@op I know someone who is SS at the age of 34 years old.

Sickle cell is not a death sentence. It's not even a terminal illness. They can live their normal lives and be great. Keep the baby and IF he/she turns out to be SS, you can set a good management routine like Vitamins, once in a while hydration etc. They're good ones out there, even though expensive. I know sicklers who are 40, 55 and older. My sister is 22 and living her best life, crises once in a while but she's doing better than most "normal" people.

I would advice that you both go for counseling at the appropriate centre nearest to you(specialist hospitals that has maternal and child or fetal specialist). She will probably be asked to do a prenatal test(cvs or amniocentesis, I prefer amniocentesis ) at the appropriate gestation age. If the fetus is ss, you’ll be counseled on options at your disposal, I would lean more towards terminating the pregnancy. If the expectant baby is AS/AA, you’re lucky.
As per what the future holds for the relationship, you decide. If you’re really boxed up, there are several options you can explore.

Please do not let this get you and your wife to be down. Everything is a blessing. I am AS and my husband is AS too...both have two kids now...both AS. You will need to send your wife to be to HighCross clinic at lekki, they will take out some fluid from the placenta of the fetus to check the genotype of the baby...if the baby is SS or not, you guys will know...love na money. A life is now involved, I advise you two get married.....
Technology has evolved a lot now.... you can now check the genotype of the foetus in utero, it's expensive but you'll have to go through it instead of aborting the foetus without affirming the genotype

We still have stem cell transplant, an SS child can be changed to AA or AS after birth
You two can get married but it's going to be expensive bcoz you'll need to check the genotype of the child everytime she conceives

If u have a car just drive her through Port Harcourt -Aba road if nothing happens then comeback for another advise.
