A chemist shop is different from a Pharmacy. she must have shown warning symptoms such as Rash, sore throat, tongue swelling or fever after taking the injection. So whoever administered such drug is not qualified cos she should know the next intervention to take. Her relatives might av tried something else on her. I remember a lady who used 7 Keys on her sons body after he reacted to antimalarial. The guy developed Tens. Immediately you notice the symptoms seek care immediately don't try Over the counter drugs or remedies like palm oil, 7 keys.
Obviously she had a hypersensitivity reaction usually Steven Johnson's or Toxic Epidermal Necrosis (TENS; which is more fatal than SJs. It occurs with the use of sulfonamides e.g. Septrin. other drugs cld CX it depending on an individual genetic make up, immune status etc. With the collaborative interventions of the Qualified (Nurses, Doctor's, Dermatologist and Nutritionist). 2 months max she'll be fine. Finances' might be a burden sha.

Whenever something goes wrong it's not a MUST to blame somebody for it. Something else might have gone wrong about the child's system and not really because the nurse gave her wrong treatment. We don't have any facts yet to establish whether it's the nurse's fault or not.

This looks like a drug reaction,unpredictable sometimes even in d best settings,not from an expired drug.

Anti-maleria she called it. Not quite long ofeyinwa's skin change and it resulted into this, burns all over her face and body. Please let's pray for her quick recovery.

This girl had a slight sickness & was taken to a chemist where a nurse treated her. A while after, she came down with this reaction. Seeing the seriousness of the condition, she was taken to FMC where doctors diagnosed her condition & are treating her. She didn't go back to the chemist!!! !

Before you take Panadol to cure that headache I hope you do "proper consultation" first before taking it. Sometimes we just can't figure out who will react to what drug.

That's Steven Johnson syndrome. It could happen to anyone and in any part of the world. Why ll they take the little girl who is sick to chemist and why should a chemist be selling and administering injection?
The issue has to do with poverty and lack of good health insurance for an average nigerian.
Over 70 percent of patients goes to the chemist before coming to the hospital . They come to the hospital after compunding their problems and ready to blame doctors and nurses when is goes bad.

I guess a doctor was the one that made the diagnosis of appendicitis. Your sister MAY have presented with vague symptoms.

Steven Johnsons Syndrome, It can happen to some people irrespective of age or gender, however most of the cases I have seen in Nigeria are females with a history of allergies (Over Sensitized Immune System). Proper Pharmacovigilance should be carried out, quick recovery to the patient.

Is possible she had UTI and also appendicitis together.
Appendicitis is a clinical diagnosis which could be difficult to call If there is also evidence of UTI. When you treat the later or while on treatment you could make a better diagnosis. They are both differential diagnosis.
So don't be in a hurry to call it a misdiagnosis

this is not what called a lack of training ... mind you pharmacists & some chemists are the medication experts " Whether they work in hospitals or retail settings such as grocery and drug stores , an attention to detail is crucial since the wrong medication . The wrong dosage amount or the wrong dosing times can lead to negative health consequences

This is a classic presentation of Steven Johnson syndrome. Its not d nurse's fault.. The child is reacting to d sulphur content of d medication. Its a rare kind of reaction that happens to people. Drugs such as some antimalaria drugs contain sulphur....she should just discontinue d med and it will go, skin Will return to normal. Topical antibiotics should b rubbed on her skin shA Just to AVoid infection

The other day it was an untrained ''chemist'' killing a senator with doses of ethnical drugs and now this, yet nigerians would still not learn to be cautious with drugs and always see a licensed professional to determine if, which and what quantity that is needed.

a moving car causes the otholits( the organs in the human ear for gravity, linear acceleration and speed) to cause dizziness. as the car moves the otholiths continue to rotate.
because my own otoliths has a poorer ability to sense motion, stop and movement of cars. I begin to feel dizzy, then the fuel from the car reacts instantly and I throw up or vomit.
I feel a little bit comfortable only if the car is in a very high speed. constant speed. straight motion and all the windows of the car is opened.

People are busy shouting expired drugs or blaming the nurse. That's simply Steven Johnson's syndrome, a hypersensitivity reaction.. probably type 3. Treatment is symptomatic after the causative agent have been removed or stopped

What a very uninformed article. The child suffered an adeverse reaction nothing to do with the nurse or the medication. How are you supposed to know you are allergic to something without being exposed to it?
