Seven Reasons Why Christians Should Stop Taking Alcohol

A lot of Christians rationalize their insatiable appetite for the intake of alcohol, backing it up with different Bible verses. The biblicality of the subject of the intake of alcohol has been debated over the years.

Nevertheless, by His Spirit, I have come up with biblical reasons why alcohol should be avoided by all Christians.

Sex Addiction And How To Be Totally Free From It

Addressing The Misconceptions Surrounding The Intake Of Alcohol

• Timothy Was Advised To Drink Wine
1 Tim.5.23 – Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

The Apostle Paul advised Timothy to drink little wine because of his illness. Many Christians have been addicted to alcohol by acting on this verse. We need to be properly guided.

Most importantly, at that time there was nothing like drugs like we have them today. Although, there were doctors then, because Luke was one of them.

Drugs had not been produced to cure illnesses then. Paul would have told him to seek medical attention.

Besides, this particular verse applies to Timothy alone. He was a man who used to have frequent illnesses and digestion issues. Stop using this verse to justify your filthy lifestyle. Be truthful to yourself.

Timothy was asked to take little wine because of his health but you drink excessively for fun. Yet, you claim God is not against alcohol.

• Even Jesus Turned Water To Wine

John 2:9
[9]When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine…

At Cana in Galilee, Jesus performed His first miracle which involved changing of water to wine. Many believers have used this story to justify their insatiable appetite for the consumption of alcohol.

Only those who have not acquainted themselves with the Culture of the Jews would find this story confuscating.

Early rabbis recognized wine’s unique qualities, thus incorporated it into Jewish ceremonies, such as Passover Seder, Puri etc.

For example, in a typical Nigerian ceremony, Jollof rice must be there. Normally, the Jews used Wine to celebrate feasts or ceremonies.

At that point, what they needed at the wedding was Wine. And Jesus to proved to them that He had the ability to supply them with what we needed.

You will discover that Jesus never commanded us to keep drinking alcohol after he had turned water to wine.

Avoid It
The fact that Jesus gave them wine doesn’t mean believers should start drinking. Wine can get you drunk. So, there is no point drinking it excessively. God once gave the Isrealites a King — Saul, they asked for. Yet, he wasn’t pleased with them because of what they requested from Him.

Don’t turn yourself to a drunkard. The only way not to be an addict is to steer clear of beer. That’s why I won’t advocate that you start drinking responsibly.

However, there are good wine. Such wine can make your skin glow and you will look sharp. It depends! I believe the Wisdom of God will guide you.

Six Reasons Why Betting Is Not Good For You As A Christian

7 Reasons Why Every Christian Must Stop Drinking Alcohol;
(1) Insensitivity

Alcohol
Proverbs 23:35
[35]They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; THEY HAVE BEATEN ME, AND I FELT IT NOT…

Someone once said that, “There is no difference between a mad man and a drunkard.” If a man gets drunk, he can behave exactly like a mad person.

Drunkards lose their insanity, thereby making them to act like an insane being. When you are drunk, there is nothing you can’t do. Because at that time you don’t know what you are doing.

We’ve heard of drunkards who beat up their spouse whenever they get back home. In terms of hangover, alcohol will give you the best.

Lot got drunk and he didn’t know when he had sex with his children (Gen 19:33). Alcohol produces insensitivity. Many drink it to a stupor and talk gibberish. God gave you brain, don’t impair its ability. Avoid alcoholic drinks in order to stay sensitive.

How To Erase Borrowing Mentaliity

(2) Stubbornness

Deuteronomy 21:20
[20]And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is STUBBORN and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a DRUNKARD.

Louts and miscreants are often known as people who are addicted to alcohol. It has been proven that a lot of recalcitrants are drunkards.

Nabal, a mean and surly man was also known as a drunkard (I Sam 25:3,36). The more you drink, the more you become stubborn. That is why evildoers cannot steer clear of alcohol. Because alcohol will make your eyes become red ( Prov 23:31).

More so, this will strenghten you to do evil. And it will enable you to carry out atrocities. If you want to maintain a flexible and tender heart. I’d implore you to avoid alcohol.

