The team looks balanced defensively. However, I really worry about us creating chances.

The coach seem to have stick to his 3-5-2 Formation.....which require massive defending and counter attack..
with the pace of Oshoala and the Wing back we should be able to benefits from it

I think taking only 5 defenders is risky! Dennerby should have named an additional defender as adequate cover in case of a serious injury.

I think we'll be just fine. Nwabuoku isnt going to play as a midfielder, she will play as a defender as part of the back 3.

Christy Ohaeriaku, Josephine Chukwunonye, Cecilia Nku, Ini Umotong were dropped....

Josephine Chukwunonye is my Surprise exclusion here, probably because of injury

The coach knows best, Chukwunonye is a really solid defender who can go forward with confidence. In fact against Cameroun, she was one of those that solidly held her own. I am over surprised.

However on the other hand, I see the coach really prefer younger players, though I do not think she is one of the really old ones. Frankly, I will take her over Faith Michaels (Ikidi) who is older or Amarachi Okoronkwo who should be about the same age give or take 1 or 2 years on either side

Chukwunonye Over Faith Ikidi is a NO NO NO
This is Faith Ikidi 4th FIFA Women's World Cup she is experienced, versatile, although she's a bit sloppy but a quality defender who read the game better and inform her team mate when going forward.....Pitea IF of Sweden should tell you more about her..by the way she will be playing in her favorite position (between Ohale and Onome

Ikidi, Chukwunonye and Ohale all play in the Swedish league. Only Ikidi has been consistent in the team of the week. She is really strong at her position. Hopefully she and Oshoala join camp this weekend.

2019 FIFA WWC Meet Nigeria’s Super Falcons

23 players are on national assignment for Nigeria in FRANCE.
Their objective is to ensure that the team gets into the final after seven previous attempts. For some, it is a mission impossible but for others it is achieveable. Omotubu Sunday-Ramsey; (Schemerkhiz) takes a look at these girls and their pedigree who open their campaign against Norway 8th June 2019.

Tochukwu Oluehi
Jersey no1
Date of birth: 02.05.1987 (32years)
Height: 168
Weight: 64 kg
Club: Rivers Angels
FIFA Women's World Cup Appearances: (2007, 2011)

Tochukwu Oluehi: Over time Oluehi has proved that she is competent to be Superfalcons no. She is one of Africa’s finest safe hands and this was demonstrated at the last African Women’s Cup of Nations where she conceded just one goal from open play in five games, She is a penalty specialist as she saves penalties with utmost acuity. Oluehi is an experienced goalkeeper who has been around on the national and international scene and has won acccolades. Tochukwu was instrumental to the victory of the Falcons in Ghana last year as her commanding performance was good for the eyes. Luckily for her, the Nigerian goalie enjoys the confidence of Coach Thomas Dennerby. As fars as Dennerby is concerned, Tochukwu is the best. The beautiful goalkeeper has international clubside experience as she has played for Bobruichanka of Belarus and Medkila IL of Norway.

Strengths — Good in penalty, calm, experienced, good reflexes and can organize her defence very well, good anticipatory instincts and commands the respect of players

Weaknesses —fumbles when not expected.

Chiamaka Cynthia Nnadozie
Jersey no(16)
Date of birth: 18-12-2000 (18yrs)
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Rivers Angels
Height: 180cm
FIFA World Cup Appearances (1st )

Nnadozie is the youngest and the tallest goalkeeper in the Superfalcons. Chiamaka the “cat” as some call her, has become a confident goalkeeper and can be trusted to stand between the woodwork for the Falcons. The former Falconets goalkeeper shone like the stars at the last FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup where she made eye-catching saves and showed reflexes that endeared her to the world. It was not a surprise that she was awarded the “dare to shine” player of the match against Haiti where she did her best to stop Dumonay and Modesir from scoring, even from a world class freekick from Dumonay. Nnadozie is loved by Dennerby; that is why she had, in some games, been on the starting lineup.
However her critics claim that Nnadozie is still not ripe for the big stage. Many still feel that Nnadozie is still too young for the big stage after the Friendly game against France in 2018.

Strengths —Good height, sharp reflexes, good in the air, firm grip, agile, Confident, Needs encouragement

Weaknesses —She has inexperience working against her.

Alaba Jonathan
Jersey no 21
Born: 01-06-1992 (26yrs)
Position: Goalkeeper
Height: 167
Club: Bayelsa Queens
FIFA World Cup Appearance: (2011)

Alaba Jonathan: “Another Jonathan saves Nigeria”. That was the headline of a major daily in Nigeria in 2010 when the Falconets of Nigeria made history as the first African women’s team to qualify for the semifinal of any FIFA organised tournament. Alaba Jonathan made history for saving the penalty of USA captain, Christine Nairn that enabled the Falconets qualify for the semi final. The Bayelsa Queens keeper was the Superfalcons first choice goalkeeper at the 2016 AWCON in Cameroun, She has the experience needed and can face any opposition. She was collosal for the Falcons in 2016. Today those heroic saves that earned her the accolades of Nigerian and the Camerounian fans haven't faded away.

