Is this scientifically proven or did it just came from your brain?

Compared to yam, foofoo, spaghetti, noodles or garri, rice is the least to make you get fat. Rice can hardly make one get protruding tummy. This is a fact.

Quaker Oats, bro. I chose oatmeal because of the fiber but beans is also a good option. As for yoghurt, you might want to use Peak milk without sugar or Cowbell with sugar. Avoid Bournvita, Milo and bread. In short, adopt beans as the standard breakfast, add whatever you like to it except bread and sugar. Corn is a good addition, I'm not sure about fried plantain but the oil might get too much.


Eat whatever for dinner, just in moderation and before 6pm.
Why should people avoid cocoa drinks?

I did not mention any keto diet
Not all calories are equal as far as weight gain is concerned.

The fact is 20 year man has different dietary requirements from a 45 year old man.
The latter has a greater propensity to visceral fat which is fat surrounding the main organs in the abdomen.

My question is does oatmeat perform the same way with other cabohydrates with an equal calorie content? In other words is there any merit to the advice to avoid white bred and white rice or does it not matter as long as the calorie content is the same?
Na now u come. white bread has been proven to have more calories. Don't stress on this calorie thing.

Brown rice, brown bread has been shown to have less starchy content, so besides just calories reduction, it's nutritional value is of the essence.

As for metabolism. Metabolism depends on so many factors
- age
- sex
- height
- weight
- even activity level.
I like to equate metabolism like your body engine.
Various websites can help calculate yours

as you age, your body weakens, so your metabolism drop, as your metabolism drops your calorie intake should drop as well in order not to put on weight.

Now there are things we can do to raises metabolic rate, exervise being one of them and the most recommended.

Some people have very high metabolic rate that they can eat much and not gain weight, it's genetics. But as they age their high metabolic rate decreases, so if they keep eating as much as they did they will put on weight.

The true objective should be losing weight in a HEALTHY MANNER. I can eat chocolates all year round and lose weight but I would be killing myself health wise. I believe this answers your questions on OATmeal.

You will have to find out which nutritional value does oat meal give over garri or wheatm

What I was trying to clarify was whether oatmeal specifically has any superiior performance compared to other carbohydrate when it comes to weight gain for equivalent calorie content.

Such claims have been made for wholegrain bread/rice ovver white bread /rice.
So calorie equivalence does not mean that the body has an equivalent efficiency in extracting calories from different foods

The fact is if your main source of calories is sugars then your risk of weigh gain is higher than if it was protein.

This is where the role of hormones like insulin come into play.

The human body is not a perfect thermodynamic system. That model is very pedestrian

You're right though. I just like oatmeal because of how full it leaves me, I learned it nutritional benefits later. But still, it's a good breakfast meal and I've seen the results

Go on a strict protein diet for a week. Eliminate rice totally and you'll see fast changes. That's what I'm currently doing and I'm amazed.

For protein, eat beans, moimoi, ekuru, chicken breast...just alternate them like that for variety.

As in between meal snacks, eat fruits like carrot (it's filling).


Ekuru is my new favorite. Less flatulent. No salt or oil.

So You do not take carbs at all?

Actually pure cocoa powder has about 1.5 times as much protein as eggs . It is quite bitter and generally not very palatable but if one can tolerate that it is a very useful addition to the diet and good for manpower allegedly

It is not to be confused with stuff like Milo and Bournvita which are heavily loaded with added sugar. and additives.

Oatmeal is a luxury for most Nigerians .

I think drinking garri with groundnuts akara moinmoin is a more accessible alternative for ordinary Nigerians like me.

Cut off processed and white foods. Eat a lot of whole and fibrous food which are unfortunately hard to find in Nigeria. Apart from beans that are grown at the moment with dangerous chemicals in the name of killing the weevils and maximising profit.

It is a good you trying to cut down in size because fat is cancerous,it is a preventable terminal disease.

Garri is loaded with fibre

There are many healthy food in Nigeria, Plantain, yam, sweet potatoes, carrots, Ugwu leaves, groundnuts.

Do you know that if you had o eat one food alone and nothing more for 30days then few things are superior to grounddnuts which has double the amount of protein in eggs( very few people know this).

I understand losing weight is 70% dieting and 30% exercise, so I need help to know the meals I need to avoid and what I need to take also to help shed some of the weight. I'm really keen on dropping down to at least 72 by the end of this year.

I do my sit-ups and I have cut down on my late night meals but I'm not seeing much improvement.

I think u should check it up here on Nairaland. someone gave us a good method on how to slim up within 18 days. if u are able to get it, u will look like broom stick within 10 days of trying out his method.

I do not agree the groundnut pimples thing. Its a myth grin grin. Boiled beans is just as good as akara
Anyway age is also important. I believe folk above 40 need more protein and less carbs unless they are physically active. Also important to avoid carbohydrates after lunch and at night as these are more easily converted to body fats than proteins or even dietary oils/fats

ELiminate carbs as much as possible. Replace your carbs with healthier alternatives in fiber and veggies. You might wanna go for a keto diet.

Stop rice. Eat oats and lots of veggies. Eat more proteins like beans.

If I were to take your advice...Give me oats and milk and I'll just be sleeping my life away...beans? You like a farting fiesta? Lol.

Cut off fries, snacks, soda (minerals). Eat lots of fruits and veggies. Eat before 7:00 pm.
Eat normal breakfast, good lunch and very light dinner. QED

Learn portion control first before you try any form of dieting or exercising. It’s not what you eat it’s how much you eat and when. The business of earring mountains of anything and seas of soup or stew especially late at night that needs to end. Portion control means cutting in half what you usually put on your plate. And ratios when you are hungry not because it’s time to eat.
Then start to drink more water if your urine looks like Bigi Apple drink you don’t drink enough.
If you drink alcohol that needs to be addressed as well.
If you can start here then you can work towards the physical part.

This is a sound advice. OP you if you take in more calories than your body can burn then you won't lose weight, dieting, exercise and whatnot won't help you

Lol..I don weigh 90+,85 and my least weight I noticed was 75kg and I've never looked fat...me wey dey find as I go enter 100kg and hit the gym...but stop eating too much..best I eat is twice daily...I whole heartedly skip lunch and breakfast most times.

I disagree, I've experimented with my face. A day after munching on nuts, I see the results in the mirror.

The carb and calories stuff should vary directly with the activenss of a person, just don't take more than you need.

Pounded yam
Rice
Bread
Gala
chin chin
pork
amala
Also avoid,
coca cola, malt, all sugary drinks, salad cream, milk, meat pie, groundnut, beer and wine.
I also recommend you drink lots of water, little exercise, eat vegetables and fruits when you are hungry and dance a lot to good music. Thank me later
