I was dumbfounded. I couldnt say a word. I didnt know where to start from. Amen.
Yes, Amen had never had a good record with us. He was the black sheep of the family. At age 15, his mother had already started complaining about him. He hung out with bad friends in the neighbourhood and smoked.

Then at age 17, Amanda had visited home with him, her husband and the two daughters she bore for him..
Due to the closeness between the both of them, Mesonma also came home just to spend time with Amanda and her family since they hardly came home.

And when Amen came home, it was trouble trouble everyday. We all knew that he brought home girls everyday, what we or i never anticipated was the fact that he was sleeping with both Kelechi and Chinasa under the same roof and they never said a word!

Only God knew how many more of his cousins he'd also slept with!

That night, when i was sure everyone was sound asleep especially momma since she was always in the habit of checking everyone in their rooms before retiring to bed herself.
So when i was sure she had slept, i went to Kelechi's room. The moment i saw her sleeping soundly on her bed, my heart shattered and hatred grew in my heart for Amen and all i planned to do was just kill him the moment i got hold of him.

I tapped her gently 'Kele' She stirred in her sleep but didnt wake. I tapped her again and this time she woke up. I saw the fear in her eyes. I wanted to reassure her that i was not there to frighten her or anything but i came so we could talk.

I looked at her tenderly 'why didnt you tell me?'

She looked down.

I held her chin and tilted her face up 'look at me. Dont be scared. Just tell me the whole truth. Why didnt you say a word?'

'he threatened me' she said 'he told me he was a very dangerous person. He even showed me a gun'

'a gun?'

'yes. That was after i saw him with Chinasa, i threatened to spill the beans. He beat me up that day and even when Chinasa tried to speak, he hushed her up as well'

'Jesus. After all this happened, who did the both of you tell?'

'no one. We promised to keep it a secret'

'does Chinasa know that he bleeped...i mean, pardon my bluntness, but does she know he slept with you too?'

'yes. I told her'

'and you guys foolishly didnt say a word!' i gasped.

And if care is not taken, mumsi will hear about this and she'll call for a family meeting. Amen needs to be treated for all his fuckup! The last time i came, it took all my efforts not to beat the hell out of him, who is he highing for? That small rat of yesterday. Is he not just 20? I'll just break his head, he doesnt know me' i hissed loudly.

I just heard her sob 'sister, please dont do anything to Amen'

I heard something in her voice and i looked at her abruptly 'Kelechi, are you in love with him?'

She looked at me in shock, she opened her mouth to say something, then closed her mouth like a cornered rat.

'Kelechi!' i exclaimed 'how can you be in love with your own cousin?!' i placed both my hands on my head.

She started crying anew.

'no wonder you allowed him have his way with you. You love him Kelechi! Infact, i wont call that love because its obsession. Its never possible to fall in love with your cousin!'

She just started crying again 'sis, just forgive him. I already forgave him and i've moved on. I'm dating...' she paused and looked at me first probably reading my facial expression 'i'm dating someone else now. And i'm happy'

'and you have the stupid and shameless guts to open this cursed mouth of yours to tell me you're dating someone else? So i should clap my hands for you okwaya?'

She just sighed.

'Kelechi! You're too young to be dating. Though i started dating at a younger age, i wouldnt want you to make the same mistakes i made. Kele, please listen to me'

I got to Portharcourt at about 2pm. I was exhausted. I boarded a cab straight to the estate my sister lived.

When i got there i knocked.

And who opened the door for me was Junior, her second son.

'aunty Kamsi!' he squealed and jumped on me 'longest time'

'how are you dear? Where's your mummy?' He took my small travelling bag from me and we went inside.

'its no prank' i raised my head to see Chidinma standing by the door leading to the hallway 'its me Chidinma, live and direct' I was shocked to my bones.

We all thought Chidinma was never going to come back again. Not after father disowned her. Yes, Chidinma and i had always been cat and rats. She would always say i was saucy and didnt accord her with the respect she deserves and i'll always tell her respect is reciprocal, if she doesnt respect me as her junior, how then did she expect me to respect her too?
