It was not only FBN that had that run in price at that period of time.
Some stocks with worse fundamental even did better in term of price appreciation.

For now , FBN is still lagging behind.
Among the first tier banks, they have the worse fundamental. And why would anyone buy now when we have better options if not because of the name and sentiment. This however does not mean FBN cannot return a higher percentage in term of capital appreciation.

Bottom line, we must all be able to define what we are to buy...we could be fundamentally, technically, sentimentally, spiritually driven...

Didn't they take a hit on seawolf loan of over 150m USD (N99B) a few years ago. I fact, rumours had it that ogas chop clean mouth on that one

You said it all
Anybody buying fbnh Plc is doing so coz of deep sentiment. The elephant is sick, not just the bearish moment, the bank is only hidding under the bearish climate.
The bank is full of making empty promises. Investors has been mislead by this bank. 4 yrs ago, they promised investors that the loans in the oil industry would soon be recovered. Today... LOAN HAS BEEN WRITTEN OFF. NO MORE EFFORT FOR THE RECOVERY. NO PUNISHMENT. BUSINESS SENT WRONG.
It started with one of the most coded scammer in the hx of corporate frauds in Nigeria.... Mr. Bisi Onasanya.
He dashed investors money to his family and friends in the Nigerian Oil industry. The man has retired codedly into his mult billion Naira empire in banana Island where he is enjoying the fruits of our investment. Not the fruits of his labour but ours.
Today Billions of investors funds has been written off.
First bank unilaterally declared billions of naira loans TOXIC....
We might not have heard the truth about fbnh finances.
We pray that the elephant will not collapse soon.
If there is no bearish climate, the true picture of fbnh plc would have been exposed.

On the part in bold, u may not be far from the truth !!

I did mention in my analysis of the coys 2018 YE financial print that over 41% of key loans could not be accounted for in that result.
Again, the bank(FBNH) was the only 1st tier entity to get a forbearance from the CBN on the implementation of IFRS 9 guideline, yet its qualifying capital benchmarked against its total loan portfolio(CAR) has been CONTRACTING. ...YE 2018, Q1, 2019 and H1, 2019 all witnessed series of contractions.

Fresh findings;

Looking @ their H1, 2019 report last night, I noticed that the slight decline in NPL(to circa 14.5%) was mainly because the loan to Atlantic Energy(a key exposure) has been written off(probably effective from prior yr). ...that write off alone was over 126B. ...which was why there was a reduction in gross loan.
However, net loan grew by near 44B(QoQ), perhaps from the pressure of trying to meet up with the CBN requirement on LDR. ...and since prior net loan position hasn't delivered any noticeable return, pressure from LDR may likely persist in the short to mid term.

2 things are @ play here;

1) Prior provisioning(huge as it seems) hasn't come off with any impactful recoveries. As a result, higher loan portfolio have majorly brought about higher risk assets.

2) The bank has not managed to tweak their investment drive to help aid the shortfall of their unhealthy loan portfolio.

This 2 can only happen because management have either been playing pranks with the banks capital or are grossly INEFFICIENT !!

FBNH should be 'approached' with CAUTION !!
...AsY and AsQ has underperformed and @ the moment, there is no clear direction to growth trajectory.

Enough said.

I still can’t understand the sense in the fight between yayira and mcy56. Like @currentprice said having such unstoppable e-fight on a faceless forum like this and without knowing each other from Adam is really amusing.

I think you ladies are just infantile and really need to grow up. Even when we offend our creator he forgives us. So I don’t know why the duo find it very difficult to bury the hatchet.

Let peace reign. We are here to only make money that’s all!

Please check what i wrote again,i never said FBN is a buy now,(i hardly make recommendations anyways),all i do is just drawn attention to stocks which i feel needs to be closely watched (HAVING A STOCK ON A WATCHLIST IS QUITE DIFFERENT FROM A RECOMMENDATION.)A stock can always be on a watchlist for as long as possible until when one feels that the criteria on his or her checklist has been fully/partially fulfilled in order to start taking partial positions

I dont even know which "stock " i should pick now, either Yariya or Mcy56.Both of them seem to be on full bid . grin grin

But on a lighter mood, life is too short to be engaging yourselves in this kind of acts. Both of you have been great contributors to this thread, although with different views and approaches towards stocks (i personally have benefitted from both parties)

We cant all have the same views or strategy, while i have observed,a lot of value investors here, there are also, growth investors, momentum investors, speculators, and even spiritual investors here. The bottom line is ensure your strategy is making money for you and never force anyone to adopt your strategy.

Stock investment should be fun and more like playing a game, what we try to do here is just trying to outsmart ourselves, through different strategies, patience, greed ,fear, and learning from mistakes.

PLEASE LET'S LEARN TO TOLERATE EACHOTHER.

Access & UBA result is making me unhappy with holding my Fidelity.

Access looking like future GTB in retail banking
UBA looking like future Zenith in Commercial banking

If UBA can come lower, would add more units and wait for mark down to enter Access!

Onasanya did not work alone, FBN started having issues when the current chairman took over.
I am surprised at the level of damage done by Onasanya (who is a pastor in one of the biggest Pentecostal churches in Nigeria) together with his cohort did to FBN.

A company Atlantic Energy got as much as $250 million loan which went bad, unfortunately when an average small business needs a loan of N10 million from FBN there is a very high probability that the loan with not be approved...

FBN refused to embark on an aggressive debt recovery drive, because most of the loans that went bad are insiders related. The loans were not intended to be paid back when they were granted.

FBN had a very bad deal under Onasanya. Even in 2000 when FBN lost over $100 in the Investors international limited deal during the failed privatization of NITEL things were not as bad as this. That was in an era when Zenith Bank, GTB cannot single handedly finance a $100 million deal. The shareholders funds of Zenith Bank and GTB was not even up to that.

This shows that it is not now that FBN have been gambling with depositors and shareholders funds.

The worst part is that the bank did not sell the so called toxic loans to AMCON, since the bank is so lacadicical concerning the recovery of the loans.

FBN does not have core investors as we have in Zenith Bank, Access Bank, GTB, therefore no one to caution the reckless behaviour of the banks management.

The CEO of Access Bank has substantial holdings in the bank, therefore he will go after the banks debtors. Unlike FBN that is more or less like government property, everyone is talking his or her own share of the national cake.

No bank in Nigeria can survive what happened to FBN in the last 5 to 6 years. The have written off hundreds of billions of naira in the last 3 years and their is no light at the end of the tunnel, who does that?

Tomorrow somebody will tell having key man in a business in Nigeria is a disadvantage ........ O boy just run a common store and put an Afar to run d store and u will see Enron film trick right b4 ur eyes

1. You don't have to attend every argument you are invited to.

2. Because somebody is full of drama does not mean you have to stay and witness the performance.

Both quotes above have served me well in this life. Wish more people on this thread will adopt that attitude.
