My brother got an injury from football (a mere bruise), after a while he developed severe fever. After treating the fever, he was fully healthy. Then in about less than two weeks his leg started swelling, treated yet nothing, the x ray showed his leg wasnt broken or anything, he had some tests like skin snip and others yet nothing.
We have visited numerous hospitals and even tried herbal medicine yet its still swollen..Only a doctor in national orthopaedic hospital was able to tell us he feel its lymph edema although from the way he said it, its likely he wasn't so sure.
Well, that actually sounds like lympedema. The essential story in this condition is that the lymphatic drainage ( system that takes fluids back to the heart) is blocked. Usually it comes as swelling in one limb, and it could easily get infected.
Some of the common causes are trauma (like that which your brother suffered), infection from some kinda worms(that's why you did a skin test).
By and large, its not too difficult to treat, he would be just fine.

Thanks Doc you are really doing a great job here..God bless you and doctors worldwide.
You say its not too difficult to treat; what treatments would you recommend because we have tried our best all to no avail and even the drugs prescribed to us at the orthopaedic hospital was as good as useless against the swelling. My family members believe its something to do with juju, but I believe it should be a medical problem, even though almost all the drugs taken as good as useless. But there is this prescription given to us by one old chemist only it reduces the swelling albeit it makes my bro urinate alot whenever he takes them.
Laxis , Nomoretic, b complex, predisalove, and ampiclox..From my research I think they are diuretics although I may be wrong..Sir are these particular drug combination harmful in any way especially when taken almost every week just to reduce the swelling?

Those drugs aren't to be used arbitrarily. They could do more harm than good, especially the normoretic. I'd advice you stop them, go back to the hospital. There are a range of treatment options depending on the severity of the swelling which I can't assess from here.
Treatment could be medications, a kind of stockings and even surgery in advanced cases.

My friend pls go to the ENT unit of a teaching hospital or FMC near you, this is Chronic Otitis Media with effusion and you risk loosing the hearing function of that ear. More dangerously, it could spread inward , leading to otitis interna and the more severe meningitis and other funny (but not so funny) head infections

Pls What Do U Mean By FMC? I Av Gone To ENT before and pls what kind of head infections are u talking about

You may need to visit the ENT unit of a teaching hospital near you. Persistent catarrh not amenable to conventional antibiotics is a pointer to some more serious structural problems.
For the purpose of this forum, a 'sleeping pill' is the little I can prescribe for the neck pain and stiffness, let's hope that gives some relief. Continue with the ibuprofen as well.
Okay thanks doctor. God bless you.

I don't want to blow all the medical jargons but there really are a number of nasty infections that can come about if this condition isn't treated asap.
FMC is federal medical centre.
I should state here that for the condition you described, its not what we'd just give drugs which you can buy from the chemist. You require a course of injections. The pus in the ear would also need to be 'washed out'. So you see, its no small procedure.

Based on what you described, that's just like scratching the surface. Are you sure that's all they did for you? And are you sure you actually got to ENT and not Out-Patient dept.
I think you should go back to them and tell them its not cleared yet.

I Told Them Everything And They Saw The Liquid And Did Test On The Liquid. I Did Ear Dressing Many Times, All They Do Is Wet A Little Rope With My Eardrop And Insert It Inside The Ear With Scissors And Then Remove It The Next Day And Put Another One. Infact Docs There Dont Listen To Somebody Before Moving To The Next Patient. The Highest Time They Spend With A Patient Is 3mins No matter The Situation. on the doctor note the only thing i saw was ear discharge on the middle ear

Its sad what you went through. I still feel you'd be better off when treated at the tertiary hospitals. Good enough, there are at least 3 of such centres in Edo alone. If UBTH isn't cool, then Irua specialist or AAUTH could be an alternative. The best of care and a lasting solution is what we're after

