LadyGuinivere:

Let me tell you what I read from in between the the lines. When you applied the first time, u claimed to be married. Now it's coming back to haunt u. If I'm wrong, apologies.
Well the answer to your question lies with u sir.
U said you were married. Only u know the form of marriage so only you can say the form of said marriage 's dissolution. You can check what qualifies as a marriage in Nigeria, the different forms.
So when you answer that, you can now know know your legal status now. Any marriage your contracted can be proved, even the traditional form.
So if you are not being honest, rethink your story. It won't wash

Thank you LadyG. I really do appreciate your effort and response. Since checking in between the lines as you said, I can call our relationship "domestic partnership" in line with the DS-160 form.

Please what's the best solution to my problem because I don't want to complicate matter.

Did you fill domestic relationship in this form? Like I said na u get answer?

I'm still filling the forms right now. I will be filling in single right there not even in a domestic relationship. Then if asked if I have misinterpreted... I would click Yes and state the wrong information I supplied not married as I stated in my previous DS-160

I guess I'm good to go with that.. I don't want any issues or headache...

Thank you all for helping me out with our appointment booking. I discovered that just within 3 days of not being able to successfully book an appointment a lot has changed in booking dates. Although I successfully booked but the dates is farther than we expected.
My question is how do I monitor appointment dates and time to monitor so that I can rescheduled another dates.
Thank you God bless you all.

One of the most important thing you can do for your sister is send her a copy of your passport and visa so she can take it to the embassy also am kind of not feeling good about you getting married on a student visa unless it's accepted even if it's accepted what is the probability that she won't do it when she's in U.S?
Thanks, I can send her a copy of that. I was thinking though, that they probably already have my records already since she mentioned me in her application. That's totally fine.

Oh, thank you. It is perfectly legal and accepted. My visa is active, until I am done with my program.

I would not also advise you to submit yet until you get a date. You can keep saving your DS160 form you will get 30 days grace and you can keep doing this until next year (make sure is not up to a year you paid for the visa) when it will be convenient for you to get a date and go for the interview before you submit, because your information may change and you may not have the opportunity to update your information once the form is submitted

I submitted my Ds160 form almost a year after I started filling my Ds160 form within this period, i was promoted and my job function also changed so i was able to update my data accordingly which also helped to boost my profile.

All the best

Please i have submitted by DS160 form and my training is scheduled for Dec 5th but the available booking date i saw is January 8th,2018..,but yet to pick one. So I now plan to attend the training next year March. How to I change the information on my submitted DS160 form to reflect my new arrival date??

Divaville:
Hello All,
I stumbled upon this thread from a google search a night before my visa interview.
I had been previously denied last year and was praying against a repeat.
I'm still at the job that i was at last year but I've been promoted and my pay is much higher, still single too. I decided to say i was paying for my vacation this time rather than staying with my sister and her family.
Here's the transcript of my interview earlier this week.
VO: Good morning, may i have your passport. Why are you visiting the US?
Me: For my annual vacation
VO: Are you single or married?
Me: Single
VO: Any kids?
Me: (Smiles) Nope
VO: How long do you plan to stay?
Me: 7 days, I am entitled to 20 business days each year for my vacation and I have used up 10days already but saved the rest for this holiday if granted a visa.
VO: How long have you been at your first job?
Me: Three years (Wondering how she knew it was my first job - must be from my initial application from last year)
VO: What do you do at your job?
Me: Lists responsibilities included my side hustle and volunteering job.
VO:How much its your salary?
Me: I tell her
VO: How often do you get paid, weekly, monthly, quarterly?
Me: Weekly, then i corrected myself and said Monthly but i get quarterly reimbursements for fuel/telephone costs etc
VO: Let me see your bank statements
Present them to her. She scans through quickly, i quip in...I was recently promoted and that accounts for the increase in pay you may notice. She nods and returns them to me.
VO: Have you visited other countries?
Me: I list all the countries, specifically informing her that i spent the first part of my annual vacation this year in the UK
VO: Are you traveling for medical reasons? are you pregnant?
Me: No I am not.
VO: Your Visa has been approved etc etc
Hands me a white document.
I thanked her, packed all my supporting documents into my folder and left.
It took less than 3 minutes.

