New routine was when the baby was born. I changed jobs, moved house and changed their school.

They wake up 6am. Take their baths, brush, eat breakfast and play. School bus is 7:45am. 10am, my baby has his first nap and 2nd by 2pm. Return from school by 4:00pm. Eat, homework and then lesson. This estate doesn't have that many kids their age so they usually play in the compound till 6:30pm. Baby would have completed his own routine which was eat, bath, brush and then back him whilst singing till he sleeps by 6:30pm.

The older kids eat, bathe, brush and then we watch 7pm news together. By 7:30pm, they go to bed but usually sleep by 8pm as we would gist a little and pray. Weekends are more lax as they do whatever they want until bedtime which is usually earlier.

Í have to add that I have a nanny and someone who cleans up. No tv during the school week except for 7pm news. My older son has now formed the habit of waiting up till my husband gets home regardless of the time. Still watching how that will turn out. No matter how late they slept the day before, their internal clock wakes them up by 6am. No sleeping in for me.

Ah mama you are one strong woman oh!

This routine seems* lighter or maybe easier is the word than the first and earlier routine!

Do you make them summarise the news after watching? cheesy I have immediately decided to add news to our evening schedule lol

I like the fact that there is some outside play time included in their daily parole. Would you say there is some sanity in the home because of the routines? Asides the basic and normal children exuberance are thier temperaments generally good from day to day?

Do you coordinate the nanny and cleaner even while at work ? Or they know what to do? (We will discuss domestic helps and managing hopefully in the near future )
Thanks for sharing and God bless you greatly

Thanks for inviting me Babythug smiley, how's your garden doing?

You're welcome and hope you enjoy your stay here!

The garden is thriving I guess, it's the weeding that is driving me nuts!!! Don't have any help per se and I do it myself because many of the plants are still at an infant stage, dont want them uprooted by "error"

My own twins sleep by 11pm thereabout everyday. The earliest is 10pm. While the older kids are asleep. They don't let me rest or sleep either and most times I put off all lights. I'm so exhausted With their energy. I can't explain. Let me show u what they do when I put them in their bed. This is tonight.

Chai. See energy. @Sayoberry, pele. Try to reduce their afternoon naps and let them play a lot before bedtime. A friend said she found that separating her twins at bedtime did the trick. The more quiet one would fall asleep easily so she only had 1 to deal with. When he didn't have an audience, he would eventually sleep off.

I've tried separating them but it doesn't work. The other twin will come looking for the first. They just slept now. Separate beds same room. And tomorrow they should be up by 6pm. The only nap they have is from sch back home like 30 mins.
Re: The Graduation Spot And Other Room! by blank(f): 11:31pm On Feb 06, 2018
@ babythug, the 2nd is easier because their school is closer home and I get home earlier. Outside play is key because it helps burn off extra energy. I make sure they run, play ball, box, anything to make them tired.

The routines help them to be consistent. They feel sleepy at around the same time even when we go out. They also know what to expect everyday so no ridiculous requests. They have energy, plenty energy and are very playful. The routines help curb it a bit as they know that weekends is the best time for that.

My helps have been with me for above 4 years so they already know what to do. Food timetable is followed, everyone knows what and when to do stuff. So I'm not thrown off balance.

For the news, I go with the flow. I might ask questions based on what I know was in the news. If I join them early enough, we talk through it. It was earlier on I had them summarize for me and it never worked! They didn't want to write so it made them run from it.

I have learnt a lot of parenting tips from Nland. Always willing to share. God bless you too.

Typed an epistle and it got wiped off ..

Anyway we have found a a project for this topic (pun intended) title is getting the sayoberry twins to bed on time. cheesy

Do you watch channel 177 on Dstv?there's a show that deals with parenting and shares real life examples. Also google up Jo Frost she's the child whisperer of Britain she has many great videos they may be on you tube.

Also we are gonna need to begin to set up a cut off time for them to be in bed, we will cut back an hour each week till we achieve a time that you like. I'm working towards 8pm for my smallie.

Do they take packed drinks caprisonne and the likes? Lollipops ? That may contribute to hypernmode from what I hear.

Also what time are they up in the mornings? What exactly do they do in school? Is thete nap time in school and for how long?

Will be back head hurts

Tonight has been chaotic. Didn't get my schedule right today

@Sayoberry,

You can try putting them in separate rooms just till they overcome this late sleeping. You could also try heavy suppers, doesn't have to be permanent. Then when they return from school, let them play very well. Running, ball, trampoline, anything for at least an hour.

Before na only.police dey greet happy weekend sir/ma... Now we all* use the phrase lol

No new reviews on this bedtime matters?

Onegai we haven't heard from you oh!

Anyways I'm not going to give up even though it didn't exactly fall into place this past week I'd keep at it in the coming week. to help myself I've squeezed out some extra cash and bulked shop and will bulk cook this weekend God willing to help ease the evenings and so on! Fingers crossed...

