Loco, funny as it may sound, that's what is going on now, the way I see it.
The expatriates are selling in panic and will sell at any low amount, they will come back and buy when everything stabilizes.
More reason we need to look for fund and key in when the prices are so low. Someone said this is the planting season, he/she may not be far from the truth....but people should hold cash tightly for now like my bosses advised.

They are selling because we have no ammunitions to defend our market than devaluation of currency. And they will come back to buy cheaply when Naira is devalue (God forbid as some people always say...). It is written all over the wall...

Planting season ko. What if after planting, Fulani herdsmen visits your farm with their army of cows?

This crash is really bringing out those that claim big boys. The NSE should be among your stream of income and not your sole stream of income.Oga Emma your candid advice is highly needed now.Is good to be street wise or you become mugu to another man and he will use to achieve his own target. If I don't sell my shares come rain come thunder..Then I lose nothing as long as the company doesn't close shop

Holding cash now is not the best hedging strategy against devaluation.
Hold assets that are likely to go up in value if there is devaluation.

Example of such asset is stock. Imagine if you liquidate your position in stock today and the next day before market open, there is an annoucement that naira have been devalued. What become the fate of the cash you are holding?

Holding cash is good but not when currency devaluation is looming.

What we are experiencing now in the crude oil market is teaching of reason. OPEC want to educate those non - OPEC oil producing countries that always take advantage of OPEC cut, that oil can possibly go far below their budget benchmark.

If not because of drop in price of stocks price, I will even like the crude to visit $5, it will help correct some political problems in Nigeria in the near future. Restructuring the country will be so easy with crude oil price at $5, true federalism will come very quickly.

Implication, if the crude oil price falling continues, with this new minimum wage, soon many states will go bankrupt and will not be able to pay their civil servants. Crime rate will increase.

Let the will of God be done, his is just and everything he does is right.

Patiently waiting for my Zenith bank dividend on 16th, at least crude oil price will not affect it.

Be careful of what you wish for....
Low oil price will affect everybody in the country.
The federal government might go bankrupt this time around.

Also...

At current prices, a few stocks can do a conservative 50% on reversal. Do you see the currency being devalued by 50%?

If you know...

You are right sir, a high dose of common sense is actually needed in times like this.Having ones portfolio 100% cash might not be too wise in a time like this, although having a substantial cash as part of your portfolio is wisdom. Unfortunately most people dont understand that the word "cash is king" does not necessarily means "portfolio = 100% cash" .In some situations "cash could be thrash".

Timing the market is just a waste of time- No one can actually tell when a reversal would happen, especially in a world with so much uncertainties,

Bear market is not just a period of calamity but also a period of opportunity for those that are prepared.

I have never seen so much FEAR (pessimism)on the exchanges in recent time. So i need to be GREEDY. But the question is when ?. Since i cant time the market (reversal),i would just keep buying value(bargains) on a scale down.

These are just my personal thought, please stick to what works for you.

Everyone with his own strategy.
There are however some factors we need to consider when playing this game.
It has been established that FPI play a very significant role in the direction the market goes.
They have at best been on the sideline for a while, among other reasons being that they expect the naira to be devalued.

Holding dollar assets at this point in time make a lot of sense to me:
-the probability that NSE will continue to go lower is high
-and if the naira is eventually devalued, converting back to naira will give one opportunity to buy cheaper stocks with more money.
-and if oil price stabilizes and there is no devaluation, one has nothing to loose.

I agree, no one can accurately pick the bottom but we can use all the information available to us to maximize our gains.
