Americans are some of the most ignorant people on earth. Contrary to your assertion, they have a very limited knowledge of "global affairs". A lot of them don't even know if Africa is a country or continent. Anything outside the US is alien to them, yet you claim they have more knowledge.

The simple answer is that these people study hard, they read wide, they don't limit their knowledge to their field alone that's why they are always ahead.
For example I'm a microbiologist by profession but I can tell you the latest trends in the I.T world and in other unrelated field because I read wide.