The next hurdle to cross is being ready to church on time on Sunday mornings ! The people who successfully do it how do you manage it?

I know packing diaper bags the day before and refusing to be dragged down by your maid or nanny and thier sloppiness when you're in a hurry is one way to go! Do come in and share your tips!!!

The number one thing i do is to wake up early. My alarm is set for 5am if we are meant to leave 8am.
If we are meant to leave 9am, my alarm is set for 5:30am.
While dh and baby are still in dreamland, I fix breakfast, make baby's food, pack his meals and our lunch, cus we come back late and can't afford to be eating out all the time.
I boil his bathing water and keep in the flask. By the time I'm almost done, they are both awake. Dh helps take off baby's clothes and prepare his bath. I bathe him, while dh bathes and dresses up.
By the time he is done, I go in to bathe while dh dresses baby up but doesn't wear him his clothes. That's the last thing we do before heading out cus he will end up soiling his clothes.
We all have breakfast, take a selfie and then head out.
I guess that's a summary of our Sunday morning routine. Lol

Thank God for this thread and the first topic which is sleep routines. My son will be 2 years old on Thursday. In order to establish a bedtime routine which ended up not working, then we were still nursing before bed, I had to get into bed with him. Now we have stopped breastfeeding but that pattern has remained. No matter how sleepy he is he won't get into bed on his own to Sleep. He would rather wait till I get into bed with him. Please how do I break this pattern?

Welcome on-board!

I can only suggest a gradual withdrawal ie if you lie in the bed with him switch to sitting on the bed and then sitting on the floor and next to a chair and then out of the room!!!

Good luck

Hello mamas.

I haven't adjusted my routine. We now sleep by fire by force when its 10pm. But it involves loads of cuddling and petting. "My babies, come and hug mama"

Two days ago I went thru one major episode with them. One of the moments I dislike most- when they start to cry uncontrollably at once (makes me want to run away)

My morning routine is scattered all over the place. I'm not a morning person at all. But all in, I'm still sane grin

As I write this I am sat comfortably while my little boss madam snoozes off.

When we weaned off night breast feeding and carrying to sleep, I would have to lie with her on the bed ( double bed in the spare room _ Yes she has her own room oh complete with a cot bed and all...... story for another day.) But she used to take FOREVER to sleep . Sometime sef in the middle of cuddle to sleep. The next thing I hear is hubby's voice " are you sleeping too?"

So in other to get her to sleep quicker I started backing her........ And it worked like a charm........ she would be out in 5 mins. I get to chill with oga small, finish tidying up and have a bit more of a relaxed evening. Very nice.........

........... but as some little human was nearing 12kg and my back nearly come and break we had to change the routine back. I Kent die!

So now we are back to chilling beside her while she finally sleeps, before I sneak off and leave her.

What I try to do is to finish most of the evening chores in the kitchen at least before we retire to bed usually by 20:30 - 21:00. I let her run around well beforehand and usually no cartoons after 19:00. We have a bottle of warm milk, kiss everyone goodnight, do a wee in the toilet ( potty training thingz) go to bed, say prayers, read a book (she asks to do another wee trip undecided). Then I turn off the lights. ( then maybe another wee trip to the toilet to wee a microscopic 2.5ml of wee... angry angry)

On a good day we sleep within 20 mins. Some other days .... if you like off the moon join the light! Somepeople eye go still dey shine! - so on such days we have to do cuddle to sleep, plus singing. And she will even start giving you playlist sometimes. Sing....Twinkle star, .....abcb,.... baa baa baa sheep........
Like seriously!!! cry

Even when she sleeps I stay for another 30 or so mins and I usually use the "down time" to catchup on some emails, or do some computer work or crochet or just chill a Bit, gather my own self and thoughts as I have been on a buzz all day.

So whilst I still think children that you just carry and put in their beds are fictitious, this routine works for me for now. As she gets older maybe we will EVENTUALLY get to a stage where I can put out the lights and leave the room when she is still awake and my neighbours won't come and break the door asking who is putting pepper in someone's eye. Lol!

Hello everyone. Mum of 5 here. No routine, no time table, one messed up mother. I haven't done my hair in 2 years. First child 8, 2nd 6, third and fourth 3 and last baby 1.(Hope I'm not ranting much)

I have no nanny, help. I used to try to be all perfect and all. Wake up cook, clean before office but I started looking like a mess. Hubby helps but it's not easy having toddlers mehn. most times when I have to travel due to work, my hubby takes care of the kids and all. I have tried to be organized a bit but my toddlers don't make it work. And the nature of my job is the kind my boss can say "start packing, traveling in a week"
I remember one time I was told to pack 7 hours before flight.

Working mums, may God bless our hustle

. hugs!
.will be back to comment properly soon!

Thanks for this. I pray he changes soon. The disadvantage of this pattern to me is that most time, especially when I still have a lot of work to do before bed, once I get into bed with him, I will sleep off too. I need him to go do his own thing.
