@ Mandem12... Reading the first 2 pages get me irritated by the closed minded comment of most Nairalanders. This is 21st century and it's high time we dismiss any tradition and religious beliefs that keeps us moving in circles. The pretty fact is that strong humans have break from old religion and tradition belief some of which were killing of twins, abolishing slave trade, marrying outside your tribe, stopping female mutation and more. Breaking from bonds of old fagot belief is the best way to help humanity. If not you will just tossed according to their wishes.

Some folks here has phobia of quoting Bible or Quran verses quicker and most doesn't relate. You can't tell me God allow Adam & Eve and their children to practice incent and that God allow Abram to marry his step sisters Serah yet you claim God allowed it because the population of the world was small but He disliked it now. Where do we place your God is the same, today and forever. That just shows all stories in your Holybook don't add up and were mere inventions of the Iron age men that have no clue of the world they lived in creating stories more of fables. A critical thinking of the Genesis story shows every human on earth practise incent because it stated from the root of Adam it just depends on the degree of incent they indulged in.

@op my advise for you is this; If your wife is willing to stand by you go for check up see if you are compatible blood group and genotype. In as much as she's isn't your immediate blood sister and step sister you are fine bro. The only challenge is how well you are financially buoyant. Sometimes challenges might arise so, don't never think is because of the consequences you were told would happen. It's natural.

Make the right decision now and break free from cultural and mental slavery. Let me give you this story of a close friend...
As at 10 years old her parent were informed from village that they have to bring her for rituals and her hair will be cut off. Her father has taken the challenges not to yield to their tradition but the mother insist for fear of consequences. The village people threaten her parent with death which makes the mother scared not to lose her daughter but the father stood his ground. Few month then she fell sick and every suspicious points to the threat of the village people. Village people still persist they must bring her for ritual as its their tradition. But with good medical care she became healthy and continue schooling with us. More than 10 years now she wasn't taken for any ritual and she's alive. Her immediate sister never go for any ritual and they are living fine. So speak to your parent to rewire their thoughts and educate them on some traditional heritage that isn't necessary because if you didn't break it another will.

hausas marry their cousin... Sarah was related to Abraham... Its just the culture of igbos... I was once in his position, at the end of the day I thought about the consequences on our children was it really worth it.. Cutting them of their roots just for our selfish reasons... How they'll be treated by our ummunna and all, at the end of the day it wasn't worth it.. You don't know why that culture was set that way...

Just like the Hausas marry a girl of 6years and it’s their tradition, it’s an abomination in Igbo land. So it’s better to avoid these things so our Children won’t suffer what they don’t know.

Yours is a different case altogether. How can you marry your step sister? Are you seriously fine? Do you know you share one parent? Whatever you're doing with her should cease immediately because it's not healthy.

To put things into perspective, I will like to make a quick clarification to help us better understand the position of the OP. In the south east, After the local government, we have Towns/Communities which we mostly and quite wrongly refer to as villages.

Each town/communities are broken down into villages/hamlets. Each village/hamlet is made up of clans also known as Umunna (Descendants of same father) about 4 -5 generation back. Please also note that villages in most cases can also trace their decent to a single progenitor, likewise towns. However, each town and village also have migrants from various places that have become indigenes of the town.

Now back to the topic. Villages dont allow people who are related to get married because it is a taboo and considered incest, I think up to the 5th generation. Some towns have a tradition of cutting family ties after the 5th generation.

My point is this, when OP referred to "same village" did he mean same town, village or Clan?

Let me state here, people from same community can get married but must not be related to one another by blood. I have seen a lot. However if both parents and grand parents from both sides (paternal and maternal) are from the same community, you thread carefully so you dont get involved with anyone tied to you by blood through your forebears.

For me, I dont think I will want to get married to a blood relative or start cutting family ties. I hope this will help put things into perspective.

I'm a young man of 25. I met this very beautiful girl, aged 23 now, we've dated 4 years now. She's so humble, the love grew out of nowhere. She does everything a woman would do for a man and I do everything a man will do for a woman.

Good morning, let me tell you the truth, if indeed that you are related to her via blood and you guys have been having sex: it is abomination. bear in mind that marriage is like a gum that we chew which that would not taste the same from the beginning to the end; love is not the only reason when marriage is to be contracted, Pls be a man and secure your future by thinking twice now before it will be too late.

Yujin:

This case isn't that of same kith n kin. In majority of Igboland, a community (town) is made up of aggregate villages having same ancestral origin and therefore, bear a singular name to unite them. While one may marry from another village within the same town, girls from his own village are out of bound for him. I've heard of this from a couple of my friends but doesn't exist in my own town. Everyone knows you can't marry from you kith and kin(kindred=umunna). I can marry from my village but surely not from my kindred in my village. There are other kindreds in my village. But some Igbo communities have it that you can't marry from your village as everyone is seeing as a kindred.
Now to OP, it seems your community is one of such. Since she's from your village, why not ask her to consult her family and ask them if she's permitted to marry someone she loves from the same village. I expect her to return with the same answer. If that's the case, then they may not support the marriage even if you're willing to damn all consequences leaving you with only one option- eloping. If you're bouyant enough and is willing to risk all for this, then go on with it. As far as I see it, the divergence is so long now to warrant any biological problems. As long as she's not from your umunna, you're good to go. Eventually, you'll be a reference point to open up the way for others in your town. It is our unwillingness to challenge some traditions in Africa that has held us down. We're not evolving at all. You're certainly doing nothing wrong here despite what anyone wants to say. People are just scared not to ruffle the feathers of tradition. I believe that if you have some enlightened persons in your family, they'll support you. As long as she's not from your umunna and not maternally related to you(your mother and grandmother's family) you're good to go.

