that guy is right on point. I know someone who continues getting scholarships and degrees just because he doesnt want to leave. indians and syrians owns all the resturants.

Newly immigrated syrians to canada will surpass nigerians in the next 5 years.
Its because they are more business and entrepreneurial oriented than Nigerians. Nigerians are too focused on certificates.

you see why i said we compete with other locals for their jobs instead of creating businesses which will employ them and help us move up the ladder in 5-10 years

The sad reality

The system AND our parents (i mean this in general sense, not our individual parents) lied to Us, and we are paying dearly for it undecided

That is largely to blame for the craze for certificates among Nigerians undecided

i didnt come here to bash people but to ask questions. Since you callf me an hypocrite, i been abroad many times after i finish what i came to do i packed my load and move back home and i dont regret it. My idea of life is that i can make it in nigeria.

I believe in people doing what works for them....like you said "i been abroad many times after i finish what i came to do i packed my load and move back home and i dont regret it."

... so leave us if we decide to also go there many times and return when we finish what we went there to do just like you did.

I still don't think most Nigerian parents who emphasized the need for most of their children to earn those degrees meant any harm.

In fact, earning whatever the degree is especially in courses that can give one back-up job securiries in case the businesses they already have is facing some bumby moments is the best thing that can happen to anyone who is wise.

they were short sighted, blind AND Ignorant

Nigeria has NEVER been a real industrial/productive economy

Back in the day, they get a degree; then get a bureaucratic/civil servant / other non productive work and they were paid high salaries

RUBBISH

While our mates in Asia were concentrating on value addition and technical/skills acquisition and transfer

That built a culture of laziness and advanced foolishness among the pple

that us WHY till today, the dream of most of the unfortunate youths in that $hithole republic is to get good grades BY ALL MEANS, then settle for bureaucratic work that does not add value.

That's why they are all eyeing nnpc, dpr, etc

This above, is the sad tale of a FINISHED COUNTRY

i think you missed the point of my question. I was asking why nigerians think they can only make it abroad abroad.

So if you have millions of youths thinking like that it means they wont build their country thus thinking abroad is the only way. What if there dreams are not realised, what next?

is it not funny, that in Nigeria, you can have 1 popular music teacher, 2-4 music video popular music video director, 20 brain surgeons, maybe 3 small blood testing lab maybe for the whole of maybe lets say kwara state, 5 hospitals treating cancers in the whole of Nigeria, maybe less than 6000 programmers, this is just a clue that the market is a gold mine, nothing stopping Nigerians from making real cash, if you have the foresight
you will see the opportunity.

The problem i see about many Nigerians is complain and complain then the problem of those coming back is that they think because they came back with a degree from abroad, then they should be given the jobs on a platter of gold without proving him or herself., they end up getting disappointed and then move back.

Yes another reason why people don’t come back home is because a lot Nigerians back home are ignorant and don’t want to move forward. I don’t think it’s only the government keeping Nigeria back but also the people.

sometimes, it is not because they are ignorant, they dont know about these opportunities, someone have to teach them, that is why if you are an expert in stuff like maybe special effect make up artist, you can make big cash in nigeria because of very few competitors in your trade. whereas if you are in america or in any developed country, you have lot of competitors and you have to struggle to survive.

I got you quite right but we all seem to forget that the birth rate in Nigeria is quite high so even with the number of people moving abroad, Nigeria still hasn't lost much (yes, skilled hands you may say but remember, they are making way for the unemployed youth left behind to fill in the gap and acquire same skill and if a self employed personnel leaves for a better quality of life for his kids, he paves way for another to see the vision in what he left behind and make it thrive).

A number of people who left Nigeria will also return, maybe when their Visa's expire or when they see a need in the country which they can apply their skills to. So let those who choose to remain in Nigeria do their best in their own little way to make their little corner work and resemble the Nigeria they all want it to be and let those who choose to travel make the best use of it doing legal jobs, thus erasing the bad image some people overseas have of Nigeria.

All fingers are not equal, all man must not think the same way. A quick look at the comments in this thread will let you know we still have people who do not wish to travel but want to make it here, so let them focus on that and not be bothered about who leaves or not.

the fact is this Many skillful Nigerians that traveled abroad ended up not prasticing their field, only a few do=loss of skills
many dont return
How are they making way for unemployed youth, for an unemployed youth to get to a position of a professional, it takes years.
all man cant think the same, but all man must build his own country, if he wants respect. only black people are not doing it
china is getting great because of her skillful ones are coming back to china to teach others.

Nice thoughts you have here...so please go ahead and make Nigeria great in your own way...the fact that people are leaving does not stop those remaining from making it great.

get depressed or face the reality of building their country.

Any Nigeria claiming to earn more than $30,000 doing menial job in Canada is one big fat liar! Canada has a personal income tax of almost 18% meaning you are left with $24,000 to spend for the year if you make $30,000. Living on $19,000 annually is extreme poverty as that is the poverty rate for a single person in most provinces in Canada. You will need government assistance

Lol, Nigerians can lie, how can one save 120k cad making $16 per hour?

Nigerians dont believe in their country, ask many foreigners that come to make money, they will tell you that Nigerians just love to complain

you will see the indian doctor that is poor in india becoming so rich in nigeria because he imported simple medical devices that is not available in nigeria or knows how to do simple procedure faster and cheaper.

the young Chinese, coming to Nigeria and take very big risk in business

the reality is Nigerians are not risk takers they just shout they are the smartest but cant translate that smartness into something meaningful.
