Even by UK standards she was just getting by on 1800 pounds monthly. So don't do the direct conversion.

She sacrificed for love but harsh realities have reconfigured her oblongata.

Naija is tough and no food for uninventive man for Lagos. You either shape up or ship out.

Nigeria needs creativity now and not some kind of employee situation.

No lamentation would change that.

I'm sure that her savings from the 1800 pounds in the UK will be more than her savings from the 27,000 naira in Nigeria assuming that she is living the same life style, direct conversion or not.

Nigerian employers are very mean. Imagine deducting a thousand for coming late. I wonder how much will be deducted if she's absent from duty. That's why i encourages young graduates to seek alternative means of livelihood other than white collar jobs.

Most definitely.

27K Naira can take you nowhere.

But this issue of work in Nigeria is for all Nigerian citizens and not only the government.

We need creativity (Not like Offa or Yahoo) to survive.

Everyone is waiting for someone else to create work.

Where is that done?

It is a serious national issue and a disaster waiting to open. It is good to create a job but is this how every citizen in abroad (USA, UAE, UK, Canada) are creating work on their own? No. Many are working for other people and getting paid hourly, weekly or monthly.
If Nigeria resources are being utilised the same way developed countries are doing, there would have been jobs for many people. The idea that every graduate and non graduate creating job and be their own bosses is not just possible anywhere in the world.
A graduate who has entrepreneurship skills still needs support either from the government or family to get started. Where is that support?

Why don’t you try understanding something before jumping into conclusion? She earned that equivalent in the Uk, it’s fair she should earn almost half of that in Nigeria
Don’t quote for the sake of quoting if you don’t have anything meaningful to say.

Look at you.
How could you say he earned 31 times more in the uk?

That's after converting to naija exchange rate. Does she spend in naira?

You just lack a smattering of economics.

Don’t even start something this morning. Yes she earned that amount in the Uk monthly. At least it was enough for her. In Nigeria here, what can 27k do exactly. No tell me. Why is she then running back to spend that since she won’t be saving much? Please stop talking like you are smart because your comment doesn’t show it.

Several ladies leave similar paying jobs abroad to join husbands in Nigeria. I know a friend whom since she left her Barclay's job and relocated, still hasn't found a job 2 years after in Nigeria, she's just house wife, but she's happy being with her husband.

The comments I'm seeing in this thread though; is it poverty mentality or just greed?... How is the lady foolish for giving up her 5000km away job to be with her husband?... Which is more important, her minimum wage £20k job in the UK or her marriage/home?

Nobody is asking everyone to be an entrepreneur. However, it is the private sector that innovates and creates not government. All the world over it is the same.

Apple, Amazon, MTN, Globacom, Dangote, Olaiya food canteen are examples of private sector jobs.

Talking about the disaster being imminent, man, it is already upon us.

We must all, collectively, have a different way and approach to wealth / work creation.

No government can create jobs for 100 million people.
It is impossible.

If she working £7per hr, and she works 10hr per day, then 30days a month, my dear that is approximately £2100 in a month, multiple it by N470. It's very close to a million a month which graduate in Nigeria earns such a amount?

If it is true minimum wage is £7 per hr, I might considere relocate to UK

Well she is not yet married to him, so it doesn’t count. I am not among those women who sees marriage as making it in life. Don’t misinterpret this. I have my priorities. One thing I am very confident about is that i don’t want to suffer in marriage. Two people can’t be broke in marriage.

I'm a bit confused whether this is just greed, poverty mentality or just the typical African inordinate ambition for living abroad. If not, what is wrong with a woman returning to Nigeria to be with her husband? I know several women who do that regularly.

Or are you expecting them to be married and living 5000km apart?... Anyway, I think every human reasons in a different way and has different priorities. I personally kniw a Benin couple that have lived apart for 8 years now since their marriage simply because the woman lives abroad and they both would rather the marriage continue like this for life than for the woman to return and be with her husband (who hasnt been able to secure visa). One man's meat is truly another man's poison.

If the story says 'fiancee', I would imagine a wedding may be around the corner. So when the wedding happens, what next? They live 5000km apart because 'living abroad' is more important than your home?... Anyway, I know several people who wouldnt mind that.

OP she was not doing well in UK . The value of GBP27k per annum is not equivalent to the value of NGN850k per month. That's how you now OP's who have no experience of currency values/living costs across different regions of the world.

Truth. The government itself is not helping matters, if you have ideas, they don't help with funding.
