The market was bullish in 2012, the market moved up 35% to close the year at 28079.

Unfortunately I stopped my research in 2012, and I also explained the factors responsible for the bull run of 1984 to 1996, the bear walk of 1997 to 1990.

The bull run of 2000 to 2007, the bear of 2008 to 2009, which I shared on SMN.

NSE index

2001 ended at 10,963.11 Highest was 11.358.91. Lowest was 8.163.26

2002 ended at 12,137.72. Highest was 13,005.05. Lowest was 10,173.50

2003 dont have the year end. Highest was 21,147.24. Lowest was 12,140.27

2004 ended at 23,127.38. Highest was 30,703.46. Lowest was 20,257.44

2005 ended at 24,085.76. Highest was 26,221.90. Lowest was 20,682.37

2006 ended at 33,189.30. Highest was 35,068.84. Lowest was 23,145.13

2007 ended at 57,990.22. Highest was 57,990.22. Lowest was 33,163.94

2008 ended at 31,450.78. Highest was 66,371.20. Lowest was 28,085.01

2009 ended at 20,827.17. Highest was 31,450.78. Lowest was 19,803.60

May I not be found to be one derailing this insightful thread, but let me leave you with the words of Jesus Christ, because you fit perfectly to it:

"Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying: 2  “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of Moses. 4  They bind up heavy loads and put them on the shoulders of men,+ but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their finger.
Please put this matter to rest

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut up the Kingdom of the heavens before men; for you yourselves do not go in, neither do you permit those on their way in to go in." Matthew Chapter 23: 1, 2, 4 & 13

I am visibly shocked and bewildered by the depth of your ignorance of the Scriptures even as a so-called pastor cry If you are interested to know the Truth about the God who says he created ".... wine that makes man’s heart rejoice." Psalm 104:15, let us move to Religion thread. The worst thing for a man is to LIE in the name of God or misrepresent his inspired word.
Please put this matter to rest

Thank you sir, the price of crude oil was a major factor, good economic policies also played a major role.

Someone with 200k and borrow 400k is not different from someone with 200m who borrowed 400m.

Fact remains that people will always try to maximise their profit and there is nothing BAD in it. People should however learn to manage their risks based on personality, age, risk tolerance etc.

When the bulls are around, people throw reason out of the window. Focus will be on the profit to be made and they forget about the possibility of losses. In doing that, they break all the common rules of investing. They beat their chest about how wise they are. Unfortunately, when things TURN like it always do, they express shock at the turn of events.

The thing about Emma is that he keeps quoting NESTLE and NB whenever he preaches about long term being far better. CADBURY was once as good as nestle (in terms of fundamentals) before they went under (down below). The man that invested in NESTLE could have also invested in CADBURY.

As far as NSE is concerned, I don't believe in long term. Maximum for me is 1 year (depending on the season) sometimes 24 hours. I once made serious dough trading FCMB almost daily (buying and selling same day) and this went on for over 2 weeks (Thanks to FCMB market markers though).

Prices will always reverse.

Long term does not mean you go to sleep. Even with long term, you need to scan what is changing in the landscape. If the fundamentals changes, you need to respond. When you don't trust the management/board of the company, you need to opt out. Many people are buying shares of companies now who are managed by 'crooks'. Of course, the bulls are here so nobody care. When the euphoria is over, reality will dawn on people.

If you bought a company producing typewriters and the company did not respond to the changing landscape with respect to popularity of computers for example, soon that company will be worth nothing.

The market will ALWAYS recognise value. It is just a matter of time.

You have just put "Long Term" approach in the right perspective! All I keep hearing is how teachers bought shares in the 70's and became billionaires.

We had a discussion severally years ago (you may not remember) about RTBriscoe, then fundamentals were good when at share price of N4.00. I had the shares then and after discussing with you, you confirmed what I had in mind. Things changed later and I had to drop the shares pretty fast, I don't know if you did as well but knowing you, you must have seen the signs before I did.

When we paint a picture of long term, we need to make full disclosure for newbies that might not fully understand.

MSCI ADDITION FOR 17 JANUARY 2018

Below is the movement in the MSCI Nigeria Portfolio yesterday. It was observed that the top two additions in terms of portfolio weigh are FBNH and Diamond Bank.

It should be noted that the movements can be relied upon. The Fund is highly regulated and disclosing this type of information is required by the regulatory authority of the Country where the fund is domiciled.

I have found this information extremely useful, it has some fundamental reasons behind it, while I used it in a technical nature by the application of the statistical process of comparing the data between various dates and looking at the change in weight of the portfolio. I can confidently say that I don't bother my head so much about some dead news available all over the place. this like news behind the news.

Caution: Investing is a risky venture. This is just my opinion and I cannot be liable for any loss suffered as a result of following this recommendation All data used are assumed to be correct, but you may need to verify some of the figures independently.
