modified: my mind was right afterall. the post is trash

seriously what's with these ish about doctors stay in nigeria, doctors travel to europe, doctors do this, doctors do that. i mean y'all should fvcking stop these nonsense talks. i have two cousin doctors. big working class doctors, one already owns his own hospital at asaba, the other just got married and bought his first house. They are both doing well here.

Stop twisting people's mind with these stupid posts on nairaland.
If you want to work in nigeria as a doctor, good for you.
If you want to travel abroad, good for you too.
Stop giving us unproven facts like 1 doctor to 6000 nigerians, those are all estimates does not mean it is happening in reality.

everyone wants to leave the country if opportuned so what's the biggie about doctors leaving in particular.

if you are a doctor and not comfortable here, take your license & move. Nobody cares
despite having doctors in ur family, you still sound illitrate. So all a doctor needs to accomplish in life is to build a private hospital that will only reign for a few years and marry abi? career fufillment cannot come from practicing in nigeria, unless you treat the wealthy

Dont worry, when you have something as simple as appendicitis, you can walk to the consultant pharmacist to treat you. Good day

we wish them safe trip...i think Nigerian govt should make all medical student sign a bond to work in Nigeria for 15 years cos the are tution free trained by our tax money so if u want to go abroad pay bk our bond or go to a private university

We'll gladly pay the bond of 15years and do rubbish, by the time we kill enough patients, nobody will tell them to let us go.

Remember what happened to Pharaoh? We'll intentionally kill you all so that you'll free us by force. You think to work in Nigeria is by force?

Rubbish!

You're right bro. If they all eventually go, which is my wish since most of them are not good enough. We will then get aid from humanitarians and volunteer doctors abroad who truly care about human lives. This is the best deal we can get, because for now the present crop of doctors have little value for human lives. It is my wish that they all go so that we can get mostly humanitarians working here to save lives

Thanks for your prayers brother, may God bless you...I pray your wish comes true so I can get the hell out of this shithole.

I never knew Nigerians still love us like this and what our well being sha...even wishing we escape this shithole.

God bless you brother. .

U are so right on point concerning the post , the day I determined to study medicine was when I had a severe asthmatic attack -: status asthmaticus , I knew I was dying and mum and dad were obviously helpless. Thank God for a doctor beside my house that God used that day , he administered some injections and withing minutes ,it was like a rope was taken off my neck .
I promised myself to know the mystery behinds this.
Thank God I'm a doctors today and on training to become a neurosurgeon , but like earlier stated, I might not be able to replicate the same help for a long time as the health sector in Nigeria is so frustrating. is the low pay we should talk about or hostile working environment!?
I'm one of those that are about to fly , I can't be working and jerking like "nothing else dey" and some people in the name of johesu will be sponsoring bills to be at per. it is better one goes to places where things work .
My advice to all my young colleagues out there , let go out to make money and come back years after to establish group private standard practices: our nurses will stay on the ward to give patients quality nursing cares they deserve, we need dispersers and not pharmacist ( the latter should be on the research field finding formulas to solve medical problem and allow pharmacist technicians to to their work), medical laboratory scientist will process samples in the lab because that is what I'm paying u for., ward assist will stay withing his or her limit .
A reasonable person will leave his or her comfort zone when the comfort zone is no more comfortable!
For reasons best known to him, my dad did his best to convince me to study medicine. I refused! I did something else. Today, 18 years later, I regret not studying medicine.

You should have asked the same question when you were hanging by a thread of air in 2002 now! I guess doctors in other African countries are making 10 times of what doctors are making in Nigeria.
Low wages and salaries are not the problem being faced by doctors alone in Nigeria, it cuts across all fields. Doctors are receiving 10 - 30 times of what some other workers receive, yet we buy from the same markets and pay for the same services.
I'm not hating here but I'm just telling you that doctors in Nigeria still have it better than most Nigerians. And if anyone regardless of his/her profession wants to leave and the opportunity presents itself, such person should leave. People including doctors leave Nigeria everyday yet, we still have plenty available.

The unfortunate mistake you guys make everyday....a real pity.

If only you know what's going on in Nigerian Medical Schools nowadays, you'll shake your head for the country's health sector.

There's a reason why Doctors matter cos there are 3 basic things veey crucial in every society: Food, Shelter and Health. Unfortunately Nigeria continues to deride and mock it's Health sector because it believes it has more than enough.

Do you know what happens to a man who wastes his resources because he believes he'll always have more than enough?

In 2011 when I graduated, I had no intention of leaving the country, I saw my colleague preparing for the US exams then during my Internship and I just took him for an overambitious fellow, now the guy rides the latest model of a Toyota Cary every year while I'm still busy cursing my leggedis Benz....He didn't even bother to serve or do NYSC, he he just gathered money from his internship and off he went.