Strengths — Very Confident, Good in the air, good in One on one, ability to make breath taking saves, experience, excellent reflexes.

Weaknesses — Occasionally loses her calm when under pressure.

Based on height and reflexes, I’ll go with Nnadozie as my starting goalie. The only real edge Oluehi has over Nnadozie is her length of service to the national team

I will pick Tochukwu and Alaba ahead of Nnadozie, the no1 advantage she has is her height...
But Nnadozie lack the experience Tochukwu has to offer between the stick... She still have age ahead of her...

The team showed exactly why Dennerby was right to focus on team compactness. They were just chasing shadows in that game. Whats the point in useless attacking football when you are open at the back.

Anyways this thread is about the beautiful Falcons. This is probably Oluehi's last world cup. Nnadozie looking to move to a foreign club will be a good thing for us. I'm sure Dennerby can recommend her to his coach friends. She needs international exposure. Onyiye Okeke was a promising goalie, but it seems she's dropped form. She will be challenging Nnadozie in coming years.

I think this horrible Nigerian U20 team will perform better than the Nigerian Falcons. In fact, I have no intention to watch any of their matches.

'to perform' is subjective. A team can perform like Barca and lose to a compact team like Villareal. For me, I am quite pleased that we now have a team that is at least taking a particular shape. The usual chaotic attack attack of Nigerian football has only won us 1 world cup match in almost 12 years.
For me, let this team be compact and attack with devastating purpose. We can then start to win 1-0 with 40% possession. Thats better than losing 3-1 with 65% possession. Moreso, these ladies can turn to any style if allowed to.

Faith Ikidi Michael
Jersey no14
Position: Defender
Date of birth: 28-02-1987 (32yrs)
Height: 166
Club: pitea IF, Sweden
FIFA World Cup apperances: (2003, 2007, 2011)

Faith is one of Nigeria’s most trusted and dependable defenders as far as the women’s game is concerned. Her experience of playing in the Damallsvenskan will be helpful for the Nigerian side. Faith Michael is a veteran who started as a left back for the Falcons but later became a right back. She made her Falcons debut in 2003. The versatile 32-year old defender has always been relevant for clubside. She is also a goalscoring defender. It is not suprising that was awarded the best defender of the Swedish Damallsvenskan in 2015. She played for Linkoping and has played for Pitea IF till date.

Strengths: Confidence, Experience, Good game reader, strong, a good header, Faith enjoys playing in the central defence but can also play in other positions when the occasion demands. Standing at 5.8, she has a nice way of clipping her opponents. U.S.A big forward Abby Wambach can attest to the defender’s credential. This was after both teams met at the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China. Enjoys a fantastic rapport with colleagues and has the ability to use both legs effectively.

Weakness/es: Her recovery rate for a defender has been called into questioning in some occasions.

Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Schemerkhiz: 8:12am On May 28, 2019
Onome Ebi
Jersey no5
Date of birth: 05.08.1983 (36yrs)
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 66 kg
Position: Defender
Club: Henan Huishang FC, China
FIFA World Cup Appearances: (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015)

Onome Ebi who is the Mother of the team being the oldest player in the Squad, The 36-year old, playing in her fifth World Cup, has aged like fine wine with her impressive strength and steely determination. She may have lost a yard of pace but she makes up for it with her supreme game-reading ability and anticipation. The Henan Huishang defender always knows when to step up from the defence to shut down attackers. While some players’ ability depreciate when they get to 30, Ebi’s ability seems to be improve in her 30’s. She was a defence warlord for the Falcons in Ghana 2018; no wonder she was nicknamed the “defence minister” by some friends and analysts. She has played for Minsk of Belarus, Sunnana Sk of Sweden, Djugarden IF of Sweden, Pitea of Sweden and now plays for Henang Huishang of China. Onome is a leader and mentor to the young ones. However, this could be the last World Cup for the 36 years old ex-Delta Queens player who has paid her dues.

Strengths — Inspirational, Experience, Confidence, Timely interception, Good in the air, Fearless, long kicks

Weakness/es —lacks speed, poor reaction.

Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by Schemerkhiz: 8:29am On May 28, 2019

Position: Defender
Height: 174 cm.
Club: Växjö DFF, Sweden.
FIFA World Cup Appearances: (2011, 2015)

Ohale has been nicknamed “Woman Mountain” by former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu. This was after an impressive outing at the women junior championship in Germany which she repeated at the Africa Women Championship in 2010 and 2011 FIFA WWCUP. The player who is blessed with good height has been a suitable replacement for ex-captain Kikelomo Ajayi. Osinachi Ohale is as Strong as steel, agile like a soldier, The Växjö of Sweden defender has never got her foot off the accelerator as she has continued to turn out impressive and match-winning displays for the Falcons. She is flexible and can fit in with any defender who is paired with her. She has been in the Falcons since 2010 and has been part of the success stories of the team.

Strengths — She's a team player, Very disciplined defender, Fearless, experience, committment is great, good speed, tight marker and good aerial abilities.
