The Minster of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday, explained the reason(s) Nigeria’s power situation is not as good as Niger and Benin Republic – countries Nigeria sell electricity to.

In his presentation at the Presidency Quarterly Business Forum, chaired by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, the minister said Nigeria “sells the power in exchange for a guarantee that they won’t dam the rivers that sustain Kainji Dam.”

The forum was attended by members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Economic Management Team (EMT) led by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

Eya, so you took the bait?
If actually they are helping Nigeria through ensuring our dams do not overflow, how come they still have to pay for our electricity?
Basic rule of life, do not give what you do not have!
Since I am your father's mate, it is safe to say, your father, all his brothers are stupid. You? you just dont exist.

I can see you are dam' stupid [pun intended].
Kanji dam generates a good percentage of our electricity. Stop selling to them and you've got no electricity at all.
Sanction who? On top their own river?

The National Assembly particularly Senator Goje and Saraki are the ones that caused the problem. They made those countries threaten Nigeria just to embarass Minister Fashola!

Nigeria spends on infrastructural maintenance and rehabilitation. They still have to pay to keep the damn dam running. Don't you pay for the power you consume?
All the nitty gritty and details of the multilateral agreement would have been clearly defined.
Get me a map disproving Fashola's claims or forever hold your peace.

Besides, you can never be my father's mate. Such distinguished men would never come on forums like these to talk about something they know nothing about and when someone puts them through in the best way possible, they result throwing cheap shades and shots at 'em.
GROW WISE . You too old for this.

Young man, you and Fashola make zero sense at all. If we pay for the infrastructure, we could as well pay for the maintenance of the Dam. You seem to think these things need rocket science to do. Whatever the togolese and benenoise have done to help channel water out of the dam or to keep it flowing, we have the capacity to do a 100 times over, so we can enjoy out total output, Instead of selling our generated output to them. It is not as if we are over serviced. simple logic, we sell to make money whereas we are starved.
If I need to tell Fashola or any government official what to do to make things work, then they do not deserve to be in government. if you choose to believe their craap then you are not ready for development.
Again, I am disappointed in Fashola. I can give him a full dossier of alternatives. But then, he is the minister, I am only a citizen.

Niger river has an elevation at Niger and Benin Republic, geographically ok for them to construct the dam, if we allowed that, we wont have anything and Niger wont give us electricity either.
I think Egypt and Ethiopia have a similar agreement on the Nile river. What do you know?

It is a win-win situation for all parties.

Yet they don't understand why Buhari is going after coal and renewables. Militants can bomb pipelines and strong arm government. This should have been obvious an export ban cant work easily with that threat.

How do you possibly generate electricity from stagnated water? Mr Alternative Physicist.

I should not be replying you because you obviously failed to read or understand or both.
The rivers from which water is flowing into our dam is situated in some of these countries and in order to prevent blockage and to keep the river flowing into our dams we need to sort of give them an incentive or some sort of compensation so we make them pay for the electricity just as you and I also pay.

We are not generating enough for ourselves bros. Why are we giving them electricity for just allowing water flow? Can't we give them something else?

I think it is because the FG is not serious about solving our electricity issues.

I guess they'll take a fistful of cash maybe. They need the power as much we do to develop.

It is a multi lateral agreement. They could have demanded for it.
Since you need me to keep my river flowing to generate electricity, then I also want a part of it which I'd be paying for.

This offer to Benin and Niger should be a short term thing bro. Replace it with funds or security or something else. But it has been on for years and our electricity issues has been on for decades bro. It shows the unseriousness of the FG.

how much MW are we generating? It isn't enough for you and I but our government is willing to share to other countries for money? This is not how countries that want to advance behave. It is laxity to agree to such demand.

No wonder Nigerians are suffering. We have a very poor thinking government. A government that doesn't care for its people. Do you think if Aso rock depended on that current its giving out, it will continue to give it out? But because its Nigerians that need it right?