(3) Mockery

Proverbs 20:1
[1]WINE IS A MOCKER, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Dear friend, you need to stop drinking alcohol in order to avoid mockery. People tend to mock drunkards who have hangovers. I have seen people who posted the videos of drunkards acting irresponsibly under the influence of wine.

See, don’t make yourself an object of scorn. You have been dignified because Christ died for you. Don’t let your children be mocked because of your ignominious lifestyle.

Drunkards often vomit and fall down incessantly while walking. They often say unthinkable things that demean them. Stop drinking alcohol as a Christian.

7 Bible Verses For An Alcoholiic To Study

(4) To Avoid Attack

1 Kings 16:9-10
[9]And his servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza steward of his house in Tirzah.

[10]And Zimri went in and smote him, and killed him, in the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his stead.

Believers are to guard themselves against all forms of attacks from the devil. However, alcohol makes one more vulnerable to the devil.

Elah, a king, was assassinated in his drunkenness (1 Kings 16:9-10). Also, Ben hadad and other 32 kings were attacked while they got drunk.

Hence, if you don’t want to make yourself vulnerable to devil’s attack. Steer clear of alcoholic drinks. Don’t get drunk.

(5) It’s Not Permitted For God’s Anointed

Judges 13:4
[4]Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:

Monoah’s wife — the mother of Samson was commanded not to drink any strong drink or wine. It was because Samson was going to be God’s servant.

Again, the Priests in the old testament were not permitted to drink strong drink. When talking about the qualifications of a Bishop. A Bishop is not supposed to be someone who is given to wine (1 Tim 2:3).

Every time God talks about His anointed, He talks about consecration and sepration from evil habits. You have also been anointed by God because you carry His presence. Avoid alcohol. Seprate yourself. Let there be a discrepancy between you and sinners.

What A Good Christian Should Never Do

(6) Health Issues

Proverbs 23:32
[32]At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

Medically, alcohol can cause Slurred speech, drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach, headaches, Breathing difficulties, distorted vision and hearing.

If you don’t want to quit because of mockery. You should quit because of your health. If you want to live in good health, don’t drink substance that will affect your health.

(7) No Kingdom Of God For Drunkards

Galatians 5:21
[21]Envyings, murders, DRUNKENNESS, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things SHALL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Drunkards will not be able to inherit the kingdom of God. Think of this; why would you allow the enjoyment of this world to deprive you of heaven?

This is basic reason why you need avoid every form of drunkenness. You may not like this, but it’s the truth. All through the Scriptures, you will find God condemning drunkenness. Quit now!

Even if you preach from genesis to revelation, who will change will eventually change and who don't want to change will not change.
Try your best and leave the rest for God.

Hmm....There is nothing sinful about alcohol as it is not the issue but having an addiction for it as alcoholism depreciates the human person.

God created palm trees from where palm wine is being tapped from, fruits such as grapes, bananas and other agro products are being fermented to produce some brands of alcoholic drink. It is like telling Italians who take their wine seriously, that they would go to hell for what is part of their identity.

Nigerian writers have a funny way of making blanket statements to suit their writing style, at the end of the day, the write up turns out illogical.
How the writer has conveniently equated alcohol intake to being drunk still bemuses me.
Its more like saying people shouldn't take salt because in excess, it causes hypertension , shouldn't take sugar cos in excess, it can cause diabetes or shouldnt make money because it's the root of all evil.
How logical.

Show us the bible verse that says "thou shall not drink wine"

Just because people abuse alcohol doesn't mean people shouldn't drink.

Gluttony is one if the seven deadly sins, does this mean you shouldn't eat ? undecided. You puritans should swerve abeg

Rubbish!

Why does the book od Deuteronomy 14 say we should use our tithe to buy strong drink aka alcohol? I believe the key thing in life is moderation and God has given us the discernment to know right from wrong but for you to quite a section of the bible to support your view isn't right.

You cannot use your own understanding to generalize!

Though am not advising anyone to drink alcohol but stop mixing your personal opinion as scripture, Jesus can not give u something evil just because u need it, God is always righteous and does not do anything to please evil desires of man, people like u make it difficult for people to see holy life as life of love,
