP, Finance Minister, Fashola e.t.c are Yoruba. They are pained no one is talking about them, the SW just like the North are active in both APC and PDP, those losers were screaming marginalization few weeks ago, some biafra and even calling Buhari names but now ready to join APC. Shameless people.

OK sir. Continue calling them chess masters or they are your chess masters. As for me, they r chess learners. Herd mentality doesn't make people masters of anything. Individual skill does.

Remember we are talking about politics here and politics is a game of numbers above anything else and the herd will always defeat the individual in politics irrespective of that individuals skills!
We must unite and become a herd to counter the northern herd

There is no where in the article that they talk about SE but you will always bring your hatred everywhere, you have no shame that you have to attach SS to everything. When will you be bold to stand alone for once in your pathetic life.

What is this scratch face talking about?

When it suits you, you group the us with the SE.
When it doesn't you come with your stupid divide and rule.

Well let me tell you, we stand solidly behind the SE and the SE stands with us the SS.

When GEJ was in power his COAS was from SE.

Nzeogwu was from SS, yet the coup was termed an igbo coup.

When the NDA told the Dullard not to come to Ogoni, was it not through Radio Biafra?

Now why will Dokubo Asari be welcomed in Owerri, if we dont stand together?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMZcfPDAApE

Please this scratch face lie on your bed as you made it.

You chose the north, the north is now dealing with you. angry angry angry

We chose the SE, who are reliable and industrious grin grin grin grin

OK sir. We will unite only when the sw have finished fighting the north. 2019 is still far away. So for now, we are watching in 3D the battle between the sw and the north. Very interesting. Lol.
