You got it all wrong. I read a book from Obasanjo back in the day about the coup and it was a case of Ironsi being miscalculating and thinking the military was not politically involved. His mistake was not having those soldiers executed for their coup. He was like Jonathan in a way trusting and naive about things going on around him. My brother belewa and sardauna was executed not by Ibos but by soldiers who think they want to put things right. after all the late Kaduna nzeogwu is from old bendel, likewise others. But that's not the cause of the war because they were brought to justice by aguiyi ironsi. But y did gowon fail to brought ty danjuma to justice

You've been reading Danjuma chapter 1 verse 1. Stop believing lies. Aguiyi-Ironsi was cited for bravery in Congo among other places.

Were the likes of TY Danjuma who plotted the counter coup even imprisoned? They lived,died and some still lives freemen. Most of the 1966 coup plotters died in prison or during the civil war.

Ironsi promised that they would be pardoned and form part of his government as conditions for Nzeogwu's surrender of Northern Nigeria, he even had the air force as it was only in Northern Nigeria, he saved Nigeria from a civil war by surrendering because he would have won.

And the other side will say Ironsi was executed by soldiers who thought they were getting justice for past crimes. The fact is that those who plotted the first coup were not swiftly tried and executed for murdering the prime minister.