Now most of this exams are even being written by 200 Level and 300 Level students, hence once they finish, they'll not even do Internship sef and also zoom off.

What does that make Nigeria? It makes us just like Arsenal Football Club where doctors are trained for other serious countries to scoop up. Medical Tourism will in the end continue.

Nevertheless I know you'll think I'm trying to get you scared to make you cower into treating us right.

Funny enough Nigeria has d worst doctor:patient yet you said we still have more around, despite the ones remaining about to leave.

No need jarey, you're right and I'm wrong.

That's their main demand. Watch the interview of the minister of health with channels TV and get a better insight. If nursing begins internship, Nigeria will be the only Country in the world running such devious model. It's a shame that we bend the truth in this Country.
Good idea. Not just doctors but other health workers too. They have something similar in Canada. If you want your student loan ($100,000-$500000) forgiven as a doctor or nurse, you would be required to move up North in remote locations and serve for a number of years. They are made to pay heavy penalty when they break the bond. I read some months ago that the UK is trying to implement a similar scheme to orevent their doctors from moving to Australia and New Zealand. This would eventually reduce the NHS's recruitment drive for overseas trained docs and nurses.

Funny thing is that alot of Canadian doctors and Nurses are running to the US too for a better pay.

Yes, we will surely get humanitarians doing your job. You think every doctor is as greedy as you? How much did you pay through medical school, can you compare this to what medical students are paying in US, UK or Canada? Ungrateful beings, go abroad na, why you telling us, just go!
Your humanitarian doctors are being paid higher than the doctors in their home countries, with full life insurance and other benefits. I am sure you will cooperate more with the 'humanitarian doctors' because by then they will be the one stating their terms and conditions of service

Two years ago, i was referred to LASUTH for an ailment. I met with a reg n after reading my history, prescribed a drug that was meant for only men knowing fully well that am a lady. So i had to ask him if he knows that the drug is contraindicated in women cos it causes infertility.

Then he had to use scope to tell me that he knows but he only prescribed it since am not getting married soon. Can you imagine Did he ask me? Thats how they kill patients.

It is high time they brought down their ego n work together with Pharmacists cos without them they can't work effectively.

Can you give me the name of the drug the Reg prescribed pls?

For them to focus on their work na wahala, instead na to they point out doctor fault to slander them in public na hin be their life purpose.

I agree with you on this... But if government is truly unable to pay like you claim, then they should not give in to JOHESU's demands. Doctors in this country are grossly underpaid! You can't be telling one party you don't have money and pampering the the other.
But almost all professionals are underpaid in Nigeria bruv. Lol

Do you know the starting wage (i.e recruit) for alot of policemen in developed countries is around 1.5million a month? Compare that to the starting wage of N10,000 per month that a recruit earns in naija, despite facing bullets from daredevil robbers.

My point is that let JOHESU demand for whatever they want, doctors should demand theirs too. At the end of the day, their salary would never be as high as that of a doc.

The concept of straight up debate with points has flown over the heads of most of you. Some people make attempts at having a discourse while others only know hate and insults.

It would be entertaining to have a discourse about this issue. Doctors and health workers. The way forward.

Not an argument but a debate with links to facts. That way it would be easier to make the nairaland populace see who's right or wrong.

I am looking at the arguments from a neutral point of view since I have both pharm and doc siblings, I am also married to a pharm. All practicing in Canada and the states except for the doc that is yet to get her license to practice, but i do have a close friend whose husband is a practicing doctor.

I am just here to correct any wrong information about the practice overseas people try to pass on here as facts. I am enjoying the points being passed by both side except for the insults.

Why should a highly educated professional whose skills are in demand around the world stay in a sh*thole whose political leadership is determined by masses of mo.rons only vote based on "stomach infrastructure" and "na my kinsman"?

A nation is not a collective suicide pact. If 99% of the country wants to keep living in sh*t because they prefer tribal sentiments and vote-buying to economically-sound, ideologically coherent political platforms, that's no reason for the 1% with sense and talent to stick around and suffer for no good reason. We only have one life each to live, so why waste should anyone waste theirs being stifled by corrupt, tribalistic id.iots?

This is actually what is happening to us. Despite all these hardships being encountered as a medical doctor I prefer to stay and help my people. The salary is not enough actually. Buying a good car, building a nice house, getting married are some of the challenges being faced by doctors. Friends and relatives are there constantly asking you for money which you too are lacking. Our profession need a great deal of sacrifice. As a doctor in Nigeria you have to be contented.

Yes being content with nothing would have been good sef, but I don't know if one can be content with debts, yes doctors are now heavily in debts and financial embarrassment, some don't even know where the nest meal is coming from sef no when the next paycheck will ring....