Lessons:
Always fill your form yourself. (Last year I used an agent from hell,)
Be very honest about your job, income etc.
For single people, travel history especially recent trips can help your case.

I just thought to share my experience here.
Haven't posted on this forum in ages shocked

Hello ma
Congratulation on your visa. Please could you state how much you told the vo was your monthly salary and which statein the us you stated you would spend your vacation.
Thanks and God bless

Hi there, so my storey is, I intend to travel to America some time next year with my wife, she's been there couple of times for holidays, the issue is, I have never travelled to Europe or any western country, the only countries I have been to are Ghana and the UAE.
So can the house kindly advice me on steps to take in order to get a visa to America for holiday, having in mind that the British refused me visa, because they said that the funds in my account was more than what I was earning. Plus as at when I applied and submitted my documents was 3 weeks to my wedding so I had friends and relatives giving me cheques and cash. Kindly advice on what to do.
Regards.

Hello Good people. I'm one of the silent readers and observers. First I would like to thank you guys so much for your immense contribution to this forum Especially LadyG,  Omobendel, Seyewest etc. This is my second attempt having applied once previously in 2013 and was refused. I Read about the black lady in window 5 (now 6) that refuses a lot of visa and she truly lived to her expectation. All the while I stood in line, she did not dish out 1 single white paper. So back to the matter, Interview was for 8.45am

Me: Good morning

Vo: Good morning, may I have your passport

Vo: Why are you going to the us

Me: I'm going for vacation and tourism

Vo: Have you travelled before

Me : yes, to the UK and Dubai

Vo: Do you have your old passport that has the UK visa with you

Me: Yes,passed the expired passport with expired UK visas. Vo goes thru checking the dates

Vo: when was the last time you visited UK

Me: it's been a while, 2010 (I went to dubai twice in 2015 and 2016 but Vo did not ask anything about the dubai trip)

Vo: What were you in UK for

Me: for vacation

Vo: are you single or married

Me: I'm single, but I'm engaged

Vo : okay

Vo: What do you do

Me: Im the managing director of bla bla bla  and I also own a real estate company on the side where I market and purchase properties on behalf of clients

Vo: (types for a while) you said you are the marketing manager for bla bla bla?

Me: No, I own bla bla bla

Vo : oh okay

Vo: where in the us are you going?

me: New York

Vo: how long are you staying for

me: 10 days

Vo : (still typingggg) are you like traditionally married?

me: No,I'm just engaged

Vo : repeated what I said , just engaged

me: nodding in the affirmative, yes

Vo: (started typing again, longer than previous typing) Do you know anyone in the US?

Me:No

Where are you going in the US

Me:I answered again, New York

Vo: And what do you intend to do while there?

Me: I intend to visit some tourist attractions...

Vo: (cuts it) like which places

Me: like empire state building, times square, one world observatory...

Vo: Okay..

Me: (I was on a roll) Statue of liberty, central park, 5th avenue....

Vo: Okay okay

Vo:How much do you have for this trip including cost of ticket

Me:1.5M

Vo: will you be seeking medical treatement on this trip

Me: shook my head left and right while saying No at the same time

Vo: Okay I'm approving your visa.....I honestly didn't hear the rest , only saw her hand and the white paper. She gave me back my old passports and I was even asking her for the recent one coz I forgot she had to hold on to that for the visa. It was when she started laughing that it clicked which I also bust out laughing. As she said have a nice day which I responded and you too! While laughing on my way out lol

my profile,I'm 34 yrs, female,  engaged. Have two businesses and earn 600k plus per month. Although she didn't ask me how I much I earned neither did she mention anything about my dubai trip.