Ubth Doctors Are Quack Doctors. All They Do Is Recommend And Sell Their Hearing Aid To People Going Through Hearing Loss. Now I Know Why Nigerian Politicians Dont Treat Their Selves And Dogs In Nigeria. Infact U Know The Job More Than Those In The Hospital Receiving Free Salaries. And Wen The Govt Dont Pay For A Month They Will Begin To Make Noise. I Will Try Irrua Specialist

Hello doc,pls I have prob with my left ear.For almost a week now,it feels as if there's a blockage inside, the type of blockage you feel when you block your nose and swallow. So yesterday I visited a pharmacy and they gave me cerumol ear drops. The pharmacists believes it's ear wax,but I've applied the ear drop twice now yet no improvement. I've also noticed that there's a continous chirping sound from within the left ear, though I only hear the sound when there's no other noise. What help can you pls provide?

Well, have you had cough or catarrh of recent? Do you feel ill?
The chirping sound you hear is called tinnitus, its one of the pointers to an ear problem.

No sir, I haven't. I don't feel ill either.I had fever some weeks back, that was when I first noticed the sound, then it stopped untill about a week ago.I now hear the sound and also feel as if there's a blockage from within the left ear.

Best bet would have been to visit the hospital where we would use an instrument to look into the ear and determine the source of the ish. Nevertheless, this looks to me like wax impaction which is quite common in cold and humid weather. I'd say continue with the cerumol for another 3days. If no change, then you may have to do the needful.

All right,I wil do that. I've browsed on tinnitus.I see there's no known cure for it yet, which makes me a bit worried, though more enlightened.
Thank you for the advice and the info.

Tinnitus is not an illness, its a pointer to an illness as I said earlier. If the cause of the tinnitus is taken care of, the tinnitus would go away.

I suspect the cause to be music then,as I've played it lately(before the ear prob)more frequently than ever and I usually exceed the volume safety limit cry But I don't understand why it's only my left ear that has the problem.

Loud music is a very potent stimuli for excess wax production. And even for ringing noise in the ear. Just as no paired organs are entirely similar, same for the predisposition of the ears to problems

Coconut oil is the perfect way to treat nappy rash naturally.

There’s no risk of it making the rash worse, because it’s not full of chemicals like some store bought nappy rash creams.

All you need to do is apply coconut oil to the affected area. The thick oil acts as a barrier and prevents any further irritation, and the coconut oil will nourish and treat the irritated skin.

Coconut oil has antimicrobial, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and antifungal properties which help the skin to heal. It contains lauric acid (also found in breast milk) which acts on bacterial and fungal infections.

Symmetric brand of VIRGIN COCONUT OIL from Ghana is now in stock

Price:
1 litre= #3,500

Please doctor I have been having hbp since I put to bed six weeks ago. I was prescribed a week's course of hiclodopa which brought it down but at my six weeks check yesterday, it has risen again though I felt completely fine.
The doc prescribed hiclodopa again with nitrazepam and normodipin. I took them yesternite but was unable to sleep much because of the baby.
My problem is this: I woke up this morning with the most excruciating headache ever in my life and have to take painkillers to diffuse it.

Please doctor what should I do. I am scared to take the drugs again this night because I need to function for my family and they made me unable to do so.

Help!!

Good morning great doctors in the house.
Two weeks ago I had symptoms of malaria and I used Lonart. Few days after, which waslast week, I used an antibiotics -Amoxicillin(Beecham) which i felt could have been typhoid. The symptoms persisted.

I had to see a Doctor couple of days ago and was asked to run a test. Widal and Mp. The widal was negative while the mp was positive. The Doctor said it could have been as a result of a relapse of malaria.

The doctor prescribed a drug and I picked it from their pharmacy. Arthemed was d drug, same artemether and Lumefantrine class of Lonart I used. This will be the third day and the symptoms haven't gone.

What do you suggest,pls

If you have used lonart then artemed is unlikely to make any difference in the treatment. First you should do a qualitative malaria test (microscopy) to be sure of how much of the malaria parasites are in your blood. That would guide on the choice of antimalaria to use.
Secondly, amoxyl is unlikely to take care of 'typhoid'. Not in a long shot. Well you said typhoid was negative, so good for you