OP didn't explain it very well but i'm fairy certain he meant his umunna.

in igboland you can marry from your town/village but not from your kindred.

if you dismiss religious and traditional beliefs, you might as well dismiss scientific ones too. No need to blood group compatibility test too. Let's thread carefully, certain religious and traditional doctrines are sacrilegious and like wise science. So let's think things through before we arrive at a conclusion. We never can say, cuz we havent experienced these things ourselves.

I'm talking about village not kindred. Some villages have different families who migrated from other villages and towns so they are not necessarily related by blood.

Lol! This is funny. That they are from the same village doesn’t mean they won’t marry. They are bloodily related or there’s a big reason why they won’t get married. In my own place, I can marry from my village or even my community gan gan as long as we do not have any blood relation. Coming from the same Village isn’t the only reason why they won’t marry, let the OP spill everything his father and the elders told him and you will have a different view.

Tell me.. Who were the inhabitants of Nod since God only created Adam and Eve?

Is like na you create them na.. Go and read jor! Study to show yourself approved

Don't be coming here to tell me to read Gen 1-10 that i have been reading since 3decades now and no much facts as regards this subject matter.

Let me say much but illustrate the life of Cain summarily.

Cain killed his brother Abel.
Cain was chased out of the garden of Eden.

The charge God gave to anyone who will kill Cain answers ur question. Genesis 4:15.
And the Lord said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.
This means there were people who could have killed Cain after being chased out. The same happened to his great great grandson Lamech who also killed someone too. Please read Bible and just get ur knowledge opened not because u want to challenge ur pastor, but because u need not to be confused either.
Thanks
The Family of Cain
Genesis 4"16-18.
16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son—Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech.

The gods laugh whenever we complicate our lives, little candle lights like us, shinning today and gone by Moro. Can't we see that this life is too short to worry about regrets or live for others.

There are no rules in life, do what thou whilst is all of the law.

Do what you must, do what makes your soul happy.. Las Las you'd live and go like the rest of them. Why live in regrets of the road not travelled, enter the road ,make thy own mistakes and enjoy the little.life we have. It's yours bro and there are no rules. Seeking advice here won't even help you, everyone has their own opinion, you'd only get worse than you came. God created male and female in Genesis: 1:27
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

God created man outside of garden of Eden and TOOK MAN: Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.

Adam was special because he was to take care of the garden of Eden where trees of knowledge and life were planted. Now after only him was taken inside the garden, God saw he was to have a helper which he didnt pick from outside be tired be made out of Adam's rib. Bible is a mystery. Countries like Ethiopia was at the beginning and rivers linking to Eden's garden were mentioned.

Adam was a special case for the following reasonssadaccording to me o and not God or Bible scholars. And don't say am interpreting the bible by my knowledge because Saint Paul would say"I say and not the spirit)

1:To name things created
2: To establish marriage
3: To show of the picture of paradise prototype
4: To account to us the fall of man and how woman contributed to the fall.
5: To declare the fall of man and the rise of man through Christ. Note: Jesus was also declared in the Genesis, where God declared to the serpent that the SEED OF THIS WOMAN WILL BRUISE U.

FYI.. Nod' (נוד) is the Hebrew root of the verb 'to wander' (לנדוד). The implication is that Cain, being in disgrace, was sent to wander aimlessly.
He wandered east of Eden.

Attend Bible school and learn how to read the bible.. No b ordinary storybook...

From your own deductions, one can say you mean God created other men and women.
Why didn't He take a woman alongside and had to create Eve from Adam if male and female he created them all as you mean it.

Romans 5:12
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.

The above verse refers to the Adamic sin.. Psalms 51:5 - Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Job 15:14-16 - What [is] man, that he should be clean? and [he which is] born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

1cor 15:45 ..So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.

The last Adam is Jesus Christ, saviour of mankind and He descended from Adam.

The rest men and women you say God created, it means their offsprings are not guilty of the adamic sin na.. It means the bible is wrong saying " For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God''

My take.
You are being manipulated!

She doesn't love you.

From your own words let me tell you why.

Have you ever heard the phrase if you love someone, you set them free, if they are yours they will come back, if not they won't come back.

Clingy girls have psychological issues. Why would a lady demand a blood oat? She wants to tie you down.

Don't be in a haste, slow down for at least a year and observe her again, you will be surprised at her change of attitude.

Get smart!

She won't die if you leave her! Its all part of the manipulation. She was very much alive before you guys met and she will still be alive when you guys go your separate ways!

Run from girls that are too clingy. They are very manipulative.

This guy thinks differently. He insinuates God created other men and women.. So you might be from them.. It means we all don't share a common ancestor..

Hehehe. My guy! !! I hail! Make I no waste time explaining things to you. Please you can go and marry as same

Do you know why Saudi Arabia and UAE has the highest rate of slowpoke?? They marry each other to help maintain the flow of wealth . I’m telling to first hand cos I’m a teacher here in one of the mental schools

But 19th century Britons married their relatives ( as close as first cousins). Queen Elizabeth and her husband are even second cousins. Why are their children not slowpokes today?