I guess this time,I was more confident and composed and my circumstances has improved compared to 4yrs ago. And one more thing, the column that asked us to explain why we were refused a  US visa. I stated the reasons (insufficient ties) but I also use the column to write that I believe my circumstances has improved ,I've a well settled biz and my whole family is here. Nothing too long, just a simple jara

Thank you guys once again and I wish all subsequent applicants best of luck

you cant change any inform on the DS160 form once its submitted. Since you are yet to book appoint, fill another form and contact support to update the new DS160 ID then you can book your date. I always advise people to pick interview date before submitting their DS160 forms so they can be sure all is in order.

Congratulations. I see the confidence in you defending your job. The VO want to mislead you about your job but you remain strong. All applicants should be ready to defend their jobs and must able to explain what they are going to do in States. Don't be surprise that the VO did not question you on your UAE visa, it's because she is satisfied already with your profile. Lesson for all; Fill your DS 160 form yourself and make sure you give as much as possible details in the section about your job duties. I wish you best vacation in NY.

I understand how it sounds, but we all got scholarships to study in the US and the UK (and my other brother got a work/study opportunity in the UK). Shouldn't we have taken the opportunity? We are only trying to advance our careers.

As for our Father, no you have assumed wrong oh. We take turns and travel back and forth a lot, also send money for his treatment and upkeep, like good kids should, as well as support our sister too. She really isn't "saddled" with taking care of him alone. Besides, he also remarried after our mum died - she died almost 20 years ago.

Thanks a lot for your input sir/madam!

Well, I only just chipped in, her strengths and perceived advantages, and it seems the message conveyed wasn't caught apparently. But I will just leave it at that going forward.... Good luck to your sister!

Did you misrepresent before? Be careful what you ask for.... There are parts of an application you know will very likely if not definitely come up during interviews, it is better you prepare for and reserve your strength for them.

You said you were "married" before, and now you are not due to things not working out and subsequent "breakup", neither can you pick "divorced" as it seems because this isn't documented because of the kind of "marriage" type you were into before if at all I got you right, abi? Despite this whole stuff sounding like a regular lie to me, I think you can fill "single" or even "divorce" and come up with a sound explanation for your choice during the interview.

But if what you did previously was that you misrepresented, it's a good path you have chosen to state it as is. Dig? Regards....

Yes this is the right thing to do. fill single and state that you misrepresented before because you were in a domestic relationship and you called it marriage. Once you own up to your previous misrepresentation, you still have a chance if your current ties are good

She didn’t get the visa.

I don’t have a full transcript cos she’s rather upset but it went something like:

***********************
VO: Why are you travelling to the US?
Her: I have been invited by my brother and his wife to their traditional wedding and the blessing of their union. This is taking place at *****, close to the home of the bride in line with tradition. My brother is doing his PhD in ***** at the university of *****, hence the contact address on the application. They legally got married on September *, 2017. I am on the bridal train and she has written me a letter of invitation together with the invitation card for the wedding.
VO: What do you do for a living?
Her: I am an investment analyst working for *****.
VO: Have you ever traveled outside Nigeria?
Her: No I haven’t
VO: How long have you worked for *****?
Her: Since Feb 2015, and I’ve gained a lot of valuable experience from the transactions I’ve worked on.
VO: Are you married?
Her: No I’m single, but I have a brother and his own wife and children, and a father, in Nigeria...
VO: (interrupts) Do you have any family in the US?
Her: My brother is my only direct relative in the US, but since he is now legally married to *****, she too is my relative.
VO: (types away at the computer for a long while)
VO: I’m sorry you do not qualify for this application in line with US immigration laws.
***********

This is very disappointing. I’m really gutted about how so many people have tricked and cheated the system over the years, and continue to do so, that now genuine and honest people keep getting falsely flagged.
