Your car uses 0w20. If it's a 6 Cylinder, 5w20.

You need

4 bottles of http://weblink.carquest.com/acl/?mfgName=CQO&partNumber=CQ900 for N13,840

5,000 mile Oil filter http://weblink.carquest.com/acl/?mfgName=RFI&partNumber=R84145 N1,486.

OR for v6 you have two oil choices

Conventional http://weblink.carquest.com/acl/?mfgName=CQO&partNumber=CQ610-5QT N9,735

Synthetic http://weblink.carquest.com/acl/?mfgName=CQO&partNumber=CQ920-5QT N16,728

Deedee44 what dru23 is saying is please buy Mobil oil from him. It's kind of his thing to troll Nairaland trying to get people to buy mobile oil from him. Maybe if you do he'll settle down for a week or so. So, can you be Nairaland's hero and buy some oil from Dru whether or not it's the right weight for your car? grin

Thanks for this detailed info. It's 4 plug with over 170k mileage, bought 3 months ago (toks). Oil cap says 5w30 and that's what I've been using but it keeps drying up so gazzuzz recommended 5w40. As 0w20 is thinner than 5w30, don't you think it'll dry up faster?

Sorry I can't help u on that case... I had a similar experience. My 07 elantra was shorten oil . The previous oil before that was the local oil of the 5k ..basically the engine was abused... at the time my driver was topping oil every other week ..there was no sign of any leak and eventually the oil kept drying up
So finally I had 'ring' the engine, it cost me over 150k pictures below ...so if I was to guess the engine of your car needs either "ringing" or new engine.. Using thicker oil will not solve the problem it is a short term fix.. You might need to replace the engine eventually..

Omo that is a tough call ...if your engine is drying up oil something is definitely wrong somewhere ..my elantra engine was very sharp and running.. It was just drying up oil.. It got to a point the my driver was topping oil almost every other week... using thicker oil is putting a band-aid over the wound.. Better take it to a reliable mechanic....

My guess is better to get another engine.. It is just a matter time before this engine packs up ..And you don't want to be driving on a journey at nite ..And than the engine packs up ..safety first

Shut up and stop with the useless advice. A lot of things can make an engine consume oil. Not just damage... Stop giving useless advice on this forum anymore.

Go to a standard shop and check out the reasons for the dry up. Some oil brands do that ..... Nothing beats a physical inspection at a qualified shop. Not roadside like your consultant who can't differentiate between a 10 and 7 spanner

Is oil cap connected to car? If it's not, it may not be it's oil cap.
Gazzuzz and I always disagree about this. Bring it in to shop for them to take a look at it. Don't treat the symptom. Treat the disease.

All fluid specs below. You have three options in descending order of preference.

An oil change should never take more than 30 minutes or someone is messing up. When I get back, we will actually offer them done within a certain amount of time or it's free!
. Thanks for your response, I mean how many miles should one go b4 considering an oil and filter change? Or how many months with the SAE 5w30 Oil

If you have a car that tracks these things, it will tell you when it's ready for a change. Otherwise, the norm is 3 months/ 3,000 miles. Synthetics are usually 5,000 miles and then you have some extended that will allow you to go as long as 15,000 miles. Those seem to be popular here but really are not intended for your typical entry level cars.

....

Most likely u are not using your car for uber ..mineral oil might be OK.. But with mineral oil ,you will have to change your oil more frequently...
Now ,with SAE 5w30 oil ...oil pass oil ..I will highly advice you to use Mobil oil extended performance.. This is the best oil in the market. With good oil synthetic oil filter you are good to go.. With extended extended performance, comes extended protection. That should last you give or take a good 15k miles.. But I will do roughly 12k miles... but the key is to get right oil filters.. It might cost you around 3k ,but it is worth it ....
Now in mine case for example, am not in the country .. So I make sure my wife's car is protected with the extended performance.. Some women are not very good with cars.. Some will forget to do oil change and stuff like that. With extended performance you have peace of mind, knowing that the car your wife is driving is protected... go for the oil ..it was listed as one of the top oil of 2018... and please do some of your own findings.. Google about the oil ,do some research before buying any product... also coolant is very essential for your car ..get with the program.... Am not only a user of extended performance, but am also a seller too ...
PS: If your car is high milage, extended performance will be highly recommended ...excellent for high miles car..

Chelseafan1

To buttress her point, if you want to use Extended Performance engine oil, ensure you get a complimentary oil filter that can do 10,000 or 15,000 miles.

Don't use Extended Performance on a 3,000 miles oil filter, if you use a 3,000 miles oil filter to run Extended Performance 15,000 miles you are setting your car engine up for sludge.

The oil filter is as important as the engine oil.

If you get it right with the engine oil, also get it right with the OIL FILTER. If you get engine oil right and get oil filter wrong, you haven't done any good to your car. wink

Oil filter can as well be changed at every 3k-5k miles.. Leaving the oil till 15k

Personally I will never use any oil over 8k miles, except it is advised by engine manufacturer..i don't care what the oil company/marketers says . I will take the advice of engine manufacturer over the oil sellers grin grin

I wish people can actually do their own research.. Before asking for types of oil and coolant...... All people need to do is Google it . At least have an idea ,and they can always get a second opinion from the thread....
