Nigeria is not qualified to be called a country.
#30000 can't even feed a single mouth for month and the so called Governors, who were voted into power to run the affairs of the state and ensure the utilization of the vast resources available are saying they can't pay unless states start getting larger shares of Federal allocation.
Are they elected only to receive money from Abuja?
You see the problem with our brand of federalism?

Bro stop giving that crook dimwit attention. You see I want to tell u something, Some peoples love for cash over quality in this country is alarming. Example is this guy u quoted. They prefer to have N100M sitting in their account while the country is in chaos. People like them will get themselves a generator fuel the tank to the brim, They don't care if there is Power or not. Them plenty for this country. But people who prefer to have
just N1M In a saner clime and the economic is working, Their percentage is very low in nigeria. I've studied these people so much and I know how they reason.

U couldnt have said it better. Exactly. That is the point. I dont buy their idea. If Nigeria is such a glorious country, it wont be in this mess.

Thanks bro.

Some people like myself wouldn't mind pay taxes like they do in south Africa so that we can have the same standard of living , but how many Nigerians will agree to that .? undecided. Quality cost something. If you don't want to pay, then you will get mediocre service like we do here .simple !
nobody in naija want to pay the kind of tax South Africans pay, bcoz the leaders will divert, steal, eat the tax and use it to buy houses, cars and marry plenty wives.

I dont get it. Have u also checked the cost of living in USA?

Britain, Canada?

See, any good economy has high cost of living. Do u know why? It is becus they can afford it.

There is money to be made. My SA citizen who is an O level holder earns 18k rands per month. She can afford a decent life style. That is what we talk about.

Their entry level jobs paying over 100k rands per month. There is no decent economy without high cost of living. Do u wana know how much people pay to go to stadium to watch EPL matches?

But can they afford it? Yes. That is what matters not the cost.
S.A is my second home, i have never seen entry job for a black dude for 100k Rand, thats a blutant lie, average pay for doctors is around 500k rand oer year, Ministers earn 1m/ year, where did you get this ur stats from, biko stop misinforming people,

But sadly, it is hard to make 10k daily in Naija. That is the point.

The ease of making the money is the issue.

bro any one that can make equivalant of 30-50k in sa can make 10k here.
and if the person can make 10k here, he is better off here than in sa.

I may have misquoted you. it is a “get what you see situation” anyways. The cost of living is high in those countries because the standard and quality of life is high. Quality things don’t come cheap. You get the point now. There is no place with an expensive cost of living that won’t have something better to offer you. For example, you can’t compare the facilities you enjoy in Abuja to the one in yobe. This is it with Nigeria and the better countries.

The government failed in providing quality education, that's why a large portion of the population are stupid.

See Hausa-fulanis who have the largest population in Nigeria, the majority of them are illiterates. We truly cannot build a progressive nation with these people.

Nigerians will never understand the dynamics of things...

Firstly to start with South Africa has an efficient Tax Revenue System, the minimum Tax is 25% flat, coupled with 15% VAT.

Everybody has a Tax number and the Tax on your salary or payment is automatically removed from the source, meaning you can't escape it.

Imagine earning N100,000 per mount and the government Tax Revenue service automatically removes N25,000.

Can that be possible in Nigeria without rioting?....And everything you buying is subjected to 15% VAT. Last time I checked VAT in Nigeria is still a miserable 5%, tax on salaries is 1-2%, one of the lowest in the world. And, yet we still want to government to be able to pay salaries with good infrastructures. Also, fuel is N145/Litre in Nigeria and almost N450/Litre in South Africa.

Let's stop comparing apples with mangos.

Food for thought.

I understand your points, but make no mistakes. Even if Nigerian tax rates were as high as that of SA, nothing would still be achieved with our current crop of leaders.

What do these leaders have to show with the little tax they already collect? Faithfulness begins with litte.

Besides, nothing stops Nigerian govts from taxing the rich and middle class in order to make life better for the poor. Nigerian govt steals from both the rich and the poor without the poor getting anything in return.

Why not copy the way they hold their ministers and leaders accountable, starting with fixing our judiciary system to be independent from politics . That is how the Jonathans of this country could stand trial in front of the whole country like Zuma is currently doing . But we also have tribalism to deal with, Zulus are not causing any violence over his trial, could that be the case here . Nigeria matter tire me o.

You people always think worse of your own government. What makes you think the SA government is doing more than our government?

There is also one thing many of you don't understand, and that is selflessness as per patriotism.

South Africans have comparatively much smaller numbers of billionaires but each of these billionaires assist communities heavily. So South Africa is not just a product of the government but of the citizens as well.

In Nigeria, reverse is the case. Selfishness is the reason why there is high rate of looting. And tribalism is so rife that it even affects political party affiliations. How can a country move forward when opposition take sides with looters because they don't like the ruling party? Looters are supposed to be our common enemy but some people hate the president so much that they will take sides with looters and frustrate efforts to penalise the looters.

The South African citizenry is not built this way, at least not so evidently and brashly.

So, instead of blaming government, why can't you review your own contributions to the mess?

A country needs more than her leaders to grow. When you wish your country bad simply because you want the president to be discredited, how would the country move forward. Many Nigerians have become so blinded by sentiment that they would rather curse their country than contribute their quota.

No, the leaders of a country purely determine it's followers.
What will you say about a country like Nigeria where certain part posses leaders who prefer to keep their masses in stack illiteracy so that they can easily be manipulated for election advantage?

Same thing that made millions of a section of Nigerians vote a tribal and religious bigot into power and rejected the person who wanted to bring their masses out of the stack illiteracy in which their leaders had left them over the decades through almajiri schools.

I don't know of south Africa....
But any hardworking person can make 100 dollars a day in most developed country...
Especially if the job is bank or contract basis...
In fact such amount is close to minimum wage for a day's job....
30k a day in naija is stretching your imagination too far for an average nigerian worker...
That's 900k a month....
I can bet, less than 0.01 percent of naija workers earn such amount....
Most state commisioners don't even earn that except u in the good book of your governor.....

Besides, inflation is eating away whatever meagre wage the nigerian worker is earning...
18k minimum wage is rubbish in today's naija economy and 30k per month isn't better in any way.....
Even for one person, without any social cushion or govt welfare support...
That money can never take u to middle of the month anywhere in naija....
That's why abject poverty is very much pronounced in the last couple of years.....

Whatever the high cost of living in western country, 100 dollars a day is ok for u to manage yourself without turning to liability or nuisance while awaiting something better...

There's something called dignity in labour...
There's a reason that term was coined...

That's the point ....
Hope u get it now....

Exactly. When I tell people that tribalism is the main cause of Nigeria's problems, people think it's a lie.

Many Nigerians will support an evil doer just because he is from their tribe.
Are we going to blame the masses when same politicians use ethno-religious sentiments to win elections?

Nigeria may never know progress if not restructured.
We need to live in administrative divisions where every tribe/group of similar tribes are responsible for their own progress and welfare.
