They have started with their estimates... Retail investors may not get this one until they have taken it to 180-200 grin grin grin

https://businessday.ng/technology/article/updated-offers-fly-in-from-investors-ahead-of-mtns-listing/

MTN would be listing about 20.35 billion shares, at possibly an N80-90/share price range, according to the consensus analysts’ estimates.

That would value the stock at around 5 times Earnings Before Interest Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA). That’s almost half the frontier average, suggesting that at N90 per share, MTN will be undervalued compared to telecommunication companies in frontier markets.
Analysts at Cordros Capital believe the stock is worth NGN194 per share, implying a 116-143 percent upside on the proposed listing price.

On this basis, it is quite understandable that investors are falling over one another to get a hold on MTNN’s stock.

I cannot understand while all this analysts are so fixated on EBITDA.

What I want to know is PAT, eps and p.e.
With that I will be able to do my own assessment of the right value for mtn.

To know that I sold the stock last week after putting it on offer for almost a year is painful.

I had a high expectation of the company when I bought it some years back because what the company does falls in to my area of competence.

Along the line, I felt the management derailed from the company core business mandate and I was really put off. Then and then, I decided to sell with no buyer for more than two years.

I stopped going through their annual reports again until last week when monkey hunter call my attention to it.
They will be good going forward if the management think straight and are sincere.

Oga CHibuking, maybe you should keep your info to yourself since you wouldnt like people to jump in and then, they'll still be accused of not allowing you to buy again. I believe the reason you were mentioning it is to create awareness in the first place and consider views from every angle.
Dont know why you think that some people dont have the info already and even much more than you have self.
I've not read any single comment discouraging anyone from buying but rather cautioning. What if it's not what we expect it to be, just what if?
I no wan read plenty grammar say anyone discourage you here o. tongue
Please do me a favour, always jump and pass whenever you see my post and you don't like it.

If they take it to N180, they should better be ready to support it there themselves with their money.

They'll be expecting the retail investor to buy from them at N180. Dem no serious.

This stock is setting itself up to trade below listing price. A good number of retail investors today are experienced. They are battle tested from the 2007 era. They wouldn't bulge until it goes below listing price.

Afterall, how many stock a trading above their listing/IPO/PO prices?

Hello stock traders, I am a novice trader, I trade mostly Forex. Though I hear the stock market is equally a good place to invest in for better returns, I know next to nothing about the market.

So I need professional advice on the recently announced MTN shares listed at N90 per share. What are your thoughts? Is it a good price? Would you advice I buy some of it? What broker would you recommend I trade this stock with?

Oga... Nobody is discouraging people to buy all we are saying is exercise caution. Even me I already took a loan to buy more DF and some may go into MTN but not above 100 Naira.

So my approach is as much as I want MTN, I won't buy above N100, and if I can't get it due to the rush... I will wait until their year end result comes in. Then I will re-evaluate.
I have some questions I'll love to pass across to u sir, can I send u a mail?

Hahahaha.

Cordros Capital sha.

They are involved in this listing and have now sent out their analysts to damage people's pockets.

Na waa o.

I'm a client of theirs and they sent me their usual sweet analysis by email this morning, with MTN as the topic of course.

Only for me to realize they are probably one of the book runners.

Are you sure about this?
I am talking about net profit and not gross profit.
If PAT is 453b then eps will be 453/20 which gives us 85.6.

If that is true, mtn will be selling at a ridiculous low price at N90 as p.e will be close to 1 . impossible cool

Don't mind him.

Q1 2019 PAT was N48.4b.

Try and extrapolate this to 4 quarters. And it could come lower possibly.

I don't do IPO. I wish people can learn from times before 2008 crash.

But wetin concern me. No be my money!

@ Rebakah, the figure of 453B u quoted as PAT for YE 2018 is incorrect !!
I have copies of MTN Nigeria results including that of Q1 2019.
When analysing their financial print, its important to focus and work solely with that of MTN Nigeria, as that is the only subset thats been listed.

For FY 2018, the group made a PAT of approx 145.7B... up by near 80% from the previous year(2017) guidance.
...with Attributable earnings(EPS) rising by approx same margin(79.7%) from just above N199 in 2017 to N357.87 in 2018.
Revenue also came in good amidst a cut down across the groups cost line, safe for the core of the company's roaming cost and DNOP.
I have been impressed by the drop in cost related to VAS, finance cost and transmission cost.
From where am standing, there seems to be far more pros ahead of cons with their result.
Adjusting for risk @ zero growth, the expected listing price seems a juicy bargain, but then, this is Nigeria... and this is the NSE.
But then again, we are talking about MTN !!

Time will not permit me to give an in-depth analysis of their financial print.

Cheers.

That was what starcomms used. They were reeling out losses(LAT and not PAT) and they kept using EBITDA because this was positive. All men went to their tents when EBITDA started showing negative.

People will make money from MTN listing tomorrow...
Just make sure you have a bench mark for you buy, mine is set at N100, but with the buzz I am seeing then may be N100-120 I will buy.

But I am sure people, MTN will make most people very rich.
